Congress cancels the F-22 Raptor

And buys more luxo-jets to fly their members around instead. They have ordered five new jets, including two top-of-the-line Gulfstreams at a cost of 560 million dollars.

Last summer they publicly castigated auto CEO's for not flying commercial, but apparently they are special. The Air Force, who maintains the fleet and flies them around, said they didn't need the new jets.

Well correct me if I'm wrong but it was the Pentagon that said that they did not need the F-22.
As far as the Gulfstreams for Congress it's just more of the same.
I do believe the request for the new jets was co-sponsored by the Republican senator from Georgia, where the Gulfstream plant is located that will build the jets.
Nice aircraft though. Capable of non stop flight from Washington to Beijing.

The F22 isn't the only thing that got scrubbed from the defense program.. advanced missle defense systems are on the chopping block also. Makes me wonder who is actually 'running' the pentagon.

Here's an interesting point. The F-22 has NEVER seen combat.
