Patula Clark

I am a music lover. Love, just love the oldies...especially! Some of my favorite songs of the day were ..."Downtown", "I know a place", "A sign of the times" & "Don't sleep in the subway". I was unaware that all of these were from the same musical artist. When I found out they were, I special ordered the CD , "Ultimate Petula Clark".

When I received the CD and looked at the CD photo cover, I yelled out a big 'screech' after looking at her mug & body (like one seeing a mice running across the kitchen floor and jumping on the oven). Always had a mental image of this lady behind these songs (brunet, firm, olive skin and hot). Petula Clark is a Blondie, near albino and very skinny.

Well now, I am a brunet chick love'n guy, but also a dude liking a blond chicks after listening to her music and looking at her photos.

I know what I am writing has zero/no substance, I am just sharing what is on my mind, like I would have done at the 'bus stop' at the moment, that's all.

"Killing Me Softly" by Roberta Flack. Never fails to remind me of the island.

Ric, don't feel bad, you are not alone with these kinds of thoughts and I think it takes balls to be willing to share what is on your mind. Even if your personal revelations are meaningless to the rest of us. You have inspired me. Next time I have an apiphany (sp?) and it is as meaningless as yours was, I will share it with you and the rest of the gang. :) You know I love ya don't ya?

Anonymous said...

Gee, now I feel guilty.

DRL said...

juls, if you think you have an apiphany you might want to get it checked out by a doctor. lol!

Anonymous said...

Sure DRL, I will do that!

DRL said...

I love random thought. Things go through my brain that makes no sence to anyone, including myself. My mind is an apiphany of its own.
The thing I do not like is when someones random thought is ment to insult or degrade someone or a group. If you search "sabbatical" on our blog, you will see where some preachers "that I do not agree with in as much as the Word of GOD is free, and not for sale". If you can pull one thing out of what they said that in not Biblical, I would love to discuss it civilly, but to call them an asshole is more than uncalled for. I noticed too that you didnot call Rev. write an asswhole. He has said more degrading and reprihensible things against America than you could ever find of the 3 you mentioned. And this was the spirituall leader and good friend of a man running for president. I also noticed that every (without exception) comment about his was in support of what he said. That left me out alone.
I have not posted much on since then, because when I talk about what others may disagree with it gets over emotional.

But please bring on as much random thought as possible

DRL said...

Ric, you did a good job with this this, I like random thought and mine was not random, and didn't mean to rain on your paride. you did good, its just me. Talk to me later.

DRL said...

Oh, by the way Pet (Petula to the rest of you) still loves me and dedicates all her songs to me.

DRL said...

Like Juls said, bring the music

pat said...

only one of favorite Guam bring back memories song.."you're so vain", carly simon.

pat said...

Doug, ps, I so agree with killing me softly too. God are we showing our age??

Doug said...

Well I won't get emotional and my intent is not to offend and if I have please accept my apology.

However...
Pat Robertson-referred to Episcopalians, Presbyterians and Methodists as spirits of Antichrist.
Repeatedly supported former Liberian Dictator Charles Taylor on his nationally syndicated 700 Club calling him a champion of Christian democracy while failing to mention his $800,000 investment in a Liberian gold mine manned by slave labor. Taylor provided safe harbor to Al Qada members responsible for the bombing of the US Embassy in Kenya.
With former Israel prime minister Ariel Sharon in ICU from a severe stroke Robertson referred to his stroke as retribution from God for his drive to give land to the Palestinians in a US brokered peace deal.
Has recently called for a CIA /US assassination of Hugo Chavez. Well okay maybe that's not such a bad idea but whatever.

John Hagee
referred to Catholocism as the "great whore".
referred to the Holocaust as part of Gods divine plan to lead the Jews to Israel

Jerry Falwell
referred to teletubbies as role modeling the gay lifestyle. After that it's really hard to take anything he says seriously but it can't go unmentioned that he credited the 9/11 terrorist attack on the twin towers as Gods punishment for the US fomenting such a hedonistic lifestyle. God let it happen because he was angry with us.

Rev Wrights comments, while reprehensible were taken largely from two sermons. I will make no attempt to defend them as I believe them to be indefensible. The opinions of all these so called men of God belie an intolerance of others and an indifference to the fundamental Christian tenet of love of neighbor.

Civil enough for you?

I got to hand it to you Doug, sounds like you have done your homework. I don't remember now what started the discussion now but I think the list of religious figures mentioned are full of the kind of misguided, moral elitist that give Christians a very bad name. I for one don't find myself comfortable in most churches because of the exclusionary practices and the touting of self righteousness, label making, political blame throwing and the like. I suppose these figures think it is there calling to "enlighten" us however I can't honestly feel that God has ordained those mass made statements that divide believers and alienate so many. I feel deeply sickened by them and saddened and embarrassed by them.

Anonymous said...

Oh, I know that Patula Clark would agree with me.

DRL said...

Well Doug, no. I am a theologin.
Pat Robertson is a conservitive Christian. Thant means that liberal churches do have the spirit of antichrist. Please know that there are two types of "antichrist" in the bible. The first and most popular is the person in Revelations. The second is the "spirit fo antichrist", which is also translated as "Suto Christ", or in place of Christ. that is the referance he made. You as well most the world does not agree with him, but that does not make him an asshole. He is a millionare. he did not make his millions off the 700 club, infact it financed the 700 club for a long time. The gold mine was a mistake, and I agree with that the gold mine was a mistake of the greatest proportion. But remember rev. write honored Lybias Mormar Kodafi who is a known terrorist and has killed many Americans, and when I was in the Navy, he was killing service men and women in public places. Rev. write also encorces Nation of islam's Louis Farican (spelling???, as in all my names), who is a racist, and has called for the elimination of Isreal.
Many including me was upset and still is for Clintons plan to give land to the palastinians, who never had the land to begin with. Land was given back by the Israle's that was there land. I think that appiesing terrorists is a stupid way to do things. look, have the palasinians calmed donw, no. The word "palatine" was derived from the Romans after the 70 a.d. revolt. It was an insult by the romans to the Jews. Palisinians (aka Filistines) were wiped off the face of the earth thousands of years ago. These palastinitns have no right to any land. Isriel has been terroized by these people for many years. Do I think Ariel Sharon's strokes were retrebution by God, no. I believe strokes are caused by an arterial block. I do believe that Hugo Chavez is an evil man. I do not believ Roberts has any pull with the CIA.
Hagee has said many stupid things. As one who studies the Bible, I find the things he sais as stupid and sometimes funny. I hold very little he sais serious. There has been a continous clash between the Roman Catholic church and the Prodistent churc. The funny thing is both are Catholic churches. "Catholic" means universal, and that is why it is the "Roman Catholic" church. So both prodistents and Roman chatholic are practicing "Catholocism". He dosn't know what he is talking about, or he is calling himself a whore, thats funny in itself, lol. As far as the Holocaust goes, through out the Bible, God used Ruthles rulers to monipulate the Isrielites. From the Babolonians, to the Aserians, to the Romans. To say that Hitler was one of them is not Biblical, and I would take it as no more than the ramblings of a mad man, but once again, not an asshole.
Jerry Farwell, let me start with...Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Okay now, it is true that purple is the color and the inverted triangle is a symble for the homosexual comunity. The "indoctrination" starts at younger and younger ages. "Susie has two momies" or whatever it was called, prime time shows on tv are having more of it, and for Farwell to be worried it his right. As far as the 9/11 attacks being blamed, let me refer back to my original comment, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. They are the ramblings of a mad man, but not an asshole.
Rev writs comments are reprhesible and wre from many years of sermons. Not every sunday, but what he believes and preaches, and Obama believes too, he must he sat through the sermons and was a good friend. But still not an asshole. Hitler is an asshole, Osama Binladin is an asshole, many in this world and who were in the world were assholes, but I do not put any including Rev. Write, Obama, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, or the religous cooks mentioned above in the catagory of asshole.

DRL said...

Juls, it is Petula, and she might agree with you, but loves me, ha

I have always believed that the very thing that preachers shout out the most about are the very "sins" or weaknesses they personally posses and become their own personal downfall. Remember Falwell when he had that affair? What about the preacher in denver caught with a male prositute? Give me a break.

Oh yeah, Patula loves DRL, DRL likes them blond, Ric likes them dark haired with olive skin.

But what does Patula like?

Ric Larson said...

Juls, I love blonds too! My first wife was blonde.

It's just since I was a kid I always had a mental image/picture of Petula, maybe because I was living in the islands at the time. I for years had an imaginary crush on her. When I saw her mug on the CD, my heart was broken and I FREAKED OUT! Then I cried! I soon got over it and enjoyed her CD!

Juls, blondes are just has beautiful! ;)

Doug said...

DRL,
i do regret your taking offense at my remarks from that thread back in May. You should have said something and we could have cleared the air sooner.
We clearly have different standards as to what constitutes an asshole. You seem to reserve that label for the most heinous wastes of human flesh that have ever befouled the planet. I on the other hand happen to think that we are quite literally surrounded by assholes just about everywhere we go. From the self absorbed loud cell phone talker to the wanker that puts 20 items down in the 10 items or less lane and pays with a check when it's cash only to the guy that cuts you off in traffic to the people that think they are better than others because they make more or have more to people that lie/cheat/ steal just to get ahead to those that tell us what we should think to those that abuse children & the elderly and the defenseless and on and on. Assholes. All of them. Now to be sure given my more liberal definition there are varying degrees of assholiness. Therein I suspect lies the source of how I offended you in my previous post and again that was not my intent and I do regret it. I tend to tread lightly when it comes to one's religious beliefs because matters such as this can be deeply personal and are rife with the potential for grievously injured feelings. Try as I might I still fail to do that at times and again for that you have my sincere apology.

Doug, ooooo, sorry, i was trying to also be light hearted, just like you said, when the word is used as an adjetive(Pat, I cant spell ether) rather than a noun(I think I got that one right, spelling) it will by defenition have varying degrees of meaning. I however would hate to have a world where we all agreed, and like I said if we can discuss such things without words that will be taken as insultive (may not exist), I love to have a lively debate or descusion, I just tried not to have it when I was insulted by not just the word, but the side of the specturm (conservitive) that you chose.

More great discusions ahead, and blease dont tip toe through the tulips, the envirometolists will chew your ass, haaaaaa. okay bad timeing. lol

Pat, the song 'Your So Vain' by Carly Simmon also has good memories for me from Guam. When we were living at Harmon Village prior to moving to the 'Circle', we use to go to the Roller Skating Rink, and that song was played over and over again. Memories again! Love it!

Carly Simon attempted to make a come back back in '94 or '95 or '96by play a free concert at 'Grand Central Station'. Heard about it in advance and went to see/hear her sing. She was awesome! But her come back attempt failed. To bad for her. :(

And I never knew that the song 'Your so vain' was writen by her about an actor she dated?

I do so love a good discuurse, and that is one of my faults. I know it is a good descusion if it brings Robert out of the wood work, or is it cyberspace, hum, where ever he has been. Where as it was not my intention, good to see you again.

The one downside to an open and lively conversation is when emotion takes over intellect. I have learned that when my emotion controls a conversation, I nolonger am trying to make a point, but rather am defending, without proper grounds, my position. The first indication of such a thing is "name calling". "Profanity is the use of language for a small mind". Not saying that anyone (with me as the exception) is stupid. Rush Limbaugh has a childish nick name for anyone he does not like. He is extremely inteligent, but can't find it in himself to use there real name. So it is I who appolgize for alowing "asshole" to bother me. I look forward to many good lively debates in the future, and would hope that we(I) can contribute without insulting or being insulted by others ideas or values. Please don't anyone in the futre feel afraid to jump in with any contribution. I know as conservitive as I am generaly sit alone, but do value event the most polorized views.

juliet, see you are just what i was talking about. You reading that I was conservitive called me an "a hole". I disagree with you on just about every aspect of life, but would never stoop to call you a name. You make my point.

DRL said...

Juleits comment is why i have a hard time with good conversation. Why call me a demeaning and degrading name. Why should I converse with someone whe thinks that of me. I am honest and honorable in my discusions, and have not intentionaly degraded anyone. I have been upset, and never lowered myself to juliets level. Because of her and others who find no fault in degrading someone they disagree with that i may not converse on any subject i disagree with. thank you Juliet for cearing things up.

juliet said...

What can I say "the devil made me do it".
Doug my brother and sister are living on Guam. Claudia is still as energetic as ever and after retiring from the Community College teaching Bio and Chem she went over to the University and is a councilor. She has over the years developed the annual Science Fair into a wonderful event that all the schools participate in and is a successful grant writer. She is still fighting the fight. Her oldest son graduated from SFS and is heading off to law school with his fiance who was valedictorian in Dec. Her oldest daughter is in Med school on the east coast and has a brilliant little eight year old still at home.

Now Ben's step-daughter is heading off to Hawaii for University and I think they were just there getting her settled in. He might still be dropping off the side of the Rock but not the earth. He keeps busy as a boat captain in the tourist industry and is a good husband and father to his young autistic son. I don't think he is into computers much, I have never communicated with him by email. I left home in 1984 and don't think I had a phone call or letter from him in all those years but I know where he lives and keep up with him through my mother and sometimes during major holidays I get him on the phone. He lives down the road from my mother so I get regular up dates and I talk with her at the least twice a week. He is easy to find you just drop by his house or the boats. He has an incredible intelligent whit and should have made a career as a comedian. We could use some humor here but I think he has no time to play on the blog.

juliet said...

What is that defining sound ??? I think it is Drl's goodness medals clanking on his chest again. Dave what does it mean when you say you are a conservative? Some conservatives believe women shouldn't have combat positions. Are you anti-intellectualism? Do you not believe in affirmative action, equality and the rights of homosexuals?. Do you believe that sex ed shouldn't be taught in schools and birth control made available to everyone. What exactly does it mean when you label yourselves conservative? Does it mean that you believe the government shouldn't have taxes and that social programs and service shouldn't be provided by the government. Are you for or against socialized medicine. Do you really believe in no sex before marriage. No abortion, no stem cell research. What does it mean " I am a conservative". I can't imagine that you really embrace the narrow end of social, economic and political conservatism.

mat said...

OK already. This post must hold the record on the blog for number of comments. Let me weigh in and keep it alive. To answer Juliet, to be conservative simply means to be level headed. Conservatives tend to operate on common sense instead of emotion. I don't think the government should run health care or pretty much anything else (whens the last time you went to register your car) yep thats the government at work. Equal rights and protection for homosexuals hmm
let me see, doesn't it say somewhere in the constitution that all men are created equal? Yes I'm sure I read that somewhere. As far as sex and all that other stuff what you're talking about is the christian right. Not to be confused with conservatism. You can be a conservative but not a bible thumper. Just like you can be a democrat but not a liberal. See it's easy. Common sense. I think every one of us on this blog want the best for our kids and because of our unique upbringing and our time spent in the circle we are probably a lot more forgiving of the transgressions of our offspring (I know I am). My politics are very important and personal to me and I vote how I vote and Juliet might be surprised to know how I vote sometimes as well as my conservative bretheren.
I love ya Juliet sure wish you were coming to Vegas baby!

Doug said...

So...if you're political tendencies tend toward the liberal you are less likely to use common sense?

mat said...

No Doug, Liberalism is about letting emotions overcome common sense. Probably the best example that I can give is the Colorado senate just passed a bill and our Gov. signed making it unlawful to discriminate against transgendered persons from using public womens restrooms. Thats liberalism. Think about it. How would you like your wife or daughter to be in the restroom doing their buisness and in walks this guy. You can't make him leave because he has a right to be in there. You beat his ass and you get prosecuted for a hate crime. See how liberalism works. Like I said I think all( as Dave so eloquently described us) us circle rats tend to have at least some liberal tendancies but we have to keep common sense at the front of the line and stay grounded. End of rant, Peace Out!

DRL said...

Juliet, Matt said it in a good way.
I am curious however, why is it the "open minded" liberal that is prone to name calling. We know as children, that the only reason to resort to name calling is to try to hurt someone. It does not hurt me, but I am curious as to why a "bleeding heart" would?
It too suprises me how you as an "open minded" person agrees only if the ideals of someone else agrees with your ideals.
I should be honored that you would think that I have "goodness" medals. However, I believe what the Bible says. "Even our righteousness is like filthy rags". I will not exhault myself to a gighteous or goodness level. I believe that any good we do, should not be held up for others to see. That is why only I and Dave know who has given to the Help fund. Dave only knows to hold me accountable.
Let me ask you, who was the only POW that has been openly shown in the media. Yes a female. The Russians and Isralian millitary have quit putting women in the front line. Men would stop and help an injured women instead of fighting, women get pregnant on the front lines, and physical strength. When I was in the military, 2 men were on a stretcher bearer team. 100 percent of men passed the test to become one. Only 30 percent of women did. So now there are 4 person team. Half as many teams, and many places strechers can only be carried throu without people on the sides, hence back to the 2 man team.
Anti intullectualism?????? Where did that come from? I have said many times I enjoy a lively and indepth conversation, as long as it does not get personly insultive, which you have. Intulect stops when personal attack starts. I hope you would agree.
No to affermitive action, it is simply reverse prejedice. Why should someone less qualified get a position that someone more qualified should have. It is funny you mention homosexual's. A fundametalist Christian tried to get a job at a gay bar, and was denied. The court sayd the gay bar had rights not to hire him. While a christian club in Massachusetts was forced to have a homosexuall placed as an officer in the club. The only people prosicutted under the RECO statuet besides mobsters was christians. I have several gay friends, and I have never put them down in any way. One I am an accountability partner for. If I am asked, I do tell them what the Bible says about it as a sin, but I do not and have not forced my belief on them. You how ever do.
No, I believe that sexual education is to be taught at home. If sex ed is going to be taught, then it should be abstinence is what should be taught. No, I believe that birth control is only for consenting adults, and not to be handed out at schools. Any time birth control is handed out, it is done so as permision to have sex, without exception. For a school to give my child permision to have sex is wrong and pervese. If child porn is wrong, why is child permision okay????
I believe in the goverment, but not socialism. Remember Hitler was a socialist. "Nazi" translated is "Sociolist". I believe in a safety net and a hand up. The socialist programs we have are entitalmets to people who want to live freely off the goverment. There is no shame in poverty anymore. People stay on goverment entilelments for entire lifetimes, and are passed on to generatins. That is wrong. I pay alot of taxs for people to be lazy. I still watch people buy steak with food stamps. Then buy beer, wine and cigeretts with cash. Something is wrong with this picture. Private hospital's have gone bankrupt because of entitelmets, and the goverment telling them they have to work for free.
I believe the goverment is to serve and protect the people. We need police, stree workors, sanitation, etc...., we need a social system to help people get on therer feet. We need free education available to all. but every system of the goverment is too big and has no accoutability to the tax payers. Socialized medicine, no. I believe people have the right to chose who will serve there medical needs. There is medicare, medicade, ssi and other social medical services now. The mith of paying for food or medicine is over played. Even for those not under a social program, pharmaceutiacal companies will eat the deductibal (if ensured) or give the medication free to indigent patiants. Just talk to your doctor. I was offered such a program, but i pay my own deductible. someday I will accept it, but not now. Tort reform will also help. I could have sued for the doctor and hospital miss diagnosing my back injury. I did not, because it was a mistake and not negligance, but lawers still told me the millions I could have gone for. Why?
Yes, I believe in abstonance before marriage. Because I believe in it, dosent mean you have to. It is what my children are taught. They have both been throug "True love waits" program, and my wife and I have sat down with both and talked about the reasons to wait. We have talked about how nice and intimate sex is between two people. How sex can be the best feeling people can have. We have not made it to be a taboo, or secret thing. But a great thing worth waiting for.
Abortion, I am totaly against killing an unborn child. Why use the death of a child as birth control. If the mothers life is in danger, it is usually in the 3rd trimester, when the child can be delivered csection, as quick as 4 minutes. Why take the life of a child. The child has its own DNA as soon as conception take place. The child makes its own amniotic sack, and fluid, as well the placenta. The mothers blood and childs blood never touch. No, I do not think killing the child on the mothers bad choice or whim is correct or ethical. However, that said, it is not illegal, so I will do nothing other than answer questons on it.
Stem cell research is the most misunderstood debatable subjuect used for showing compation that I know. I do not know anyone who is against stem cell research. Stem cell is the only way know to cure cancer. But it is adult stem cell that can cure Leukemia, not stem cells from the fetus(root word of fetus is latin for ofspring. So if you are for killing a fetus, then you are for killing the ofspring of someone). It is killing a child for "Fetal" stem cell research that most people object to. As I have said, adult stem cell is proven to work, so lets stick to what works rather than kill the unborn to hope.
What does it mean for me to be conservative, "to live with the hatefull words of those who's values are different than mine". You may use insulting and hatefull speach because right to free speach. Use it as you feel fit. Just remember as the Bible says, the words that come out of your mount can not be put back in.

Matt, I loved what you said. And although DRL's more "conservative" than I am, I agree with most of the "LIBERTARIAN" party stands for (not liberal party) Small government with less tax dollars used for social programs. Personal responsability.

This has been good intellectual banter. Exept I have to agree with DRL, although I think and feel negative derogatory things towards others I would never use this blog to tell someone here was an A-hole. After all, regardless of who you are on this blog, you are all my friends and I love you.

And no, I am not a bleeding heart, just a rational one.

Drl, I googled the topic American conservatism and got the points from wikipedia. I really wasn't sure what a conservative label meant and so I wanted to know what others thought when they label themselves a Conservative particularly Dave since I spent more time with him when we were younger. You have a lot of labels for me that are not support by anything I have written. I did not express any opinions on the points I listed in my question to Dave. Unless you feel that just bringing up the points labels me a liberal or a bleeding heart. You said I called you an a-hole but I did not, Should I do so, have no fear I will state it directly. Rac made a comment about the definition of a-hole and I made a follow up to his not to you. You just assumed something and ranted with it. Not sure where you were going with the secret donation thing for the Vegas trip. I didn't contribute. I said from the beginning I was not going but had I committed I would have payed for the room if I canceled. If that is the case I hope those that committed to rooms pay up. I hope you don't get stuck with the hotel room costs for the unoccupied rooms. You might try negotiating with the hotel to avoid those penalty costs since most of the rooms were filled they may give you a break and it can't hurt to try. Any way this song is getting stale man.

My points of view lean towards what DRL and what Mat have said.
It is always intresting to hear both points of view though.

...and your point of view too JULS, smaller goverment and less taxes!

A side note: Working in the human services, a misconception is that people think the majority of us are liberals. But after a few years working in the field and one sees where the taxe dallors are going, you tend to lean towards conservitism in a very short period of time.

oh, did I mention that Petula still loves me?

I think if you want something done right, don't ask the government to do it. Red tape, bureaucracy and waste is how the government works. Completion makes prices go down and quality go up. Regulation should be a minimum but should still exist.

I think when someone says anything blanketed like conservatives = A hole or liberals = bleeding hearts may be exactly how a person feels but lets remember we are friends here. I think keeping the discussion smart and not insulting should be our goal. Unless we want to send the message out to others that we are a bunch of baby's flinging poop out of our diapers at each other. But, then again maybe that is what we want to do. Maybe the attitude should be, if you can't stand the smell of poop, stay out of the nursery.

Wow, I thought I was going to be reading about how passionately you all felt about Petula Clark when I saw there were 71 comments. Becki and I are a good example of how people with opposite views can still stay friends after many years. Last night I called her and told her I had been to an Obama campaign organization meeting and that I was going to get involved and volunteer. She wanted to know if we sang Kumbaya and had a group hug..lol. I said ya, something like that. Just a warning, I'm probably going to wear my "Obama mamma" tee in Vegas just to annoy her.

Cindy, you can do that! This is America! Wear that tee-shirt! In no other counrty but ours can one express there political views with out being shot or hung!

Ric, back to your verrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyy previous post.I read an article in the religion section of our local paper, this preacher said it's actually therapeutic to cuss at times. God hears you, but doesn't necessarily condem you. I admit, my favorite and frequently used word is the F word. Gee I wonder why my 15 yr old uses it.

did I mention that petula still dreams about me???

I hear you Pat. On line I may use things like F%$#* and so on, but when verbally speaking I never cuss anymore, I don't find it colorfull anymore. But I guess I am a hypocrite since I symbalize cursing on line some times. Sorry!
