New Year's Resolutions

I know it's kind out of style and most of them are never kept anyway but is anyone making any New Year's resolutions and what are they?

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Merry Christmas to all from Idaho.
These are from my front door this morning. If you look close, you can see Santas sliegh runner marks.

Me and my new Raider cap.
Hope you all have had a great time.
Welcome aboard CJ, to the first ever, 2nd annual, Dean's Circle blog. I know you are very busy writing books and living life to it's fullest, but please feel free in whatever spare time you may have, to post a few words, tell a few stories or share some pictures of your days on Guam. The more you visit, the more we will get to know you and perhaps someone out there will know someone you know.

Two Anderson Girls at Pago Bay Overlook, 1978

These two girls lived at Anderson AFB and attended GW from 1976 to 1978. The one on the left is named Marti and the one on the right is CJ Cantrell. CJ is now an author. I'll send her an invitation to join us, she will have some good stories to tell about her life and experiences on Guam. Does anyone recognize them or do the names sound familiar? I found CJ on Classmates and she says that she knows Desi.

Merry Christmas to all in the Circle

So much has happened in my life this past year. You all have had a part in it. I am still amazed that after all these years we are all visiting together again. I am still amazed that I got to talk to Matt Kalb, and Rick on the phone after 30 years. Rick, Sean and Dave(DRL), Joanna, Dean, Amy, over the years I have wondered what happened to you guys. We have such a deep history together and, unusual but common ground. Tomorrow is Christmas eve, hard to believe this year has pased so quickly. My dad used to say that the older you get, the faster time goes. I guess I am getting older, although I don't feel it sometimes.
Thank you all for being a part of my life, making me laugh and ressurecting so many good memories.
I have been relaying some of the wild stories(not all) from Deans Circle to my kids. They have been telling thier friends at school of all the crazy things their dad used to do. I have kids I don't even know coming up to me and asking me about our adventures, if they were really true, and if I did live on Guam. "Yes" I say, "I really lived there." We lived there. I do miss those days. (we need to write a book)
It's 31F here and the wind is blowing like crazy. Can't wait for the "Guam weather" ( 80 and 100% humidity) to return. Maybe in June.
Im writing form my family room watching the christmas tree twinkle(needles all over ther floor) watching my kids play, while we are supposed to be watching a movie together. I , We are so blessed. Our great country, our freedom, our wealth (yes, wealth compared to the rest of the world) we have so much to be thankful for. Yes we hurt from previous injuries and the aches and pains from growing old, however we are blessed. Although it is cold outside, I am warmed by the love and friendships we have.
Dave L, Robert C, again Thanks for bringing us together. And Iwant to say thank you to everyone who has logged into this site and have shared your memories. You have made 2007 a year I will never forget.
I won't be on line for a while. I have to do a total system restore on my laptop. I got Vista!!! goes with the territory.
So I'll stop rambling, got to get to bed, work tomorrow.
You all have a good Christmas! Remember the reason we have this holiday, to remember the gift of Christs Birth. And to remember the other half of the christmas story, God sending his only begotten son to give his life freely for ours on the cross.
Merry Christmas,
Dan Larson and family

Hi Gimpy..From Your Brother Ric

My 'Wife' Teresita (Teresa, your mean sister in law...hee, hee, suggested that you try one of those thermal disposable heating pads that you can buy over the counter) She uses them all the time to ease her back and neck pain. We both hope that you are feeling better, and hope the new meds are working well to ease the pain. He sister ( the sexy nurse suggested that you come over to her place and she'll nurse you back to health)!

Hi from Gimpy

I have not been too active lately. My back has been hurting worse. There are two kinds of popular drivers. 1. some one with a pickup, and 2. someone with a handycap sticker. I am the later.
Today my Doctor is trying some kind of "nerve" pill to see if the pain in my back can be calmed down.
Before any of you think this is some sort of plee for simpethy, IT IS NOT!!!
As I tell people, "I just have a broken back, some people are parolized". or "it's just pain, it's not cancer". I pray for all those who have it worse than me.

My Favorite Christmas Songs

Christmas time is the best time of the year for me! And Christmas music is my favorite of all music! A side from the conventional/ traditional Christmas music, I have a list of music that really gets me into the Christmas Spirit:

1. "All alone on Christmas" by Darlene Love
2. "Step into Christmas" by Elton John
3. "Father Christmas" by Greg Lake (this song sends chills up and down my spine)
4. "Christmas time" by Bryan Adams

Home Sweet Home

Harmon Village-Quonset Huts

Some of us, when we first arrived on Guam, moved to Harmon village. You know, moved into one of those Quonset Huts that was a former WWII military barracks before upgrading our residence to Dean's Circle. I remember my brothers & I would venture into the boonies and find unoccupied Quonset Huts covered with jungle and petrified sand bags surrounding them. We would explore the interiors of these huts, and often find some relict's left behind from WWII Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen or Marines (perhaps even Coastguards men?).

I wonder if any of these Quonset Huts are still there? Last I looked on Google Earth, the Huts are not visible, but the roads look like they are still there...but becoming very overgrown by vegetation.

Who's house is this?

A fine place to swim...

Passport To Adventure

I have TiVo and had programed it to record any show with Guam in it. My local PBS station has started showing the Passport To Adventure Series with the one about Guam and it recorded today. I just watched a few minutes of it, it was cool to hear Johnny's music on it...will save it for when I have some time to relax and really enjoy watching it.

Subaru

We are expecting a massive snow storm in New York tomorrow. Can't wait to try out our Subaru Forester in the 8" to 10" inches of snow we are expecting to get! We got the Subaru last year. Only drove it once in snow, to the super market, last winter. When my wife came out of the super market looking for me and the car, she found that I had driven the Forester to the top of a big snow mountain in the parking lot. She asked why I didn't just park it in a cleared parking space like a normal person. I told her that I didn't have too, (with a big grin)!

I only bring this up, because I remember just before Mat Kalb left for the Army, I went with him to a Subaru dealer in Guam. Mat was considerings buying a Subaru for his Mom while he was in the Army. (Mat did you ever get her the car?). From then on I always asumed that Subaru's were great vehicles. Now I own one, I'll let you all know how it preforms after tomorows winter storm!

The 'Pathway down to Pago Bay'

There was a pathway behind some ones house that lead to Pago Bay. I remember taking it often with friends, but also more often alone when I skipped screw-all (school). I often ventured off the pathway to explore. I found some interesting stuff, like WWII ammunition and creepy creatures. Hmmm, just a memory that I just remembered!

Bus Stop

I have noticed recently where I live in New York, 'bus stops', similar to the one we had at Dean's Circle, are popping up in most neighborhoods. (Now you are suppose to hear the music from the "Twilight Zone")!

A Quiver of One

Surfin Hawaii back in the early 80s.

The only board I have now, is my 1989 6'8" Ben Aipa, T&C tri-fin, which hasn't seen the ocean in a very long time. I'm not sure if it would even still float if I got on it today. Like heavy dude!

More of Dave's family

This one's for you Ric.
I would like to introduce my wife Sarah and grand-daughter Jewel.

Jeff Jones - North Shore Oahu action

I met up with Jeff Jones (younger of the 2 Jones Boys) this past weekend, at his super beautiful home on Oahu's North Shore. Dang ! Jeff totally blew me away, being so tall ... he's 6'6" and quite the stud-meister. Also met his beautiful wife Kathy.
We will be meeting up again in April 2008 with his brother Robert Jones, who'll be here from Florida. Hopefully we'll be able to all tow into some incredible waves that won't chew us up too much....a little, but not too much. The swells should still be around in April.

It was really the best feeling to see Jeff again, after 33 years. Sunset Point was quite the spot, as was Ted's Bakery ... the place for some coconut pastries !

Jeff, thanks for being so cool....as you always were. I missed hangin' with you Brah!

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...

Does anyone remember Dr. Chestnut or his wife who was a nurse?Did they have children? Are they still alive? I want to know because they saved me when I was about 11 mos. old. I always wondered where they were and I'd love to give them a call if possible:)

Home From The War

My stepson got back to the States yesterday afternoon after being deployed to Iraq for the last 15 months. I'm so relieved that he is safe, but I'm sure changed in many ways. Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes. His dad and sister are flying to Texas this am to spend the weekend with him. I'll get to see him when he and his family come to Florida for Christmas in a couple of weeks.
