Every time hear these songs on the radio: 'Fox on the run', 'Little littleWillie' (both by Sweet), 'Your so Vain', and any song by the Beach Boys, brings me back to Guam. Does any one else have a song that they hear that brings them back to the 'Rock'?

"Summer Breeze" by Seals and croft. Many others, esp cecelio and Kapono, but for some reason Summer Breeze does it for me everytime.
O.K. Alice, your just brought me way back into memory lane...
Island Girl (elton john), Jungle Love (steve miller band), Thunder Island (by jay ferguson), Seasons in the sun (terry Jack), and yes, Summer Breeze does it to me as well!
There are more!
The one about thebabue.(PIK)
at the end of the song (sung in chamoru,) the lyrics went....
...you wonder where the yellow went
when you brush your teeth with
Pepsodent...
calung,calung,calung.....
Kalapana!
Hey Chris, the BQ (Barbie)! Yeah! I kind of remember a Chamoru song about that too. :)
Dream Weaver! (By Gary White). This one always sends me back to the 'Rock'!
Anything by Deep Purple always takes me back to Doug's incensed and air conditioned abode. His brothers were the first to turn me on to the sounds of real rock and roll. In addition, when the Pratts left the island they gave us all their Chinese bootleg albums. We had a pretty good selection of Cream, Ten Years After, Blood Sweat and Tears, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, and of course lots of Neil Diamond... uhg.
"Leaven on a jet plane", "Stairway to heaven" "The Who, Out here in the..."
"You're So Vain "(I always thought of Frank Perez when they played that song at school), "Stairway to Heaven", and anything by Cat Stevens (Iloved him then)
Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys by Traffic. Great album. Reminds me of some of our misspent nights "camping" out in the coconut grove. By the way Cindy I still like Cat Stevens despite his political shortcomings.
I currently have Robin Trower in my CD player so yeah music wise I'm stuck in the 60's early 70's.
And yes Robert you're right Deep Purple Machine Head & Alvin Lee & Ten Years After no collection is complete without 'em.
Also "You're so Vain" - Pete Larson used to sing "I had some dreams there were clouds in my coffee. . . and CREAM!"
"China Grove" was Dan's favorite song for a while.
"Fame", "Love Rollercoaster", "Fly Robin Fly", "Rhinestone Cowboy" - these all played constantly on the cafe jukebox down at Inarajan Jr. High.
"Hotel California" (try to follow this) - Mat, Ric, Dave, and others were camping one night over in the boonies by UOG. Mat told this ghost story that had something to do with a couple in a camper looking for a hotel. Someone ended up dead and the punchline was "I get the camper". For whatever reason, I've always associated this with Hotel California and I can still to this day remember Mat and that punchline.
How about having to learn "O, come all ye faithful" in Chamorro. One of the schools required this in about 5th or 6th grade.
I remember we always started " I pledge my allegiance to the Flag" followed by "stand ye guamanians for your country..." all through elementary school. It really ticks me off when I don't see Americans putting their hand over their heart during the national anthem...especially our ambassadors but I guess they just weren't conditioned at an early enough age. Protocol "just ain't" what it used to be.
I saw where you can order "mariana's homegrown" on the internet.
the joker..Really love your peaches wanna shake your tree"...3 dog night, "joy to the world, all the boys and girls"...and ofcourse, all Cat Steavens and carol king. oh! and because of the field trips we took to go see Romeo and Juliet and "oliver", knew both sound tracks by heart. Sigh...what a romantic.
My wife is chamorro so anything that reminds me of her reminds me of home.Orleans "still the one",and
Wild cherry "you sexy thing".Yea those really get me going.
Pink Floyd, "Dark side of the Moon". For some reason it does not sound the same as when the walls moved.
And Alice, I have "Marianas Homegrown".
Cecilio & Kapono for me. It just so happens that Quintinn Holi, who is with the C&K band, is also in my band "Tahitian Dreams". He plays 2nd guitar and sings great.
Well I guess I'll end this with
"Teenage Wastland"
It aint over! I loved music then, and still do. I was in to the Ozmonds for a while, then Mac Davis' "Baby Baby don't get hooked on me". Carley Simon sang about Clouds in my coffie. I found my first Zepplin (III)tape while camping out. Same campout as Sean posted. We played it on my tape player at night, it scared us so bad i think someone had to take Steven L. home.
"My Eyes Adored you" "Hooked on a feeling", and Yes Sean "China Grove"(can't believe you rememberede that).
Then there were the Carpenters.
I remember sittin with Amy S.in thier living room one saturday morning watching cartoons, when alice, Nancy and Wendy came in and asked me,"Dan, do you like the Carpenters?" Wwho me? here are three good looking babes asking me, a 3rd grader if I liked the Carpenters? Do I say yes, or no? I clould see there was a conflict among the babes. "there ok", I replied, It was a neutral answer, and that seemed to suffice thier inquiry. Wow did i feel priveledged to be asked my musical opinion by three older babes.
Aerosmith came out with thier first album with "Dream-On" in 75.
probably the song that reminds me of Guam is "American Pie" Dean boy and I knew all the words and we used to sing it with Joanna and Amy and anyone else that would join in.
