"remember me..."

Cool video. Apparently posted by a 15-year-old.

Fun with Economics

In so much as we are near the end of the second quarter '08 I thought for all of my dear friends from back in the day I would share with you these topical and timely Stock/Bond market tidbits for your edification and entertainment. I offer these without comment and strongly encourage you to get your advice as to how best to manage your portfolio in the near future from a trusted, UNBIASED advisor. In other words someone other than me. This isn't super secret stuff here. Wall Street Blue Chips are off by a full 4% Thursday and Friday as the smart money already knows what's coming.
An unprecedented 700+ Bonds and Bond funds are going to move from recommended buys to recommended sells. These run anywhere from B- to AAA rated. Bond insurers are anticipating 2 Billion in near term losses.
30 day Home mortgage delinquinciees are up 10.1%, 60 day delinquinces are up 20.2%. This is a number not seen since the 1930's. 7/1 sets another up tick in ARM's
It's quite possible that as many as 2,000 US Banks will become insolvent due to the ongoing Real Estate credit crisis. Even the national stalwart Bank Of America is floundering due to write offs from bad debt.
The previous crisis of 60 days or so ago was headed off by Fed intervention and international buying of US currency to shore up the dollar. It's unlikely that this will be possible again as the Fed has little to work with and our friends and allies are not in a position to buy more dollars as they also are feeling the effects of a worldwide slowdown. Not to mention they don't know what to do with the dollars they've already bought because they can't sell them without taking a steep loss. Thank God that oil is still traded in dollars because if it wasn't well...
So some of you might be saying well what can I do and how will this affect the price of a 12 pack and a pack of smokes. Like I said before heckifIknow. All I know is what I hear from those that I talk to daily, 26 years or so in the business I'm in where I talk to people from Connecticut to California and I have never seen such apprehension. We are either doing a heck of a job talking ourselves into a recession or we are going to be in interesting times. And wouldn't you know we just bought a new living room set.

The 4th approaches!

For the past 12 years, my wife and I have driven up to upstate New York to my brother-in-laws home to celebrate the 4th (Sam Sparks Birthday by the way). They do a 'circle of fire' thing, they live on a lake. Every one on the lake fires off fire works and mortors at midnight.

My brother-in-law gets the best of fire works around, because he can. On the first year I was up there celebrating, my brother-in-law and all of his friends were afraid of lighting the fire works. They are all Dentist, and afraid that a small unexpected explosion would ruin there carreies if there fingers got dismemberd. So I was asked to lite the fuses to the motors. Been my job ever since. My knick name is the 'Commander' (though I never held such a rank in the military, but was a Mortor Platoon Leader in the Army after a short stinch as an Infantry Platoon Leader). Looking forward to the fire works again this year!

How do you all celebrate the 4th?

Quitugua remembered: Family, friends mourn son of Guam killed in Iraq

This young man is a nephew of Chris Franquez (on our Blog as "tophersguam").

FROM THE PACIFIC DAILY NEWS:

Christopher Albert Quitugua was set to start a new stage in his life when his life ended in Iraq, said his father, Victor Quitugua.
The former Mangilao resident, who was working for a civilian security company, was killed in Iraq during a non-combat accident June 19, according to his family.
He was 28.
According to Christopher Quitugua's grandparents, Albert A. Quitugua and Maria C. Quitugua, their grandson and three others were in a vehicle in a convoy when a tire blowout caused the vehicle to flip.
He was working for a civilian company that protected military VIPs in Iraq.
"He is a very dedicated boy who had a lot of energy and was starting another phase of his life with his wife."
Christopher Quitugua was married in March.
He's the 26th son of Micronesia to be killed since the War on Terror began in 2001. More than 4,100 American service members have died in Iraq and Afghanistan in the war.
His grandparents said Quitugua grew up on Guam and attended George Washington High School, but moved to the U.S. mainland to join his father in Los Angeles to finish out his senior year.
Maria Quitugua said her grandson loved to cook and attended culinary school for two years.
"When he got tired of that, he told his dad he was going to join the Army," she said.

4 years in the ArmyQuitugua served four years in the Army. During his tour of duty, he went to both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Before leaving for Iraq, he was living in Miami with his father.
Maria Quitugua said she raised her grandson, so his death is especially difficult for her.
She said when her grandson was in middle school, he went to live with his parents in Arizona, but would call and ask to come back to Guam because he missed his grandmother and grandfather. She said he would call her and say, "Grandma, send me a ticket. I want to go to Guam. I don't like it here."
Maria Quitugua said it had been almost two years since she had seen her grandson. She spoke to him on Father's Day.
Christopher Quitugua was due to visit Guam this week.
Victor Quitugua said funeral arrangements for his son were still being made.
Gov. Felix Camacho expressed his condolences to the Quitugua family on Saturday. Delegate Madeleine Bordallo issued a statement yesterday.
"My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the late Christopher Quitugua, most especially to his wife, Cari, during this very difficult time," Bordallo said. "Christopher's service to our nation and our island will be honored and remembered always."

Almost time to say farewell....

No Summer in Alaska

While everyone is getting ready to go to Vegas (sorry, not this time for me) and dealing with desert heat (remember it's a "dry" heat), I'm still hoping that we will have some summer-like weather up here. So far only one day in the mid-60s. We're still dealing with spring-time allergies since the flowering bushes have only just started. Lilacs are still coming out! Please send some of that Vegas heat up to Alaska...Don't need the sunshine since we have about 19 hours of daylight at the moment.

Hae sun in Vegas...and I hope someone hits a jackpot on the slots.

Today there are still 3 rooms left, I have a contract with the Hotel to fill 10 rooms, I am trying to get it reduced to the 7 rooms we have filled. If anyone wants a room let me know before 4pm mountain time. I will loose my deposit, and don't want to be charged for the 3 rooms.

Part Of My Childhood Died Today

I was driving in to work this morning and I heard the news. George Carlin has passed away. How sad! I remember listening to his albums ad nauseum. He was only 71. I think a lot of what he had to say as a comedian rang true for me and probably a lot of kids my age. They say the 70's are pretty blase. I don't agree. the 70's had so much going on and George Carlin (as well as Cheech and Chong) were such a big part of it. He will be missed. Rest In Peace.

This ones for you Doug....

It just runs a chill up my spine...
I close my eyes and I'm there. At Cruz store with a Kool hanging from my lips, a clanging pin-ball machine in my hands and my best friends shooting a game of pool.
How romantic....

Patula Clark

I am a music lover. Love, just love the oldies...especially! Some of my favorite songs of the day were ..."Downtown", "I know a place", "A sign of the times" & "Don't sleep in the subway". I was unaware that all of these were from the same musical artist. When I found out they were, I special ordered the CD , "Ultimate Petula Clark".

When I received the CD and looked at the CD photo cover, I yelled out a big 'screech' after looking at her mug & body (like one seeing a mice running across the kitchen floor and jumping on the oven). Always had a mental image of this lady behind these songs (brunet, firm, olive skin and hot). Petula Clark is a Blondie, near albino and very skinny.

Well now, I am a brunet chick love'n guy, but also a dude liking a blond chicks after listening to her music and looking at her photos.

I know what I am writing has zero/no substance, I am just sharing what is on my mind, like I would have done at the 'bus stop' at the moment, that's all.

Hotel Reservations

Hi again,
Just me again. I am reminding about the rooms. We have a block of 10 rooms and 6 are taken. I know some are sharing a room, such as me and Cindy. No I mean Cindy and becki are and Sean and I are. Sharing the cost is good. I am just getting a little nervice, we have a week to get them filled up. I have a deposit on the block that I will get back when they fill up, so if you are intending to stay at the hotel, give them a call. Thanks, I don't want to be a bother, just trying to get them filled.
Also, if you will be staying early or later let me know, I can set weekday rooms aside as well.

Talk to me later, DRL

New Kid in Town...

Janet Tansy Christina Tansy

Did anybody notice that we have a new crewmember onboard? Another circle rat came out of hiding and is our link to the whole Quin family. Just kidding Matt, we who remember them loved your family dearly. Mary Jo was hot, and I still have a scar on my thumb from when Janet tried to bite it off. My brother Dan and Brian were good friends, and your Dad never cut any of us hoodlum-degenerate circle jerks any slack. You were situated right next to the Copelands, which in those days was prime real estate, with Barkey Barton as your back door neighbor and home of the midnight swimming hole. Please give your entire family our best regards and encourage them to sign on and sail with us, as we take this sentimental journey into the future. Write often and post every old Dean's Circle photo that you can muster. Thanks for googling DC.

Vegas Baby - Advance Reconoiter

I'm on the way to Las Vegas for a technical expo. I'll do some advanced scouting while I'm out here. I'd like to check on that Chamorro restaurant that was listed on the web.

Happy Fathers day to all you good Dads

I miss my Dad. He was so special and when I was a little girl I thought he was the most perfect man in the world. He and Mom seemed to spend their lives trying to send us all down the right path. (not that I always took that path), but I always knew the path to home and safety and love and they always picked me back up when I fell. happy fathers day Daddy.

Guam Mafia

Hey Dean's Circle peoples,

I think I already know the answer to this question, but I also know I'm usually wrong about such matters :)

A related group of folks with Guam brain damage to y'all is the Guam Mafia. Rod Duncan and I are members. The Guam Mafia are the Suttle, Hale, Duncan, Thomas, Gourley, and Farrow familes. There are some other wannabes, but these are the families who provide the Dons for the Mafia. Rod and I are second generation Dons. The Mafia actually pre-dates Guam with my dad, my name sake James R. Hale, and John Suttle working for the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratories in 1966 in Montana. For my 5th birthday at Flathead Lake near Kalispell, Montana Sara Lee Suttle gave me a scrap book with my picture on it announcing "Hi, I'm Jimmy Hale, and I tell a tall tale". Ain't nothing changed since then, man, look out :)

Actually, the old men may not have been working for the NWREL, the outfit they were working for on Guam. I think there's a college in Kalispell they had a gig at. But seems to me the Sandbergs, and a couple of the other families whose names escape me who did stints on Guam via the NWREL was there that summer. Oh ya, the Tylers, Joyce and Ed and their daughters, and the Sandberg boys, and the water skiing incident where they almost decapitated a fisherman. Hey, this isn't just one of my tall tales Sara Lee was warning y'all about, this actually happened. Them stupid dudes ended up spending some time, overnight I think, in the county clink. Rod would know nothing about it, it pre-dates the Duncan's admittance into the Mafia :)

Anyway, I'm majorily sidetracked as usual. My question for y'all is that the Guam Mafia is in desperate need of a Blog home. I can either start a separate blog or we can just kind of crowd in with y'all. We could start off with crowding in with y'all, and if that get's to be no good, the break off into our own blog. What do folks think? Seems to me rather than having 2 minorly busy blogs, why not have one semi busy blog. Some folks may get up tight and say "we should have a blog with our own name on it". Ya, whatever, do you name every new mole that shows up on your ass too? I mean get real?

So, let me know what you guys think. The level of activity the Guam Mafia will add is likely to be pretty sparse. There will be a feeding frenzy come Civil War time, that's the annual Oregon/Oregon State football game. Our opinion has always been the more people we can drag into that ridiculousnesses the better. Most people find it a lot of fun. Some find it complete wrong and think the whole mafia should be put in straight jackets, thrown in padded rooms, the doors locked and the keys thrown away. I keep waiting for it to happen, sounds like a hoot to me. You know those giant blow-up sumo suits they stick people in so they can bounce off of each other, I think we could get some of that action going, except you add being able to bounce off padded walls. Sounds like fun, don't you think?

Take care,
Jimmy Hale

On our way to find my BDay din din.

GLOBAL WARMING CONFIRMED!!!

This just in, June 11th, 2008. It's snowing and 38 degrees in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Al Gore is right!

I know us podunk folk in Idaho don't know as much as Al Gore, but holy cow. We still have standing snow in the bench (foot hills). We have not been able to pull the camper in the hills yet because of the standing snow. So would someone who believes all this bunk science explain this too me. I know, I watched "The day after tomorrow", and global warming means a deep freeze, but that seems backwards to me.

Back from an extended Tahiti surf trip

Ia Orana & Hafa Adai Rick, and Juliet, and all,

Just got back from being overseas ... Tahiti of course. Surf was beautiful, but nasty as always.

Vairao, Teahupo'o and Taapuna are all just like left side Merizo or left side Boat Basin on Guam, and I did get my share of being pitched out onto shallow reefs. Sold a couple of my latest epoxy sticks to my Tahitian surf buddies.

I finally got to speak with Hank Pickop a couple months ago, and he is living in Las Vegas.

I'll be in Las Vegas on Monday for a whole week, and hope to see that dude while I am there. Other than that, I will be back in Tahiti in mid-August, Connecticut in late August, then to Oahu in mid-September, and then to Paris for the end of September and first week of October.

Any word from the illusive Ben Bast yet? I've heard from Coco Joe Hipolito several times already. Laters!

Quotes of 'our' day.

Does anyone remember being called a 'Kumquat', or when wanting to ride back seat on a bicycle around the Circle, one would say "can you pump me" (meaning; can you give me a ride on your bike)? Or that the 'Philippiniose only like to eat the doggie doggie". What about "no way Palaia"

Just going down memory lane, again! That's all.

This one is for Joanna in the most part.

Joanna, Your bother Sam use to hang out with a guy about his same age in High School. He came from a good Morman family, I believe. He was also half Japanese and half white. I think the guys name was Tom? Don't think that he or his family ever lived in the 'Circle'. I remember hanging out with Sam and Tom (if that was in fact his name) when you all lived in the 'Guam Towers'. Could you ask Sam about him and his family, and if Sam still keeps in touch with them? Maybe you or others from this blog remember them too?

Possession Renotice

As in "to give notice again of possession", or maybe reclaimation, "the act of claiming again", but it could also be like renewing an insurance policy or service contract, but contracts mean lawyers and service in a relationship sounds like money might be exchanged.

My wife and I celebrated our 20th Anniversary today.
