The Sourthern Command Post

This summer I moved my family from New Hampshire to Texas. We're just NW of Dallas in a suburb called Flower Mound. I'm not sure anyone else is in these parts (though maybe Desi or her kids from time to time) but give me a ring if you are. I have to practice my Southern hospitality.

I hear Texas is happening, a good government down there for the most part and a good economy. It is a BIG place..

Economy is booming. They are building like crazy - both highways and retail. Susan and I lived in the next town over back in the late 90's - it is almost unrecognizable with the amount of development here.

What all this under Obama?

Texas is one state that realizes its own sovereignty. Sadly, most others do not. Or, there would likely be many more booming states instead of many teetering on the edge of financial ruin.

That's federalism in a nutshell. We are a collection of independent states and local populations who don't all have to live the same way. Some states have income tax, some do not. Some states have private liquor stores, some do not. Some have booming economies and attract business from other states, and some are drowning in debt.

Obama doesn't have total control of everyone, yet. If he did, we'd all be California - at least for a couple years and then we'd all collapse because a nation of Californias would not be sustainable.

How's the Arab spring working out for you? We hear some pretty scary things over here - I hope you and yours are safe and sound.
