Not that's the spirit Joanna.

Unlike Rush Limbaugh who's response is "I hope he fails." Who's being unpatriotic now? To wish for the failure of our nation's leader and therefor the failure of our country just to prove he holds a "better" political ideology. Rush is starting to sound an awfull lot like a terrorist to me.

OK - so what sort of changes are you hoping for?

rac said...

I can't speak for Joanna but for me a little peace and prosperity might be a good place to start.

Sean said...

sure thing, who doesn't want to prosper in peace. How does a president go about granting peace and prosperity. What is it that makes you confident Obama will deliver this?

Through leadership, strong leadership. A great leader has the ability to bring people together to work towards a common cause - to get the entire machine running in the same direction. To do that takes a certain charisma, a natural quality that is central to the very core of the person. I believe Obama possesses this quality. Of course, there will always be dissenters - the Rush Limbaugh's who's biases prevent them from taking an objective approach - those who put their ego above the good of the whole. But then that's what makes America great.

P.S. I might add that some openness and honesty might also make for a nice change.

Robert - Sure it it good to have strong leadership and get everyone moving in the same direction towards a common goal. But, I ask you, in what direction are we heading. You know have your charismatic leader, we are united now (ahem) and he has the political clout to make changes.

What are these changes to be?

I'm no Rush Limbaugh, but I can tell you I'm not united just because BO proclaims it so. He didn't win by any landslide and he claims that he will listen to other opinions, but I'm hearing a lot of "shut up" from the left. All the arguing is over. Time to stop being childish. blah blah. This is a two party system. We have different philosophies on how America must be. Bi-partisan does not mean "everyone on the right side has no say".

Where is the opennes and honesty you are referring to? GW was the most throroughly questions and investigated candidate I can recall. There are still many, many questions unanswered - or unasked - about BO. He has never been open and honest as far as I can see. All we know about him is what he has written, or said, or investigated about himself.

I implore you to use the same microscope for your leaders on the left as you use for leaders on the right. There simply is no comparison in these standards.

So, again, what changes do you hope for from BO?

Well, Obama is kinda like us and raised on an Island in Hawaii so I guess that makes him an "Island boy". so maybe he will take an interest in Pacific Island issues. One can only Hope. I am back in Hamburg for the next two weeks and it has been cold. Why did I ever leave the Pacific? This sucks.

mat said...

For Guam the change will be to give them all checks because they're so opressed by uncle Sam. The evil americanos saved their daggans from the Japanese then told the Japanese they didn't have to pay for their crimes so the U.S. must pay them. I mean it is a tropical island there could be one helluva agricultural industry on Guam but aye adai it's so hot they better just take it easy and sit under the shade and drink Bud and smoke bud that the buy wif the checks. Please oh Please gif them their checks! Lana life is hard.

mat said...

Hahahahaha!Yup! Time for change Mr. President!

mat said...

Oh wait, we don't change, we want cold hard CASH!hahahaha.

RAC, heres the deal, you are 100percent correct that we should hope that our president does a good job. However let me just say that you are taking what Rush said out of context. It is widely believed by conservatives that President Obama is a socialist and plans to socialize our country. In that respect I also hope he fails. I like my life the way it is. It aint going so great right now but it's because of decisions and choices that I have made. Get it? I know what I need to do improve things in my life and I have the freedom to do so. I also have free will. I want to keep it that way. President Obama said only Government can fix the mess we're in. Huh? It's about taking responsibility for your actions! Yes, it's un American to wish for your leaders to fail but it's not unAmerican to hope they don't destroy that which we as a nation have fought so hard for to achieve!

Sean said...

well said, Mat. I want our country to succeed. I want our president to keep our country safe. I do not want BO to "succeed" with the vision he's outlined of socialization, massive growth of the federal government and an even more slanted progressive tax system.

Joanna said...

Robert,it's a damn shame that others don't see the big picture. They seem to hope for failure like the president before...more of the same.Obama is not only for the U.S. but,the world in recession.Heck, there will always be people denying that he won by a landslide...the ignorant...so sorry to say. The DC gang has turned into a pour old me,pour me another drink to drown my sorrows.I say accept what has transpired unless you yourself want to run. He has a very ,very hard road ahead of him. No one really wants his job but,if you think differently, than throw your own hat in!!! Not all DC folk mind you!!!

Obviously a president cannot just arbitrarily grant peace and prosperity. Policy and legislation engendered by a president can and will however lead to its likely presence or absence.

I see and hear these references to socialism. "That's socialism" or "he's a socialist". It's almost like some of us are expecting Obama to stand with clenched fist proclaiming Peace Land and Bread!
I hate to be the one to say this but we're already there.
When a trillion taxpayer dollars are used to bail out for profit companies that is socialism in its purest and most insidious form.
When private companies are bought out with taxpayer funds, this is socializing the company.
Both of these are recent examples of how capitalism was not allowed to run its natural course due to government intervention. That is socialism.
Now we can debate as to whether this intervention was the proper course or not until the cows come home. One thing that is not in question is that our government chose to reallocate wealth for what it saw as the greater good. Socialism.
The Great Society.
Entitlements.
Farm Subsidies.
No Child Left Behind.
Yep, socialism.
Obama is the guy now and as such he is fair game. In the interest of fairness let's consider what we are attributing to his doctrine when in fact that attribute has been in existence here since before he was a gleam in his fathers eye.

Joanna said...

Doug,I'm looking at you flipping the bird. I guess the hippie in you has changed.Just wait until the cows come in.You may choose not to so hastily flip the bird:)

Jo - Obama is the president of the United States, NOT of the world. There is no world government and there are no citizens of the world and (most critically) there are no rights granted to non-citizens in the US constitution. Sure, Obama is currently basking in the sunlight of "global warmth" but, face it, he hasn't made any decision yet. He hasn't led us anywhere. And, he has taken an oath to be the president of the United States of America and to defend and protect the constitution. Let's all hold him to that.

You said that Obama is for "the world in recession." Do you know the source of this current world recession? the reason for the market collapse? Take a look into the root cause of this.

Hey, BO and the democrats won big in the election. I grant you that. You certainly have the right to celebrate in the unprecendented inauguration activities. But, don't tell us on the left that we have to shut up and go with the flow. We are not united as one just because BO won the election. Bi-partisan doesn't mean we have no more interest (or say) in where this country is headed.

Sean said...

Doug - you are absolutely right about the socialism that is already creeped into our society. This is in the form of the bail outs, the "socialist security" program and many other places. It is not new and BO did not invent it.

But, we do have an unprecented left leaning governement now. The house and senate are both under Democrat control and the recently elected president is arguably the most liberal ever. This will make could lead to even more socialization of this country.

Doug said...

Jo,
I think you need to go back and read what I just wrote.
I rarely hesitate to "flip the bird". Cows or no cows.

I know I don't have to tell all of you that I've been a very happy woman since Tuesday...I took away from his speech that as Americans we should all own up to what is our past and it is the responsibility of each and every one of us to to make the future better. I don't hear that he says the government's job is to solve my problems...we are all in this together and he's calling on all of us to do our part to help fix the mess we are in.

Joanna said...

Sean, you seem to be under the impression that I thought Barrack Obama was President of the world. Uh Duh! Who do you think you are? Maybe life in reality is different than your own closed mind sees.I don't know.
Doug,I was reffering to an old pic back at DC.You looked like you could pass the torch but,I may be wrong now.
Cindy and Juliet, Right on girlfriends!!!I knew someone had some 'mind" left.By the way,Claudia made the news here...Pro Obama, not BO...jeez.

Doug said...

I manage to piss people off without even trying. Just like old times.

Ric Larson said...

Joanna, be careful. Sean does not post a think with reserch or knowing what he is talking about. His 'Posts' are factual.

Doug, you may piss peope off, but keep it coming! We love it!

Joanna said...

Ric,it is a free country and I will post whatever I want.I don't care if Sean agrees or not. I'm very well read also.I just feel so much negativity toward Barack Obama. So the democrats are in majority. As a nation,we voted for real change and it has come. You can rant and rave all you want, but the reality is now and many days to come.So let's see how everything works out.Truly only time will tell in a positive way:)

Good deal Jo! Informal education (self read-education) is some times better than a formal education).

But when are you going to get your Phd., like in Political Sience?

Joanna said...

Soon.How about yourself?

Joanna said...

Mat,You really are a person of 2 minds. One you married a Chamorro. Two,you love to say how the lazy Chamorro's want there checks from Uncle Sam for the atrocities suffered during WWII.The U.S. basically said that Japan was to be rebuilt and those that suffered weren't to seek compensation from the Japanese but, from the U.S.My father-in-law,at 84 yrs.old, still sees that.He fought side by side with the U.S.soldiers with no recognition whatsoever. Also,he was a farmer and sweat and toiled the soil. Not all Chamorro's are waiting for a hand out!Look at your own brother-in law as an example and many, many more that work long hours and pay their taxes.Think about them, like my husband who is now a Manager for our local cable company. He never asks for handouts and the Chamorro's we know don't either.

Ric Larson said...

Jo, I have no intensions of ever getting a Ph.D. I am happy and very secure with myself with my current level of education. But I do read a lot.

Mat, when are you and your lovely wife going to start your on-line Guamanian food busines? Your wife is the best cook ever dude (cough, cough, cough...well besides mine)!

Joanna said...

Ric,I thought so.
Mat,What's up man?
