Robert Checks In

Wow, 30-some odd years. It doesn’t seem possible we were all once so young (but hardly innocent). Of course a lot has happened since those heady days of hanging out at the bus stop, but I can still remember the smell.

Since leaving the island I've pretty much followed my heart, though some say it was something else I was following. Either way, it has taken me to all corners of the country and a few spots in between. I’ve worked as a diesel mechanic, a Navy electronics technician and as an equipment tech in the semiconductor industry.

I’ve managed to change wives almost as often as jobs, with each lasting 8 to 10 years. I’m currently on my 3rd one (wife, not job). 4 offspring have been produced from these affairs – 2 from my second wife and 2 from my future ex (just kidding honey). My oldest kid will be a senior in high school while my youngest is going into first grade. Yep, it’s official, I’m an idiot!

Last summer we moved to Utah to help start up a new factory. Damn, there are a lot of white people here; seems funny after growing up as a minority. At least my kids won’t have to worry about getting their ass kicked at school just for being a lighter shade of pale.

Enough about me for now. I look forward to hearing from and about you all.

I'm not a fancy gadget guy with one of those smokin hot do-it-all, new and improved computer/camera/stereo/vibrator cell phones, so there's no up to date pictures to send just yet. I think my wife has a digital camera though, so I'll see what I can do.

I think this blog idea is awesome, so thanks to Robert for using his cyber technical savvy to get it started.

My story is gonna be a long one with a lot of twists and turns, so I'm not even going to attempt it right now. More to follow...

Man I'm still on my first wife and I only have two daughters. Guess I have some catching up to do. On second thought...
What a nicely written blog, one would almost think that you were the son of an english professor or something. Even more remarkable given the number of brain cells that were sacrificed at the altar of our youth.
I'm getting ready to take off for a week so I'll have more later. Anybody live near Chicago I'll be in that area middle of October on business.
Nice to hear from you all.

It's amazing to me that Robert's picture is exactly how I remember him, the last time I saw him on Guam. Of course we had just camped out in the jungle down at Pago Bay the night before, with a wide assortment of interesting treats in our picnic basket. Rod Duncan was with us and could verify my story, if only I knew where he was. I'll keep looking.

I'm not sure if any of you remember Danny Eaton from Harmon Village, Carlos Heights and then Yigo. We went to Barrigada Junior High together. He now lives on Oahu in Hawaii. I have his phone number and talk to him often but he is still in the stone ages when it comes to computers and email. Danny said he remembers Robert Carraway and sends his aloha.

Just checking in...No pics just yet, but we have some awesome snow and glacier pictures from up here in Alaska. Imagine a "Guamanian" liking the snow, but I do.

No thoughts on trading spouses just yet. We celebrated our 24th anniversay August 20th. Two kids (one of each); 16 and 11.

My parents and youngest sister (Nani) live in Hawaii. Nani is the Technology Coordinator at Hanahaouli School in Honolulu. Debi is a nursing professor at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland. Emi passed away about 4 years ago shortly before her 40th birthday (breast cancer); she had been living in San Diego and keeping up with the Ysrael girls and Frances Flynn (think USO Day Camp and St. John's School).

Looking forward hearing more about and from all of you.

I guess it's time I posted some info. I've been married for a second time for 3 years after raising 3 girls on my own for about 10 years. Jennifer is 27, married and has 2 kids, Val is 22, on her own, and Chelsea is 17, still at home. I also have a 16 year old stepdaughter who lives with us full time and a 22 year old stepson who is married, in the army and in Iraq.

I met my husband while ballroom dancing. He was a shrimp boat owner/captain but lost his boat in hurricane Katrina and is now working for Hess and going to college.

Dad moved the family here to Fort Myers after leaving Guam in 75. Dad died 3 years ago and mom is in poor health herself. My sister Pat is living with her and taking care of her.

I'm a medical technologist in a hospital microbiology lab and have been with the same health system for 27 years.

Will post a pic when I get one of my teenagers to show me how..

I keep in touch with Becki (Kalb) Wells. In fact she was just here a couple of months ago for a visit and we had a great time talking aboult old times.

Robert had a great idea and it's great hearing about everybody.
