Yes Matt, in the news today.."parents will take out kids from school to avoid Obamas message" How sad!
Meanwhile, the spoiled brats are sayin, yea mom! day off from school!

juliet said...

You have heard of genetically inbred, well these kids are mental inbred. "Keep em dumb and believe en." Did anyone see that one guy and his son on Foxnews?

Pat said...

Juliet, you remember Matt? I don't, but I like the dude.

Pat said...

I want my child to hear from his own President of the United States. (I never got that). It can only be good, for him.

Cindy said...

No matter what your politics are, what about teaching your kids to have respect for the highest office in the land?

Pat said...

Yep Cindy. Kids need that...still, if not more now.

The prez talked about how poor he and his family was, but never explained where he found the massive amount of money required to get his high dollar education. Did he flip burgers or wash dishes? Did he perform some type of governmental service? Did he ever have any type of job to work his way through college? Just wondering...

juliet said...

Try student loans. I think study at Harvard gives someone more of an edge than flip'n burgers. Just smarter that most of us Dave.

Pat said...

I asked Mat Kalb Face book, friend? No response. Guess he doesn't like me. so sad. and I so don't give a care. I can make my own Guam chcken, Kiliguen, red rice and lumpias.
He wants to go to colorado, next reuion, I say FLA. take a vote.

Sean said...

Where is all the liberal outrage? Obama invoked God in school!

Pat said...

About the speach;

Peggy Venable, now Texas director for a group called Americans for Prosperity, said, "That’s enough to send chills down my spine. Schoolchildren should not be indoctrinated in obedience to and service in support of the president of the United States."

Funny how when a republican draft dodging, drug abusing, incompetent, illiterate buffoon is in office we are required to support him as a test of "our" patriotism and loyalty to God and country. To speak ill of him was tantamount to treason.

At least now the conservatives value free speech and dissent. If nothing else we can thank Obama for that.

BTW. I'm pretty sure I remember you Pat. I and Jon were the bratty little kids usually covered in red dirt tagging around behind the older cool kids.xoxo

Doug said...

"Thank you, God bless you, and God bless America."

Where is all the liberal outrage? Obama invoked God in school!

You have got to be fucking kidding me.

Sean said...

well, it isn't *me* that is kidding you. The ACLU has been making hay on "God in school" for decades. I've got no dog in that hunt.

Pat said...

Ok Matt, you were a little guy. I babysat most kids in the circle who were younger than me. I bet you were one of them! :)

Pat said...

covered in red clay :)

Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich spoke out Tuesday in support of President Obama's "back-to-school speech" delivered to school children across the country. Gingrich's remarks came in the wake of an outlandish controversy stirred up by conservative commentators over the address.

"President Reagan did it, President H.W. Bush did it," Gingrich said on NBC's "Today" show. "If he could give a speech tomorrow night in the tone of his speech today to the students, this country would be much better off ... It's a good speech, I recommend it to everybody if you have any doubts."

Pat said...

Wow, Newt said something that made sense finally.

Becki said...

I didn't listen to the speech because frankly I'm weary of listening to Barack Obama. That being said, I saw nothing wrong with him addressing our school children and the sound bites I did hear were quite good.

I will never be a liberal, but to the conservatives who made a big deal about this - REALLY?

Sean said...

Becki - what you saw was the "toned down" version of the speech resulting from the outrage.

I've also heard that the way the administration scheduled this even was out of the norm. They aparently when directly to the teachers and bypassed the school boards. I'll see what else I can dig up on that.

Doug said...

He should have "toned it down" even further and maybe just read a book like My Pet Goat.
In my opinion there's really nothing spectacular or provocative about this whole affair save the knee jerk reactions that we continue to see from the usual suspects.
Within 24 hours of announcing the Presidents intention to address students across the country and BEFORE any of the actual content had been made public there was already much ado over the Presidents motive.
Now I will grant you that the initial accompanying talking points was most unartfully worded.
"How can I help the President" was a shameful and sophomoric partisan shill and whoever authored this tactless exercise in self service needs to be working on their resume.
That said, have we descended so deep into an abyss of partisanship that we can't let the President at least speak to the people before we condemn his motives.
FDR did it. Reagan and both Bushes, JFK too. They all had agendas of course. You would expect that they would being President and all. Seems kind of pointless to have a leader with no direction.
In the case of Obama I sometimes think that no matter what his message may be for some it's not going to be good enough. No, in his case it's really more a matter of the messenger than the actual message.

Dave said...

Look at who he surrounds himself with. Agenda? That's stating it mildly. Race has nothing to do with it, character has everything to do with it. Who really wants a character who associates himself with scum, lecturing America's children on how to behave? That's where the outrage came from.

juliet said...

Who are the "scum" that you talking about Dave?

Cindy said...

It always makes me go ....hmmmm when people want you to know how "Christian" they are, yet they also are quick to condem and judge others, using words like scum and trash to describe their fellow human beings. I also have friends who are very vocal in their criticism of others even when they know that I am aware that they cheat on their spouses. It's a wonder to me.

Doug said...

Dave,
I think for some people race has A LOT to do with it.

juliet said...

"Cheat on their spouses" I guess statistically that would be a few people here on the blog. Not me.

Doug said...

C'mon get with it, it's known as hiking the appalachian trail.

juliet said...

I think so too Doug. I don't think that good old boy from down south would have yelled out "liar" to Obama while he was giving his speech to Congress if Obama had been a white guy. I mean Bush fabricated a reason to go to war and that did not even register a peep from that guy.

An Inventory for Self-Righteousness.

In order to avoid being self-righteous one must recognize that one is self-righteous. Answering fundamental questions may help one determine if one is self-righteous.
1. Do I think I am better than others around me?
2. In which ways do I think that I am better than others?
3. Do I identify with and agree with the statement ‘If only others would see things the way I see it they would know the truth’
4. Has anyone ever told me that I come across as arrogant or self-righteous?
5. Do I tend to remove myself from people who do not agree with me?
6. Am I concerned that others will try to get me to change my perspectives?
7. Do I try to convince others to accept ‘my truths’?
8. Do I reject people who do not accept my point of view?
9. Do I judge others who do not agree with me?

Cindy said...

I think it's VERY much about race.

Cindy said...

Doug, I'm a little slow today, too much swine flu exposure, but I finally got the hiking comment...lol

Cindy said...

Joe Wilson has hung himself...he has fired up a movement to replace him in Congress. Rob Miller is a Democrat and an Iraq war veteran, and last year he won 46% of the vote against Wilson despite raising half as much money.
Grassroots progressives are teaming up to help Rob Miller take on Joe Wilson, raising over $750,000 in less than two days. They've set a goal of raising of $1 million.

Doug said...

I was in South Carolina last weekend. Reading the editorial page in the Greenville rag letters to the editor there are apparently a number of people in that state that are just dumbfounded that the governor will not quit.
I actually kind of admire his tenacity in sticking to his principles. Must be a hell of a woman.

Pat said...

I don't hike the Appalchion trail, but then, I don't have a spouse. Funny Doug.

juliet said...

So Doug that would be hiking the appalachian trail with Kiss'n cousins.lol

rac said...

Cindy, you may need to clarify your meaning of grass roots. To some it means being funded and organized by large corporate sponsors.

Cindy said...

from Wiki:A grassroots movement (often referenced in the context of a political movement) is one driven by the politics of a community. The term implies that the creation of the movement and the group supporting it is natural and spontaneous, highlighting the differences between this and a movement that is orchestrated by traditional power structures. Often, grassroots movements are at the local level, as many volunteers in the community give their time to support the local party, which can lead to helping the national party. In the United States, the first use of the phrase "grassroots and boots" is thought to have been coined by Senator Albert Jeremiah Beveridge of Indiana, who said of the Progressive Party in 1912, "This party has come from the grass roots. It has grown from the soil of people's hard necessities."

Rush Limbaugh's adjectives for Obama's health care speech: Disgusting, reprehensible, predictable, grossly inappropriate, filled with lies and distortions, fraudulent, awful, petulant, childish, divisive, crude, disgusting. Wow, does the guy just go to the dictionary, write down all the bad words he comes across, string them together and put that out as intelligent commentary??? He doesn't even make sense to me...I can't believe people listen to him and think he knows what he's talking about.

Doug said...

Especially ironic given that any number of those adjectives could be used to describe those that make their living doling out political commentary.
From both ends of the spectrum.

Dave said...

The halo was burning bright the other night.. and the kool-aid tasted like fine wine. When in doubt.. play the race card. It seems I remember the president calling someone a liar from the pulpit that same night. If scum does not properly define his friends and associates, then perhaps scumbags would better define them. Research the czars, acorn and the seiu my friends, and you will see the dregs of the earth exposed.

Washington, D.C.--Today, Media Matters released a new report showing that when discussing major news stories, conservatives in the media have repeatedly resorted to blaming ACORN in place of substantive analysis of causes and solutions, even where the organization has little or nothing to do with the issue. The report can be viewed at:
http://mediamatters.org/items/200904070005

"We are disappointed, but not surprised, in the report's findings," said Bertha Lewis, CEO and Chief Organizer of ACORN. "ACORN has watched over the years as the right wing has attempted to blame us for everything from the 2008 financial crisis to voter fraud. We hope that this report serves as a wake-up call that we must no longer be used as a kicking post."

During the 2008 financial crisis, several in the media claimed, suggested or uncritically reported that ACORN contributed to the housing crisis by bullying banks into irresponsible lending to minorities. For example, the media has falsely asserted that much of the housing crisis was caused by ACORN intimidating banks under the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) to lend loans to minorities and the poor, all of whom could not make payments. In fact, according to housing experts, a large number of subprime loans were not made under the

From Guam,It all sounds ridiculous. Race does play a major role as I see it. As Dean Circle brats,we know racism personally. If Georgie made the speech, not a peep at all would be heard.

Dave said...

Georgie wasn't a marxist.

rac said...

Good point Dave, he was more the fascist dictator type.
