GENEVA - Albert Hofmann, the father of the mind-altering drug LSD whose medical discovery inspired — and arguably corrupted — millions in the 1960s hippie generation, has died. He was 102.
Hofmann died Tuesday at his home in Burg im Leimental, said Doris Stuker, a municipal clerk in the village near Basel where Hofmann moved following his retirement in 1971.
For decades after LSD was banned in the late 1960s, Hofmann defended his invention.
"I produced the substance as a medicine. ... It's not my fault if people abused it," he once said. more

Vegas Baby Attire
O.K., I just came back from visiting my freshman college student daught in North Carolina. Her first words to me were "Dad, get with the program, your embarrassing me dude". So, I'm not hip on the 'whats hip' thing.
So, I have my 'long white tube socks with red stripes on top', a 'tank top t-shirt', a 'beer belly', and 'cut off short-short blue jeans' (that shows my plumber crack). Is grey hair in style now?

RAC'man the new Survival Guy Show!
After reading some current posts, and watching RAC'ster showing us how to properly eat white snow, (but suggests that we eat the yellow snow for taste), I would feel much safer under his command if 'Big Brother.' takes over.
I see two potential new TV shows coming out of this blog. 'Survival Guy' beaten out by 'RAC'man, the Survival Guy', and 'High School Reunion' beaten out by 'Dean's Circle goes Vagas Baby' in the ratings!

Perfect Spam
My Yahoo email account usually does a pretty good job of filtering out spam from my inbox. However, this morning an obvious piece of junk mail made it through the filters. This message was unusual in that instead of a link to their web site, it directed you to a Google search string. Knowing the link would be safe my curiosity got the best of me and I clicked it. Sure enough, it took me to a Google search page with a single returned entry - someone selling fake Rolex watches. Brilliant I thought! Now if only we could get these people to put that ingenuity to good use.

Car accident...and perspective
I was in a car accident on Monday..exiting the bay bridge in SF, when a lady in a Jeep slammed into me from behind..pushing me into the car in front of me...good news is I walked out of my car alive....
lucky because 1. I was in my Jag..(super heavy car..protected me from being crushed) 2. wearing my seatbelt (they said it saved my life..my ribs aren't happy, but they're alive so they can stop complaining) 3. had a good 2 car lengths between me and car in front (also prevented the aforementioned "smashed like a bug" syndrome.
Off work/travel for a couple of weeks....while docs figure our how to repair me...waiting to find out if I'm super lucky once again and just have a bruised back, or if I have a slipped disc, or a cracked tailbone..so far..lots of drugs and sleep.....lots of pain, lots of drugs...
Last week, same time I was in Hawaii for work...walking on the beach every morning before work..feeling pretty grand about life!
To put it in perspective....still feeling pretty grand about life! great family, good friends, fun job,
alive and walking, albeit slowly...will definately be dancing at the reunion..god continues to bless me.
cheers everyone! Kelley

Donny and Marie Osmond sign for new show on Vegas strip
Hey Larson’s, how about hookin’ us up with some tickets to the Donny and Marie show? Being cousins and all I thought you guys could get us some front row seats. Backstage passes would be cool too if you can swing it. Thanks.
Food Fight
It appears that panic has set in. My wife just returned from the grocery store with reports there was no milk and only 2 bags of rice on the shelves. She said people were buying large plastic containers in which to store their food supplies. A woman in line told her people were practically fighting at Costco's the day before. Of course it doesn't help when the Wall Street Journal fans the flames by recommending we "Load Up the Pantry."
So I've decided not to join in the panic. Rather than stock up on food, I'm going to stock up on bullets. They say a well armed man can find something to eat anytime day or night. ;-)

Thoughts on Consciousness
I've spent a great deal of time over the past few years trying to wrap my mind around the subject of human consciousness. Over time I've come up with some of my own ideas as to the inner workings of the mind. I recently found similar ideas beautifully expressed on the blog of Anthony Peake, author of "Is There Life After Death."
If we consider, for a moment, Niels Bohr's 'Copenhagen Interpretation' of Quantum Mechanics which states that all energy (including basic particles) exist as a wave, and only on observation by a conscious entity does this wave "collapse" and become a particle - Electrons, Light, Atoms etc all behave in this way - then I suggest that Consciousness also behaves this way. If Collective Consciousness is indeed a wave then I think we all, as conscious beings, collapse that wave and create particles of Subjective Consciousness, which is, in effect, ourselves; our experiences and our empirical life. In essence, that we are all one Consciousness experiencing itself Subjectively.

Sunset of the Week
Sign of the Times
A new Wal-Mart greeter just couldn't seem to get to work on time.
Every day he was a few minutes late but, because he was a good worker, rather than fire him outright, the boss called him for a talk.
"Dick, I like your work ethic, and you're a smart guy, but your tardiness is becoming habitual."
"Yeah, I know, boss. I'm working on it," said Dick.
"That's good. I hope you succeed. But I must admit: I'm surprised. You're retired from the military. What did they say when you came in late?"
"They said, 'Good morning, General'!"

Hafa Adai And a Hello everyone from Chris in Guam hope to see everyone soon in Las Vegas this summer I was just reading the blog about Red Rice in Vegas there is a couple of places that do serve the Island quisine from Guam I'll keep you all informed about it. If anyone reads the PDN on the internet you'll see that Guam has gone through some drastic changesin the past 25 thru 18 years. hope too see everyone soon.!!!!!!!!!!!
Have We Talked About Spam???
I was talking to Chris Franquez the other morning and he was having Spam for breakfast. I had not thought about Spam in years!!! I used to like it just on a sandwich with lots of mustard.
According to Wikipedia, in the United States, the residents of Hawaii and Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands consume the most Spam per capita. On average, each person on Guam consumes 16 tins of Spam each year. Guam, Hawaii, and Saipan, have the only McDonald's restaurants that feature Spam on the menu and Burger King now offers Spam on their breakfast menu as well.
Gas Prices
So...reading the PDN website I see where Mobil raised the price of regular to $4.20 a gallon. Just out of curiosity what's it running in your neck of the woods?

Global food crisis looms as Asia's rice bowl empties and world price soars
THE crisis over rice showed no signs of easing yesterday as the price of the world's benchmark jumped 10 per cent in just one week, fanning fears that millions across Asia will struggle to afford their staple food.
In a clear sign of the strain on output after major exporters began to curb exports earlier this year, a tender from the Philippines, the world's top importer, attracted offers to sell only about two-thirds of the half a million tonnes it sought.
In Bangkok, Thai 100 per cent B grade white rice, considered the world's benchmark, hit $950 (£482) per tonne, three times its price at the start of 2007.
"There's been a popular misconception that the world can produce as much food as it likes. Well, it obviously can't. And Asia can't feed itself at the moment," Gerry Lawson, the chairman of Sunrice, a major Australian rice producer, said. continue...

STAMPEDE!!!
I was reminded today of something my youngest son said when he was about 4. Even at this age he was already an expert on the ways of the wild. He had seen enough Animal Planet to know what was going on when a herd of wildebeest suddenly takes off running in a panic. It was from this vast store of knowledge that he warned us one day to watch out because his toy animals were about to "STAND IN PEE!!!"
In the Family Way
Consuelo, a Mexican maid announced to her boss, Mrs. Blanco, that she was quitting.
When Mrs. Blanco asked why, Consuelo replied, "I'm in the family way."
Mrs. Blanco was totally surprised and shocked, and asked who the father could be.
"Your husband and your son," replied Consuelo.
Mortified, Mrs. Blanco demanded an explanation.
"Well," Consuelo explained, "I go to the library to clean it and your husband say, 'You are in the way'. I go to the living room to clean and your son say 'You are in my way'. So I'm in the family way and I can't do the work you hired me to do so I quit."

PayPal set up for Help Fund
Just an update on the Help fund.
I have been set up with PayPal, so if you would rather use it rather than a check, send me an email and I will send a "request for payment". I can only do this if you want to contribute though PayPal. I will still be happy to accept checks for this fund, it is up to the giver as to how it will be done. I just want it to be easiest for you.
I am also going to set up an accountability person to this. I have sent back through email a receipt of payment, but I would feel better if a second person knew how much was in the fund, and who contributed. It is an anonymous fund, and no one is obligated to give. I will comment on this when I know who the accountability person will be.
I do want to thank you who have given to help someone get to the reunion. I know money is tight, and we can't all make it. The more the merrier.
Any questions email or call me. I will be happy to help with or answer anything.

Bamboo Forest
I remember that there was a 'Bamboo Forest' on Guam. I thing, ...(but could be very wrong), that the forest was at the bottom of the hill that lead to the Nimitz Restaurant? I was told by many respectable adults at the time that; "if you ever entered the 'Bamboo Forest' you may never come back out...alive" (because you lost all sense of orientation).
Escape to Texas
So a bunch of polygamist decide to escape the long arm of the law in Utah by moving to Texas? What a bunch of dumb assess. Had they asked I would have told them there are only two religions allowed in Texas; Catholic for those born south of the border and Southern Baptist for the rest. Remember the Alamo Waco.
I guess my point is that Texas is the last place you want to go to start a cult. I lived there for 15 years and can tell you it is a very strange place. Texans have a pride like none other. If you don't hold their point of view its best you either shut the hell up or move to Austin. Still, you gotta love it!

Hafa from the bayous
Hafa browns! or as we say down on the bayou>> Comment Ca VA (como se va) Neg!
Dave Larson tracked me down which is no biggie because I am in the same place he left me the last time I saw him (1986??). We chased a greyhound from Lafayette to New Orleans that night and never caught it.
Anyway my memories of Deans Circle are somewhat hazy but then again so were much of my teen years. I remember a few names, some I can put faces to and others I can't. Maybe it is best that way.
For all of you going "who the #%& is this guy" my history with Dean's Circle was probably late 74 through most of 75. I would have been a sophmore and junior with my brother Avery about 7th and 8th and my sister Lili about a sophmore at UOG. I guess we were at Deans Circle about a year having moved from Deddedo or as we called it "Dread De Do". Man we (that means you too!) had it made at DC. We then moved to Hospital Point (is that Tamuning?) in a great house on the cliff overlooking the Hilton but there was no gang to run with. We returned stateside half way through my senior year. A lot of memories jammed into a very brief stay (only in Guam for 18 months)!
Been back in my old hometown in South Louisiana (it is where Tobasco is made) for abut 15 years >>working in the oil patch in Lafayette. Still diving and fishing >> but in the Gulf of Mexico which is about 15 miles from the house. You need to be 50 miles offshore to find the kind of water we had at the "ROCK"! We have one manmade "beach" nearby but the water looks like chocolate milk most of the time. However the fishing is awesome! Specks and reds nearshore, amberjack, red snapper and cobia "at the rigs" and even tuna, marlin & sword fish in deep water!
Never made it back to Guam although want to BAD!!!!! This has definitely been a "blast from the past"!

Calling all Cajuns... King Munson is in the Bayou
I have located another member of the circle crew, which some of you may or may not remember. The Munson family moved into Joanna's house when the Sparks moved out. King had a brother named Avery and also a couple of sisters whose names have escaped my memory. He now resides down on the bayou in New Iberia Louisiana. King will be signing on soon and said to say hi to Juliet and Benny, and looks forward to meeting you all here on the blog.

Once again, here Ric, your island
We've been joined by another Chris
My friend Chris Franquez has joined the blog going by the name "tophersguam". He was in my class at GW, graduating in 75. We actually went out together for awhile in our junior year so he spent some time at our house and around the Circle. He's retired from the Air Force and living on Guam so he'll be another set of eyes and ears to keep us up on the happenings around the island. He recently found me on Classmates.com and we've had a great time catching up on the past 33 years. His oldest son lives in Vegas so he might join us at our reunion this summer.Welcome Chris to the blog...it's so great to have you here!!!

Ric my bro, this is for you
This is the Island that Ricstermiesterman spoke of. It is the thumbtack in the middle of, oh, whats the word, oh yes NOWHERE!!!
This is it as a close up. Ricky, I hate to tell you this, but it is not an Island as you would think of. We in the knotical world call the an atoll. It is a coral reef sourounding a lagoon. But for you, here is the island you spoke of. If no one finds RAC'S new home, he can move here. ha, na, we like him too much, but he can move to the other island.
RAC'S NEW HOME, YOU FUNNY GUY
BLOG TO BE SHUT DOWN BY HOST
I received an email from Google today informing me they will be shutting down our blog. They stated some recently posted nudity violated our user agreement. We have been given 48 hours to archive any data we would like saved. If there are pictures you want to keep I suggest you download them now.
It's been an amazing ride and I thank you all for your contributions. To say I am saddened by this doesn't begin to describe how I feel. Maybe if we can find another home we can start back up in the future; we’ll just have to see. Farewell my friends.
P.S. You can read the original Google email HERE
