As tropical storm Fay makes her way out of Cuba it appears she may take a swipe at our Florida contingent of islanders. Might be a good time to stock up on "supplies" and throw the lawn chairs in the pool.
I went yesterday and filled up my car with gas (long lines and some places empty) and got some bottled water (I'm on a well--so no electricity =no water)and some food that does not need to be cooked. Today will spend bringing in plants and patio furniture. I'm on Team A at the hospital which means we are there for the duration of the storm.
I'm betting we don't even get much rain off of it here if any. A very lopsided system with most of the weather off to the east. If it passes to the east of us as forecast it will be of no consequence. As for Pat & Cindy...pack your umbrella.
I got a call around 3 from my boss that the hospital has activated their hurricane plan and I have to report in between 5:30 and 11 tonight. Will be a long night but Chris Franquez had sent me a blow up Coleman air mattress a few months ago so I will be camping out on the lab lounge floor in comfort. Thanks Chris!!!!
On Saturday my daughter Chelsea and I adopted a shelter dog. I wasn't too crazy about getting a pet (someone else for me to worry about) but I felt that the dog would be good for my daughter who is 18, mildly mentally retarded and autistic and crazy about any animals. The dog is going to my other daughter's house for the storm and Chelsea, who normally would be a little fearful and clingy to me in situations like this has informed me that she does not want to go to the hospital with me but intends to stay with the dog at her sister's house "so the dog won't be afraid and confused" about being separated from her. So awesome and amazing that in just 2 days this dog is making such a difference in my daughter's life.
Dang Chris, I just realized that I need some size D batteries for the little pump to blow up the air mattress!! I'll have to stop at the store on my way but if they are out I may be sleeping on the hard cold floor after all!
A litle wind, lots of rain, no big deal. I talked to Pat, she had a little water leaking in back porch roof of Mom and Dad's house but is fine. I got to leave the hospital at around 11 this morning and Chelsea and dog were happy to get back home. The air matteress did work, and it was very comfy..a queen size too, my coworkers commented on what a nice sized bed I had..lol Thanks Chris!
My yard has lots of standing water in the ditches in front.I'm still waiting for things to dry up to be able to cut the grass. At night the sound of the frogs has been deafening and the mosquitoes attack as soon as you step out the door. We are breathing a sigh of relief that we are out of the projected path of Gustav for now. We don't need any more rain. Somebody is going to get hit with that badboy though. It's probably going to be a big one.
Ahh late Summer in Florida. Dreadful heat & humidity, the most vicious fucking mosquitos I have ever encountered and hurricanes too just to ease the monotony. But we have college football now so life is good yes?
It's all Bush's fault! He's been letting Cheney play with the weather machine again, Bad Dick!Hahaha it's the end of the world as we know it. Sorry. just been watching the DNC on tv. Where's our saviors(Gore and Pelosi) when we need them?
I can so relate to the threat of a hurricane/typhoon. It is so scary that sometimes you think it might be the huge megastorm.I'm so glad to hear it wasn't. I stayed at the Hilton for Pongsona.Everything was flipped almost, and ,my daughter and I just returned from Tokyo,Ca.@Utah.She flipped her little lid the next morning:)Poor thing:)

Cindy, good for you for taking in a shelter dog! You have a kind heart!
Well so far as expected no rain here. Hot as Hell though.

BTW Cindy, what exactly does it mean when a man gives a woman a bed for a present? Just seems like an odd gift to me... unless, hmm?
It is the male version of the "nesting instinct" :)
Now they,re saying that Fay might make landfall a third time. That Bitch! Stock up on the Beer baby!
So okay we ended up getting 20 inches of rain. I sure can call 'em can't I.
