Failing the Grade

So far I'm not too impressed. During the election we were to believe the Obama team had a plan for the economy. Now it seems that may have been nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Granted he's only been in office for a month. But still, a month should have been plenty of time to reveal what he had up his sleeve. Instead we get a some vague tease from the Treasury Secretary with no follow thru on the back side.

With rumors of bank nationalization hanging over the economy like an executioner's axe it seems the Fed could do a lot to stop the bleeding. From my perspective what we are really lacking is strong leadership. Even President Clinton said he would like to see Obama become more positive on the economy. Unless the administration gets a little more proactive I fear there won't be any pieces to pick up. And then "you guys" can all say I told you so.

Robert, if and when I am able to say "I told you so" it will, indeed be a sad day for us all. I anticipate no satisfaction from being right in this.

RAC'ster, I so respect what you are saying here.

Yes, he has only been in office for about a month. I always believe in giving the new Prez the benifit of dought, regardless of party offiliation.

But, I must add; There are a lot of the liberal social workers that I work with are complaining about his dictator like style. I too have noticed it, but do not talk politics at work.

And a lot of my coworkers are also guestioning his economic plan. There is no plan! Social workers don't make a lot of money, and most don't mind paying taxes, as long as they know what they are going towards. This stimulas package just seems to be "smoke and mirrors".

I just pray that he is a successful President...for our Countries sake. But I pray that he is not successful in his campain promises.

A few days back I commented that I had the impression that Obama was in a bit over his head.
Who wouldn't be given the shit storm with a head wind that is our current economic situation. What was our choice? John McCain, who in October told us that the fundamentals of the economy are strong. I don't imagine that things would be much different economically were it he at 1600 Pennsylvania right now. Unless maybe he had a trillion bucks or so to throw into the economy. This a chicken and egg scenario. Democrats say this ongoing meltdown is the result of eight years of failed policies of the previous administration. Republicans counter with it's the chickens come home to roost from Clinton policies and now Obama is exacerbating the problem. And on it goes.
It's my opinion that what we have now as much as anything is a crisis of confidence.
Even the normally recession proof alcohol sales industry has recorded it's first annual drop in sales since 1959. Regardless of how this next four years plays out that's one thing for which I will not share in the blame.
It's been a brief honeymoon for the new guy.
Drink heavily.

And my wife thought I was nuts when starting a year or so ago I...
-eliminated all short term debt
-invested in gold and silver
-stocked up on ammo (it's doubled in price and most places try to sell you this cheap chinese shit)
-moved what was left of my long term investments into Treasury funds
-everything else is liquid in guaranteed money market, well at least as much as anything can be guaranteed these days.
A few cases of spam and a couple of bottles of my friend Jack and I say let the Darwinian flush begin. It's been some time coming and we may as well get it over with.
I learned to be a survivor years ago with a band of brothers on a faraway island and I kind of like my chances.
Peace out.

Well said Doug!

To clarify, I believe all is not lost... yet. But certainly the President needs to take charge before things spiral out of control. He can start by kicking Geithner in the balls and telling him to do his job. That stunt of building up the bank plan then coming up with nothing leaves everyone wondering if they even have a plan. Unless the Captain can get this ship under control quickly we are headed for a date with the iceberg. And when it happens, I'm going do my best to end up in Doug's life boat, for sure. Cheers.

I hope you bought heavy artillery Doug. Because when the man comes-a-knockin with his metal detectors and storm troopers, he's gonna find your gold, your silver and your arsenal. Not only is he going to find them, he will most definitely confiscate them. Any electronic asset, which is just about everything these days, will also disappear in a flash. The only things left will be the most important to your survival, your spam and jack. If any one man can do so much damage to a country in one month, God help us when four years are behind us. And rac, that's when I'll say I told you so!

Wow Dave, you're starting to sound like a tin foil hat wearing, paranoid conspiracy theorists. So what's your take on 9/11, fluoride, HIV and the holocaust? ;)

Why wait, told you so Hahahaha.

Dave,
I would hardly consider a snubnose and a 12 gauge pump heavy artillery.
Although...a 12 gauge with a rifled slug will take the fight right out of a horny 300 lb gorilla.
I can't imagine a realistic scenario where Uncle Sam is kicking down doors and confiscating firearms.
All this time I thought i was the paranoid one of the bunch.
Except in my case it's because everyone really is out to get me.

The president is set to addresses a joint session of Congress this Tuesday night. Should be a most interesting speech. I suspect we will get a better feel for his economic plan. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

Hope on RAC,More of the same to follow.Man this is getting real good.
