Chamber under fire on warming

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is taking heat from Johnson & Johnson, Nike and other corporate members over its opposition to global warming legislation pending in the House. Continue...

It would appear not all of corporate America is opposed to cap and trade.

J&J would probably not be affected negatively by cap and trade - they aren't really heavy manufacturers.

Nike makes all of their products off shore so, why should they care?

Perhaps both of them anticipate being on the sellers side of the trade and, hence, stand to make money from the deal.

But, in any case THERE IS NO GLOBAL WARMING!

Man made global warming is bullshit. So is cap and trade. Follow the money. Look at Al Gore. He's a multi millionaire because he discovered it. Or at least figured out how to "market" it and make a buck. Where does he live? How many homes does he own? How much electricity does he consume every day? What a phony. And yet he's a liberal god. And he would have everybody think that people like me who drive cars like a 1980 Monte Carlo or 1977 Caprice is EVIL. Fuck him. And his supporters. You know what I think? I drain my oil in my cars in plastic shoeboxes from Walmart(99 cents) and throw them in the dumpster. Hahaha. They pump the oil out of the ground so being the environmentalist I am I return it back from where it came.Hahhhaah.I'm recycling. I know what you're thinking. Why not drop it off at Autozone. Why? They sell it to the recyclers. I pay for it, give it to them, and then they make money off of it.WTF! They should GIVE the oil to me. How about when you buy new tires? Does anybody ever look at the receipt? They charge you for "disposal" for each tire.Again,WTF.They sell those tires to a recycler. If their gonna make the money off of them anyways fine. I'm a capitalist. But to screw me coming and going? Whatever.

First of all, the "chamber of commerce" has no power.
Second, there may be an increase in the temperature, but to say that it is "man made" or "man created" is a lie. Throughout history, there has been an increase and decrease in the global temperature. What did man do to create global warming after the last ice age? How about the mini ice age of the 15th century? What does the government have to to with "regulating" it. Not has Al Gore (a liberal icon) made his millions, so has it been mandated by congress and the executive office to cost more money in the diesel industry. In 2007, emissions out of diesels was drastically reduced. The technology was not available at the time. Still is not, and with the "regeneration" systems on diesels, idle time has gone up, because the truck has to idle at a high RPM for somewhat of an hour to burn off the particulates. The people that tote "global warming" and those who believe them are costing the country money and energy. This I know first hand.
Mat it is funny that you mention that petroleum products come from the earth. A few years ago, a double tanker of hot oil turned over in Yellowstone Park. The environmentalists went ape over it. They took Idaho Asphalt to court over it. The lawyer stood before the judge and said, "it came from the very ground that it was removed from" and "was used to build the roads that go through Yelowstone". The judge threw it out and said that the environmentalist were a bunch of idiots, okay, he didn't use them words, but the sentiment was there. I think that environmentalists are about the stupidest people in the world. They don't know what they are saying. If they loved the land as much as campers and hunters, they would keep their trap shut.

"...about the stupidest people in the world." hahaha that's funny DRL. You did do that intentionally right?

DRL said...

RAC, good one. No, I didn't even notice. I am stupid for another reason.

Always one to read between the lines I say the point of the article is that the GOP doesn't have corporate America in the bag. While it is true that oil companies tend to heavily favor the GOP (from the posts on this thread I can see why) they don't make up the entire spectrum of American business. I think we've seen that just because you are religious, rich, or a Fortune 100 corporation it doesn't automatically make you Republican. Now if only they would just quit pretending to speak for them.

DRL said...

I see said the blind man to his deaf wife.

Na, I don't speak for anyone but myself. I know that throughout the spectrum of politics, the "voice" of the people is prevalent. The "defender" of beliefs is not everyone who speaks. I and I think that every conservative speaks for themselves. don't take what I just said as "speaking for anyone else". No, It is just what I think. Just as you and the liberals on this don't, in my mind, speak for the waco left (i.e. Al Gore JR.). But rather agree with him and the others on the left. I do not believe that "agreeing" is speaking for. I could be wrong, and often am.

rac said...

Serious question Mat. Why go to the trouble of putting your used oil in the dumpster? Why not just drain it onto your lawn?

DRL said...

Mat, I agree with RAC on this one. I used to sprinkle mine on the alley. It was dirt and the oil kept the dust down when people went by. Why through it away? Put it to use. I worked at a place in the mid 80's that we converted a wood burning stove to burn the used oil after we changed the oil in our trucks. It still burnt wood, but would drip the oil in. Don't waste something that you can use.

juliet said...

or something someone else can use.

rac said...

Actually that wasn't really my point, but...

A while back Ric informed us that conservatives have a much higher moral character than liberals. As such I'm going to assume Mat is unaware that dumping his used motor oil in the trash constitutes criminal activity. Not only could Mat be prosecuted for a felony but he could also be subject to tens of thousands of dollars in fines. The argument that since it "came from the ground it's safe to go back in the ground" is completely false. The only thing oil in your car has in common with oil in the ground is the name (especially if it's synthetic). The problem with illegal dumping of toxic chemicals such as motor oil is it tends to leach into the water supply. I find it ironic some people are passionately concerned about not leaving their great grand kids a mountain of debt but could care less if they're born with birth defects or die of leukemia before ten. I wonder how many other conservatives on the blog condone such activity?

juliet said...

Well Matt, I hope you have some of that oil on hand because I think you might need to lubricate your self after the missile RAC just sent you. hahahhaa

DRL said...

RAC, I am once again speaking out of tern, because you did not direct your question or comment to me, but as usual, here I go.

Legal and illegal are arguable. I say that the United States Supreme Court made abortion "legal". But it is not moral. It should be illegal. The environmentalists have gone way overboard with its EPA rules. I can see not pouring toxic into a water supply, but the ground? Like I said, hot oil is the binding agent for asphalt. The same thing you and I drive on, which is poured on the ground. The most harmful thing about garbage dumps is methane.
I ask, do you speed? What is okay with that, and not dumping oil?
As far as morals, yes. I would say that everyone of us struggles with morals. However, none being greater than the other (as people) I know that conservative Christians have better morals than the liberal counterparts. I don't only speak of Christians, but most religions are grounded in good morals. Buddhists, Muslims, Hindu, and many others. Take away the fanaticism, and you will see good morals.
Is it okay to give condoms out to little girls? How about take little girls across the state line for an abortion? I sin, which means I break the morals of God. I remember a discussion on here about the olympic swimmer (don't remember his name) caught on camera smoking pot. Some said he should just say something to the affect, "shut up and let me do what I want". Is he a role model? If so, are you saying, or whoever said it, that it is okay to break the law, if it suits your purpus?

But, if someone has no morals to fall back on, what will they stand for? I am not saying that any liberal has no morals, don't' twist what I say. I am saying it is liberal laws that give approval to immoral action.

rac said...

Blah blah blah blah... I can see not pouring toxic into a water supply, but the ground?... blah blah.

And the Double Jeopardy question is: It's where wells are located?

DRL said...

Dang RAC, I didn't know you were against paved roads? Whoa, that's tough. That is the fringe waco left.

DRL said...

RAC, what about my questions? Are you going to answer them? And of course, anyone else can too.

rac said...

Your questions are irrelevant... as is comparing road construction to the illegal dumping of used motor oil.

rac said...

As rule, arguing you violated a law because you felt it to be unjust is generally a poor legal defense. You would be better off sticking with insanity.

DRL said...

RAC, I will take your last remark as a joke.

rac said...

...it was. ;)

As a side note I would add if the oil Mat is illegally dumping belongs to the company he works for, the company could be fined HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of DOLLARS per incident. And I'm pretty sure he would be fired on the spot. Not sure how you can justify the risk.

mat said...

My cars are owned by me and not the compay I work for. I put the oil in the dumpster because we were living in a condo and didn't have a yard. I park my beasts in the spots next to the dumpster and when I service them I put the oil and old filter in the plastic box and duct tape it shut and walk ten feet and drop it in. The oil in the ground is different than whats in my car but thats not the point. The point is I don't believe in man made global warming or all the environmental gloom and doom. Anyone can post links to all kinds of shit saying otherwise but I'm not buying. I used to take my oil to Autozone when I first moved here but found out what they made on the shit and stopped. Before we moved into the condo I would pour it around the fenceline at my house for weed control. Now we're in a house again with a big backyard and same thing. And I use premium grade oils so I don't change it as often. And I cut my grass with a lawnmower thats not authorized for sale in California(not CARB certified) and the Monte carlo has dual exhausts with no catalytic converters, an edelbrock intake and carter four barrel and I drive the shit out of it. The Caprice too.Hahahhaha.

Mat, how bout my Ford Excursion, the largest SUV ever made, with the 7.3 Powerstroke, YEA BABY!!!
Oh, my Jeep now has a 5.3 Chevy vortec engine. I can flip it by just stomping on the gas hard. Oh, my daughter has a Nissan Sentra, so that makes up for it. That is our "carbon footprint". Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

DRL said...

Oh, yea RAC, anytime you are in the area, I will take you (your kids too, if you haven't scared them for good) out in the jeep. I know you love the outdoors as I do, and I can show you stuff you'd love. I am a conservationist in my love for the outdoors. Use it, but don't abuse it.
The offer is open for anyone who ever gets in the area.
