Lost circle found by Pat

hey fellow natives. Dave, I loved your reference to "the lost circle. Thanks Robert and Cindy. this is very cool. Robert, that pic you sent, thought I was the only one who had that. I remember that was Harrys cam on a tripod and he had to run fast to get into the shot. Funny how he looks so composed. ha ha. Will write more later.....just got off work. Looking forward to reading ya'll.

Hi Pat,
long time. Last time I saw you was at the Antonio B Won Pat International Airport 34 years ago in July as I was about to leave the island for good. It is very gratifying to know that you're still among us.
I hope this note finds you well and I look forward to hearing more about what's transpired in the 30 some years since I left the circle.
You must have been living in Florida for awhile to be using the phrase "ya'll". Not the type of lingo you normally hear from a girl from Hayward Wisconsin. But then we all have something of an identity crisis don't we. Not quite from where we came from before we got to the island, not quite from the island & not really from where we are now.
Take good care of yourself dear.
By the way where do you work to be getting off in the middle of the night? Good Lord.

Hi Doug, thanks for "commenting". I was so excited! I just finished a note when internet threw me off and i was saying things like #%@&!. I always thought I might run into you one day. So glad you're alive and well and happy.
yea, been in FLA a while..sometimes I think, too long. I'm back with mom in the same house we moved into when I was 16. But i'm grateful to be here with her. hey I don't remember when you left Guam. I always thought we left before ya'll. Did you remember that photo? You were such "bad" boys. I have to smile when I see It. You had it right on Doug...not quite from somewhere. Dude, you're still the poet! I'll go before this thing blows me off again. Will try to send more photos from Guam and of kids and me and bore ya'll ta death.
Take good care of yourself too dear

Hey there Pat, I was wondering how long it would take before we heard from all of the Caraway kids. It's funny how I still think of us as we were back then, even though it is over 30 years later. I have been at this Dean's Circle search for many years now, and the major break through was on classmates.com. There are so many people from GW posted there, it'll blow your mind. The names just jump out at you. That's where I found Juliet, who led me to Doug and Desi, then Becky and Cindy showed up. That's how I found Robert who was kind enough to assure me that you were still alive and well. My brother Chris has Jeff and Robert Jones's phone numbers and has let Jeff know about this blog site and gave him mine and your bro's email address. A few years ago I started having that same identity crisis that Doug speaks of. I found that when looking back, most people best identify with their teen years and teen-age friends. That's when you all kept coming to mind and the Dean's Circle days started playing over and over in my head. Since our families left Guam, I have gone back several times. I was able to see Alice, Sammy, Dean-boy and Joanna Sparks. I ran into Nancy Sickler during one visit, over in Mangilao at Cruz store. She was married to a Chamorro guy who was somehow related to the family that owned the store. I would see Benny Bast often and met up with Paul Carlson recently. I'm still waiting for Becky Kalb to hook me up with her brother Matt. My brothers Pete and Dan would love to hear from him. As I go around that circle in my mind, I can still see the faces of the families that lived there. The problem I'm having is remembering their names. But one thing is for sure, I will never forget those of you who have taken the time to sign on here at the first ever, Dean's Circle web site. Looking forward to hearing more from all of you. Keep sending those photos.

Hey Pat, I'm glad to see that you were able to get on here. Sorry I was no help..lol

Pat,
no we left I think two years or so before you all did, in July of '73. It's okay if you don't remember seeing me off at the airport. I do.
Unremarkable and easily forgotten.
I sometimes seem to have that effect on women.
I didn't really remember that picture but it sure brought back a flood of memories. It really cracked me up. It made me think of the trips to Pago Bay, four square games in front of whoevers house that was and our almost daily pilgrimages to Cruz Store. We pretty much had it made with the exception of the occasional ass kicking we took from the locals.
By the way please disregard my comment about what time you got off work. I think the server for this site is located somewhere in Eastern Europe.
Have a good day!

Hi Doug, I feel bad not remembering the day you and your family left. I think when our parents started to make a move, we all new we had to say goodbye and some of it is a blur. we were only kids, but had lived a life. A different life from anyone we ever knew before. wow, sorry so deep but i make no excuses. Robert and Cindy will tell u the same. Guam will always be a big part of who we are. ok, I'm glad u got the error on the posted time.i'm rarely alive at 4am...3:30...thats another story.

Hi Dave, such a nice note you wrote. Yea like you and probably most of us, we never forgot. and try to decribe...no one gets it. It's a sweet part of my life that I'll cherish. I can't believe u found Alice. I regretted losing touch with one of my best friends. When we moved here it was my senior year. I was kinda pissed and never wanted a class ring or a yearbook. I did go to the prom and party at the disney trip though. LOL I regret not getting the yearbook. thanks for all you've contributed.

Dave, when you ran into Nancy Sickler, did she still have a killer body? I was always jealous of how she looked in a bikini.

Doug, what has happenend to your brothers?

I've bugged Becky to sign on here. She's a very busy woman, manager in a security company, owns a bridal shop, and has 3 daughters. Her brother Matt lives in Colorado, I think , Mark died several years ago of a massive heart attack.

Cindy, you crack me up. I always wondered the same thing about Nancy. She always took away my boyfriends. Write us Nancy! and....send a pic.

Cindy, the last time I saw Nancy, it was in the early 1990s, she was just as hot as ever. A little heavier perhaps, but still a beautiful woman. When she gave me a hug I fell in love all over again. Of course her husband was standing there wondering why I wouldn't let go of his wife... : )
Pat, I was able to visit with Alice several times, saw her every couple of years from the late 70s to the early 90s. She was my 7th grade puppy-love sweetheart and has always been a great friend.
Doug, I too have often wondered about your brothers Dave and Dan. Especially Dan, as he was one of the main ring leaders, football coach and activities coordinator. I'll never forget those nights we camped out at "the jump" out in the field behind your house. Needless to say, we didn't get much sleep, if any. And then having to deliver the pacific daily newspaper the next morning. Thank goodness for the cliff.

Well let's see here... My older brothers Dan (Mac) & Dave are still alive and well and like me are living here in the North Florida Outback. Mac is just about ready to retire from thirty years of servitude with the state of Florida. He is married and has two daughters, the oldest will be turning 18 this weekend.
Dave, ever the loner remains a single man and does his own thing. Last I heard he was working for Wal-Mart.
Pat you're right, nobody quite seems to "get it". When you think about it we were world travelers by the time we were teen agers. Very few people can relate to that.
I remember those ball games Mac would organize out there in the grove, he's still a lot like that actually. I still see him fairly often, mostly during football season & the holidays. We had to be one of the few neighborhoods with their own baseball & football facilities, at least until a passing typhoon took out the baseball field. You know, for all our misdeeds one thing is certain we sure stayed active, often well into the night.
Robert thanks for clarifying the time thing, so Guam is 14 hours or so ahead of us here in FL. I think we're five hours behind Zulu but I never can seem to get that right.
Dave it's funny you remembering delivering the PDN, I'd forgotten all about that. Some nights I didn't even have to get up to deliver because I had yet to go to bed. Good times.
I'll be down at Mac's place in Waukeenah this weekend for his daughters birthday & we'll take pictures of all of us & then the challenge will be figuring out how to post to the site.
Take good care everyone until next time.

Wow, it's like I stumbled back into Dean's Circle all over again. Anyone up for riding bikes?

Doug said...

Yep it's pretty amazing how the memories come flooding back. Especially given the years that have elapsed and the diminished brain capacity of some of us.

Pat-I know Mom has an album full of pics from our Dean's Circle days. I have a scanner so if you could find them I could scan and post them.

pat said...

Cindy, you're right. we have so many tons of photos, slides, etc. promiss to take a day and fish through them. It's a sin to let them sit unseen. Kurtis already pulled out some old slides; some really funny ones...we gotta share. I'll work on that sis.
