The Rock

Need to start a blog about the Rock. What a cool place to hang out.
I remember Desi having her birthday party down there and after that Mr. Perdew didn't let any of his kids go down there anymore.

I used to go down there almost every day after school in the 6th grade - alone.
Dave had the right term , "chumming". You'd see sharks almost every day. If you ate human sewage every day, a young child would be a fine morsel.
I remember one evening climbing back up the cliff, on the trail, dark spooky with the hermit crabs clinking about. Suddenly AAAAHHH, Dave jumped out and scared me to death. He was sent to look for me. I guess I was down there too long.
Honestly, I wouldn't let my little kids swim there, especially alone.

Dan, I called it "tooth rock" in an earlier comment. I loved the rock. Jumpin off ether into the channel or into the waves. where it broke into the coral you had to be carfull or get hurt. I got hurt alot.
The end of the channel we would hunker down when the waves hit, they would push you in a little bit more.
Remember the cave on the way, you had to crawl up the cliff, then it would go down to about eye level. and the coconut crabs were huge, and would crawl around in the cave.
Later another set of 3 rocks fell to the south of tooth rock and formed a pool.

yes,
ive written about the rock before, and doug did too. If you could climb it, you had to catch the wave in time to jump. I climbed it, but was too chicken to jump and everyone eventually talked me down. what daredevils we were! Imagine we're still alive.

Oh, I love that rock. If I ever get back to Guam, I'm making a b-line for Pago Bay. I remember seeing sharks. The cutting my feet on the reef walking over to it. That's a pretty special spot. :-) Hmmm...Maybe we can "google-earth" it!

Dan, we were nuts back then. I remember standing on the "Rock", then jumping off into the drink. It was so much fun back then, and I may even try it now. But no kid of mine would do that (I hope)! Those were the days my friend!

Having two your daughters now, I shudder to think that there might be something like "the rock" up here in NH. We used to go there with no supervision and jump of this rock into a pretty small crack in the coral. As I remember it, we had to time the jump just right to land in the crest of a wave.

Perhaps we remember everything larger than life, but - didn't the rock also "rock" with the waves and actually move?

The Rock was a big part of my life there too..Dave,Robert, Ben, Juliet, Paul, we all hung out there, consuming tons of beer, and much more..I can remember getting slammed into the dang thing, unable to climb up, just to jump..I'd go there in a heartbeat..A great place to sun, too!!

One time when I wss a teenager,Dean and his surfing buddies and my girlfriend Nenita decided on a great way to get on the rock. There were huge waves and we swam into them, went on the backside then when a big one rolled in we all were supposed to grab on as it rolled over. I was the only one still clinging on like a crab. Everyone else was sucked under into a cavern.Everyone made it and we never did that again:)

Damn Joanna, that's a wicked story. We're lucky to stikk have you here.

It's interesting that the "little ones" did some of the same crazy stuff the older kids did. Ever go swimming in the water tower?

The Rock probably one of the reasons my knees are bad today missed the timing on some waves. Even remember some group skinny dipping there young and old no shame pat i saw you say earlier that you had your bikini on and i do agree you did have it on for a little while.

I google earth'd it, its still there.
I reemember, 5th grade, DRL and I swimming in that little sandy (Diving) area inland of the rock. The surf was getting a little choppy when a huge wave smashed into us pushing us up on the rocks and then dragging us back out and under the rock. I was able to grab a rock and hold on DRL grabbed my arm with the first and only Death grip I have ever felt.We called it a day after that.
As we walked home, we both agreed I saved your life, who knows...

I called it a earthquake simulator. It did "Rock" when a large swell would roll in.
One day Renee and I were hangin out on top of the rock when two girls and a guy from the circle showed up and were skinny dippin,(no names). I was commenting on thier aquatic attributes when one of them gave me the bird. So I signald back. Meanwhile two guamanian guys were sneaking around the shoreline trying to get an eye full, and saw my signal. When we were walking back to the lab, these two came out of the jungle and blamed the other guy for flippin them off. Ther was a skuffle, and Roxanne (she was there) picked up this huge rock and almost smashed one of the guamanian guys in the head. They backed off.
I thought WoW, Roxanne is tough!! Not afraid to kick butt.
Oh the Memories...

Yes we did go into the water tower but, the very thought of someone closing the door scared the fun right out of me. I was with Renee and friends. We did hang out on the top of it. That was O.K. with me. No doors.
