The prez talked about how poor he and his family was, but never explained where he found the massive amount of money required to get his high dollar education. Did he flip burgers or wash dishes? About the speach;
Peggy Venable, now Texas director for a group called Americans for Prosperity, said, "That’s enough to send chills down my spine. Schoolchildren should not be indoctrinated in obedience to and service in support of the president of the United States."
Funny how when a republican draft dodging, drug abusing, incompetent, illiterate buffoon is in office we are required to support him as a test of "our" patriotism and loyalty to God and country. To speak ill of him was tantamount to treason.
At least now the conservatives value free speech and dissent. If nothing else we can thank Obama for that.

Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich spoke out Tuesday in support of President Obama's "back-to-school speech" delivered to school children across the country. Gingrich's remarks came in the wake of an outlandish controversy stirred up by conservative commentators over the address.
"President Reagan did it, President H.W. Bush did it," Gingrich said on NBC's "Today" show. "If he could give a speech tomorrow night in the tone of his speech today to the students, this country would be much better off ... It's a good speech, I recommend it to everybody if you have any doubts."
Wow, Newt said something that made sense finally.
I didn't listen to the speech because frankly I'm weary of listening to Barack Obama. That being said, I saw nothing wrong with him addressing our school children and the sound bites I did hear were quite good.
I will never be a liberal, but to the conservatives who made a big deal about this - REALLY?
Becki - what you saw was the "toned down" version of the speech resulting from the outrage.
I've also heard that the way the administration scheduled this even was out of the norm. They aparently when directly to the teachers and bypassed the school boards. I'll see what else I can dig up on that.
He should have "toned it down" even further and maybe just read a book like My Pet Goat.
In my opinion there's really nothing spectacular or provocative about this whole affair save the knee jerk reactions that we continue to see from the usual suspects.
Within 24 hours of announcing the Presidents intention to address students across the country and BEFORE any of the actual content had been made public there was already much ado over the Presidents motive.
Now I will grant you that the initial accompanying talking points was most unartfully worded.
"How can I help the President" was a shameful and sophomoric partisan shill and whoever authored this tactless exercise in self service needs to be working on their resume.
That said, have we descended so deep into an abyss of partisanship that we can't let the President at least speak to the people before we condemn his motives.
FDR did it. Reagan and both Bushes, JFK too. They all had agendas of course. You would expect that they would being President and all. Seems kind of pointless to have a leader with no direction.
In the case of Obama I sometimes think that no matter what his message may be for some it's not going to be good enough. No, in his case it's really more a matter of the messenger than the actual message.
Look at who he surrounds himself with. Agenda? That's stating it mildly. Race has nothing to do with it, character has everything to do with it. Who really wants a character who associates himself with scum, lecturing America's children on how to behave? That's where the outrage came from.

It always makes me go ....hmmmm when people want you to know how "Christian" they are, yet they also are quick to condem and judge others, using words like scum and trash to describe their fellow human beings. I also have friends who are very vocal in their criticism of others even when they know that I am aware that they cheat on their spouses. It's a wonder to me.

An Inventory for Self-Righteousness.
In order to avoid being self-righteous one must recognize that one is self-righteous. Answering fundamental questions may help one determine if one is self-righteous.
1. Do I think I am better than others around me?
2. In which ways do I think that I am better than others?
3. Do I identify with and agree with the statement ‘If only others would see things the way I see it they would know the truth’
4. Has anyone ever told me that I come across as arrogant or self-righteous?
5. Do I tend to remove myself from people who do not agree with me?
6. Am I concerned that others will try to get me to change my perspectives?
7. Do I try to convince others to accept ‘my truths’?
8. Do I reject people who do not accept my point of view?
9. Do I judge others who do not agree with me?

Rush Limbaugh's adjectives for Obama's health care speech: Disgusting, reprehensible, predictable, grossly inappropriate, filled with lies and distortions, fraudulent, awful, petulant, childish, divisive, crude, disgusting. Wow, does the guy just go to the dictionary,write down all the bad words he comes across, string them together and put that out as intelligent commentary??? He doesn't even make sense to me...I can't believe people listen to him and think he knows what he's talking about.
Especially ironic given that any number of those adjectives could be used to describe those that make their living doling out political commentary.
