The debate debate

Despite all the hoopla leading up to last night, I found the moderator to be fair and balanced with both candidates. The only 'tell' was at the very end when bidding farewell - Biden was praised with "you did a great job" while Palin was not.

Joe Biden was obviously more experienced in this arena and this showed. He didn't make any major gaffs (his REAL achilles heel) except for when he referred the "the Bosniacs".

Sarah Palin held her own. While perhaps not as polished, she was prepared and up to the task.

One thing that really irks me is how our legislative branch functions these days. Some of these monstrous bills end up with so many (conflicting) positions that it is always easy to say "McCain voted to not fund the troops" or "Obama voted to raise taxes". We don't see many focused legislation that addresses one particular thing. Rather, they always include compromises that have no relation to the purpose of the bill in the first place. Look at all the pork in the bailout bill. (wooden arrows? industry in American Samoa? mental health care?). It makes it much more difficult to gauge candidates based on their voting records (perhaps this is the point).

Let's not forget the continuance of the Puerto Rican rum tax exemption. Heady stuff this business of the people.

Yea I agree that the debate went well. I'd be the first to admit that Biden did a bang up job. And Palin held her own. It was kind of boring though with no heated exchanges. That being said I still don't like Biden or Obama. And who really believes Biden hangs out at Home Depot or the gas station.
