Clay, I have many Yap pictures also. I was there for one year, 1977 to 1978. Lots of topless pictures. Like you said, national geographic moments. The yapese people are some of the most friendly and hospitable islanders I have ever met. They gave me a wife, land, and the keys to the village.
I really enjoyed all these pictures. I was also in Yap around 1972. My Dad was a consultant with Mobil oil and we made a trip through Micronesia. (Ben and I hung out mainly with the photographers on that trip)I have no photos of that time, all of my pictures before 84 were with my mother and she mentioned that she had to toss out a lot after everything was water damaged.(Paka). I really thought the pictures of my early days and friends were lost for ever. It is great that you all were able to preserve the past. I also was at that house with the stone money around it and remember the girls running around in grass skirts,Ben must have been in paradise. I remember the Yap hotel four rooms to a bathroom, and the canned ham with the coagulating fat all over it.( can goods were a real treat on those Islands back then).
It is funny,I went on a day trip to truck, we were there to dive sove wrecks. Being 15 I was in heaven. The funny thing (as I asume in Yap), is the women did not show thier thighs, and all the women in our group wore bikini's. The local men fallowed them around drooling. I enjoied it all, the dive too. Exept that was my first close encounter with a tiger shark in merky water.
Tahiti still has a lot of young women who go about topless. Yepper. I like visiting Tahiti.
I always wanted to visit Yap! But my wife who holds my credit cards, passport and gonads...said..."no way"!
