I quit smoking 14 months ago, after many years of enjoying the good smoke. When I got married 2 years ago, I promised my wife that I would quite. I didn't quit as I had wanted to and promised. One day she came home from work early, and caught me sneaking a smoke in the drive way. Al she said was "its me or the smokes". haven't had one since, but have been sucking on 'Nicotine Lozengers' every since! They work like a charm!
Clay, Your Dad will be very much missed and I'm sorry that we have both had to experience this loss recently. I'm glad that you quit too. We have to be around to still be posting on this blog 20 years from now.. At Mom's memorial I told family who smokes (daughter, nephew, Pat) is getting Nicotine Patches from me for Christmas.
Powerful words Clay - thank you for your support. I am deeply sorry for your own loss. I think it's awesome how you've turned your experience into a desire to help someone else. Maybe there's hope for this world yet.
Clay, sorry about your Dad. Smoking is a tough habit to quit! Any words of encouragement for smokers to quit is always welcome!
well here are a few real tips to help stop smoking:
Work on working the habit out of your life. Replace it with something else. make your smokes hard to get. Get help. You can do it. I've seen many people who were really hooked stop. Have a plan for relapse and dump or limit relationships that don't support you to move forward with positive changes. Look up some of those online resources. You can do it! RA RA RA. Family members don't be enablers! let the smokers know that you never find it acceptable. Make a real plan of action and get everyone on board.
Quit 17 years ago. Only way to do it is to want to really. Cigarettes are the smoke that should be illegal.
Clay i remember your dad well and he was a good loyal Gecko and a good & decent man. R.I.P.
I smoke and I argree with Doug. You can lead the horse to the water but, you can't make it drink.Someone taught me that.
Clay, I remember your Dad calling you home on many occasions. I can still hear his voice ringing in my ears after all these years. CLAYTON DEAN !!!
I won't forget your Dad, or any of the other Dean's Circle parents who have passed on. Including my own Dad, who died of cancer in 1994 at the young age of 59. My wife's Mom died of lung cancer from cigarettes, a very hard and painful thing to watch and live through. Its just not worth it. Now is the time to Quit.
Clay, so sorry about your dad. I remember him calling you too. no blinking outside lights for you!I'm sure he suffered to just breathe, like mom, so please try to take comfort as I do, knowing the pain is over and they are happy. I'm sure mom is finally back in dads arms again. take good care of yourself clay. my thoughts will be with you.
I quit smoking when I got out of the Navy. Jill hates the things. I needed my fix, so I started chewen Baky (chewing tabacco). I quit that 11 years ago. I encurage any and all who smoke or chew to quit.
