"Obama's budget eliminates abstinence education"
"Keeping with a campaign pledge 'not continue to fund abstinence-only programs'....."
It cuts funding for any "abstinence" programs, not just abstinence-only.
"This Budget eliminates funding for Community-Based Abstinence Education, the mandatory Title V Abstinence Education program, the Compassion Capital Fund, and Rural Community Facilities."
I took this from a liberal web page:

How can someone be "pro-choice" if abstinence is taken away as a choice?
That is why I always refer to it as "pro-life" or "pro-abortion". With both, there is no choice. President Obama has made it clear which he is. He is not for choice at all.
I ask you on the pro-abortion side, where is the "middle ground" on this?
First you bitch about the government spending too much, now you bitch when programs that have been proven not to work are cut.
No, I am not "bitching". I think if he wants to go to the "common ground" then get rid of standard sex education, which is a glorified class on "how to". If you give a child permission, they will do it.
And I hate to have to tell a microbiologist, but abstinence is the ONLY form of birth control that works.
See, I am all for cutting any and every form of sex education. But Obama is the one who said he wanted "common ground" on this issue. How is taking the only form of birth control (with the exception of pulling out) for the Catholic Church out of his budget?
So, why didn't he get rid of the handing out condoms to kids program?
I was thinking the exact same thing Cindy. I guess what we've learned from our conservative friends on the blog is that taxes and social programs only suck when they don't directly support your ideology or lifestyle.
And besides, we all know how well abstinence works... just ask the Palin's. hahaha
I don't mean to be contradictory but screw abstinence.
hahahaha..thanks for that one doug
Doug,
that was funny. Leave it to you to come up with that. Good one.
No no no!!!
Would you please listen to me. I am complaining because Obama lied about wanting "common ground". If he did, he would have ether got rid of ALL sex education or none. He only picked the one that is not in his belief. See, regular sex education teaches permissive sex. It says, "We know you are going to do it anyway, so here you go", and hands out condoms or takes under aged girls across state lines for an abortion.
What part of "I think the government has no place in sex education, so get it out of public schools". I am not advocating abstinence taught in any public school.
All right, maybe someone else can give it a try. I tried and they are so closed minded to hear what I said. I thought it was simple. So, someone else jump in.
But Cindy don't you get the religious conservative mind set... I you BELIEVE enough everything will be okay. Did everyone know that one of the fastest growing AIDS populations is the elderly... Now how does that problem get solved. Just say No. No sex ed or programs to spread the word about safe sex among the baby boomers and their teenage mothers and fathers who missed the reefer madness movie.
Drl. Education about sex does not cause kids to have it. They figure out how to have sex with or with out classes on the subject. They are genetically engineered to want to have sex. You know my comments on Purity rings they just don't do the trick. Now I know you swear by them for your daughters and that's all well and good but for the parents who are not standing over their daughters with a shot gun and a bible it just is not a proven option. Abstinence is taught in sex ed along with other more effective methods.
Juliet, I know that any preparation is not going to override will. But, my point is if kids know that the ONLY way to not get pregnant, or get someone pregnant is abstinence. One thing I do, that I haven't shared here is sit with each boy that my girl know (that I know of). I explain that if they sleep with my daughter, they are taking the one thing she can offer once. That means they will take something away she will not be able to offer her husband. I remind them often. I also reiterate the damage done if a young girl gets pregnant, to both of their futures. I have one of the strongest libidos of anyone I know. Many of my friends feel for Jill, but I have never cheated on her. See, it is all decisions we make. So, abstinence is possible.
With the thing on AIDs. Sad, AIDs is the only pandemic that can be stifled with staying with one partner. I understand that when an elderly person looses their love, they will look. But, once again, they should be smart enough to know what to do.
This is going to sound stupid to the liberals, and even the conservatives.
If one man (husband) only slept with one woman (wife), there would be no need for sex education. AIDs would go away. But, when we let out feelings, hormones and emotions lead our lives, we will usually do the wrong thing.
I love the fore mentioned, but I let "right and wrong" lead my life. Oh, yes, don't go there. I sin. I make mistakes, but if I did what I wanted to do, I would not be married. The old, "if it feels good, do it", is not the best way to conduct your life.
So tell me drl. What were you THINKING when you were Sin'n. Surely people told you not to do things. Why didn't that work for you. Was it because there was no purity ring on your finger at the time or was it that you didn't get the message in school about Abstinence. You were talking about sex right? I wonder if that just "do not do message" did not work for you why do you think it would work for others.
And if the only people who had sex with each other were official spouses then the day time Soaps would suck and think of all the people who would lose jobs because now one watched tv anymore. Think about it drl.... I mean that would be as bad as dystroying the wood industry. ( Wood get it)
Juliet, I grew up in a very liberal home. Never heard of a purity ring until one of my friend got one for their daughter. I was into about anything you can think of and more, but it was when I found the Lord and married Jill that my life changed. I know that I still sin. Yes, I know it is wrong, but I will never go back to what I was. It is not what I teach my girls, or how I live my life as an example. They know how much I love their mother, and use that as an example. I pray that my children never do what I have done in their years. You know, if I would have lived my life as I am now, I would probably have married one of the girls on this block. I still remember her telling me, "I am not that kind of girl". I left because of that, in search of someone who was not like her. I am not proud of my life, but I lived it because of the permissive surrounding I lived in. So, to answer your question, No. I did not think what I was doing was wrong. I never had a guilty conscious about my lifestyle. Just as I have heard on here about things that are wrong, but by no means is there guilt in what is said.
Juliet, thank you again, you made me laugh. Yes, and the Simpson, family guy, what would they do. Can you see them soap stars in the unemployment line. Oh, what about the sponsors. How many jobs would be lost (I don't watch soaps, so which commercials are on them) going out of businesses. Pfizer would go broke handing out Viagra. Haaaa
Hey, I gotta go to bed, ta ta for now.
Drl WHAT A CLIFF HANGER that last comment was. "I WOULD HAVE MARRIED ONE OF THE GIRLS ON THE BLOCK BUT SHE TOLD ME I WAS NOT THAT KIND OF GIRL" Hmmm Pat,Cindy, Becky, Dana and I were older and out of your life. Some of the others were more liberal, the only good girls I can think of were....Juls. Hahahha I bet Jill is getting the iron skillet out of the kitchen now to comb your hair with. hahhahahah. Love you drl I am going away for the weekend see you back at the office computer on Monday for the night shift. Be safe, I mean sleep with one eye open.
I agree with Doug!! I'm single and don't plan on ever getting married again but also don't plan on giving up sex for the rest of my life. I don't have to worry about the getting pregnant part anymore but I guess I am in that "elderly" population that Juliet brings up and yes, DRL I know what to do about that to keep safe.
I raised 3 daughters and had 2 stepchildren while they were in their teens. I was always very open talking about sex with them (with no lectures or judgements). They knew they could come to me with any questions and that I was also open to taking them to get birth contol if they wanted it. No body had any unwanted pregnancies and I think that as grown people they all have healthy and normal attitudes about sex.
It all boils down to Newton's third law: for every action on a body there is a equal and opposite reaction. Probably why Utah is the biggest consumer of online porn.
In the last couple of days we've learned some of our biggest conservatives on the blog came from very liberal homes. Interesting. I wonder what Freud would say to that?
Yes can you remind me, other then drl who were the other three conservatives with liberal families. And I do not think liberal applies to the amount of alcoholic beverages consumed. I thought it applied more to moral and political views.lol
Or Does the conservative list include the brothers Sean, Ric and drl. That would make three so I wonder who is the fourth.
"I wonder what Freud would say to that"? Who would care? Most people working in the current mental health system acknowledge that Freud was mentally ill himself, a child molester and a drug addict. Don’t think his opinion would matter much today.
About the only credibility that he holds today is that he is the founder of psychoanalysis and often mentioned in psych 101, and maybe a brief mentioning in abnormal psych, usually a 200 or 300 level college course.
Juliet, mat was the other.
I don't know what Sigmund would say but I can honestly say that at least some of us grew up with minds of our own. And don't confuse liberals with Democrats. Both my parents were life long democrats but were still very conservative.Theres a difference. My mom is a liberal but only on certain things like abortion. But shes eighty so I let her slide hahahah. But seriously how many of your parents were truly liberal growing up? And in case anyones wondering, yea my mom knows how I talk about her. She knows I love her and she loves me to death cause I'm her baby.We have lively discussions when we're together staying up till 3 or 4 in the morning shooting the breeze.Benita hates it. She tries to sleep but we talk so loud it keeps her up. Like in Vegas Baby. There are a lot more conservatives on the blog than you guys know but some of them never log on because they have lives.
I was the other rac, really? You don't even know who the conservatives are.Remember the code. We operate on a need to know basis. And read my previous post.At least I was allowed to think for myself and grow into my own man. With my own beliefs.Peace.
Gee mat, I seem to recall you recently making this statement: "My mom and sister Debbie (big libs) got agitated and said "just pay the money and be done with it." Were you or were you not raised by your mother?
Mat, I didn't think you were allowed to have your own beliefs. You know, being a Republican and all.
Dang RAC, your not like out to butcher people are you? RAC, you must br keeping a large achieve of what people say, and use it as ammunition against them when the time is right for you or your political agenda. You can’t take (well maybe “you” can) what people say per bedim all they time. When you quote others, you leave out the meaning of the conversation that they where previously discussing in.
And when you use quotes that involve family members or loved ones, that is so shallow man.
Here's another one of your quotes mat "And don't confuse liberals with Democrats." What the fuck do you think we've been trying to tell you.
You also said you were raised to think for yourself. Interesting you were raised by a liberal mother. That's another thing I've been trying to tell you. We encourage free thinking on our side of the fence. Thanks for making my job so easy mat. ;)
Sorry Ric - but despite my early wild years I still manage to have a pretty good memory and decent reading comprehension. I guess its OK for you and your brothers to come on here and insult people but when someone throws it back in your face you hide under your skirt. Toughen up man.
Cindy, so right on!
truth hurts huh?
Exactly rac.I believe you and Juliet asked who the conservatives were that had liberal parents. We were able to break free and think on our own. Who had liberal parents and are still liberal? Get it?Sheesh dude.Talk about not thinking for yourself.
Cindy, my last post wasn't for you girl..I'm sure you get it
“Reading comprehension”??? How about you just “copied and pasted”?
“I guess its OK for you and your brothers to come on here and insult people but when someone throws it back in your face you hide under your skirt”. RAC, Elaborate please, if you can without copying and pasting.
Oh yes, I can copy and paste too! :0
I'm sorry Ric, do facts and other evidence offend you. I know it's hard to deny something when your own words are staring you in the face. If you want to see where you and your brothers (and I mean that figuratively) have insulted people here why don't you just pick a thread and read through it... slowly. Look, I'm all for lively debate and discussion but if you want to continue at a sophomoric level then expect it in return. If you want to pick a fight don't cry when you get a little bloody.
RAC, I love a good debate, when the debate is a debate. But name calling or insulting others is not a debate. It’s an attempt to belittle others. I don’t play that game.
Ric, then maybe you should stop being an ass and I promise I will too. I thought mat and I made that deal too but apparently he was drunk at the time.
Mat, what are you talking about. Conservatives constantly bicker about who's "a real conservative" and who's "a real Christian" (I can show you some quotes from the blog but Ric might get pissed). You'll never hear a liberal make such an outlandish statement. But I do know many conservative families that have disowned their children because they didn't come out of the mold just right. I would say you were pretty lucky to have such open minded parents. It's a testament to liberals everywhere that you mother still loves you. ;)
RAC, if you think that I have been an ass, please let me know how I demonstrated myself to you or the blog as being ass? I think of myself as a true gentleman. But if you think or consider that you have been an ass, don’t let me stop you.
Why make accusations that you think some one was drunk at the time? Lets not be judgmental.
No RAC, you can say anything and I promise I wont get pissed.
RAC, liberal and conservative parents have both disowned their children. It is never right! Politics doesn’t play a part in parenting.
Your last statement was pretty low rac but as usual I just consider the source. You inferred that being conservative meant I wasn't able to think for myself. I showed that not only could I but broke the bonds of liberalism to do so. Like having a handicap in golf.Hahahaha.Look don't let this get personal ok?You say that you like to debate but you really aren't. Of all the posts that I put forth here Ya gotta admit I do it without the help of you tube or anything else. As a matter of fact so does Ric. Original thoughts get it? Yea Rics my bud.Know what? So are you.We broke bread together in Vegas and had a blast. Lets stay on point and have a lively debate. We're not twelve anymore.Like one of my earlier posts we're all brothers here(and sisters)If we ever get together again and get in some shit it's all for one.If you and I were drinking and some one got in our shit I would be the first to jump in and open a can of woop ass.I would expect the same from you.As I remember you were quite the scrapper.
Oh Shit man Mat, you always draw tears to my eyes! Can’t wait to drink wine and break bread with you too again! (And inhale your wife’s chicken and ribs)as we drink good carbonated brewskies! I like Hamm's!
RAC and Pat, what category would we put our parents? They were registered as Republicans...conservative about some things, liberal about others. I think we were definitely encouraged to be our own persons and think for ourselves. Knowledge and learning were valued above all else. Also respect for others and good manners were a big deal.
Gee Ric, I thought you didn't want me to quote you anymore. I'm so confused.
RAC, it’s OK to be confused! Happens to us all!
I don't think they sell Hamms here anymore Ric. I can probably find it. Remember the commercials? From the land of sky blue water. The bear in the river drinkin the beer? Hamms draft was my favorite.Aaah Now I'm thirsty and hungry. Now I'm drinking Pigs eye pilsner. You'll never believe it.The Pigs eye brewery La Cross, Wisconsin.www.PIGSEYEBEER.com. Good stuff. Who says there's no manufacturing left in America.
Good question Cindy. It's hard to say but I would guess they were pretty middle of the road. I always considered Mom to be more liberal than Dad though. They definitely gave us a very long leash when it came to forming our own opinions... and to that I am forever grateful. I don't think I even knew what their religious beliefs were.
Your killing me with memories and laughter Mat! Yes I remember those Hamm commercials well!
Two years ago, when Teresa and I were on our round the County road trip, she interested in visiting in all the National Parks (that we did), but my interest was hunting down Hamm’s Beer. We did find it in a few States out west. And I did manage to bring a few cases back home. But Mat, that was 2 years ago. The good beer is gone now.
RAC, to back up your theory, I would have to say that all three of my girls are more conservative than I am. The oldest belongs to a pentecostal church where she and her husband run a youth group. When I go to visit them I've gone to church with them out of respect for their beliefs and knowing that would be something they would like but I know they would be respectful of me if I said I did not want to go. My daughter and I agree that our beliefs are very different and we live very differently but we don't try to change each other, she knows I love her, respect her, think she's a great mom and I'm proud of her.
RAC, we went every Sunday to the United Church of Christ until we moved to Guam. We tried a couple of churches on Guam but none were to the parents liking. The little church that Mom and Dad were married in was without a minister for quite a while and they had Dad fill in doing the sermons and I think he was quite good at it. You were probably too young to remember going to church but I remember that you would often fall asleep during service and snore...lol
My oldest is also very involved in the church (Methodist). Next year he'll be living in the Wesleyan dorm at college. I'm actually pretty proud of him for making that choice (even though it's not one I would have made). It has helped keep him out of trouble and provides a nice wholesome social network at school.
LOL Cindy. I suspect my Church behavior today would still be the same.
Mat, La Cross? I hope you are talking about La Cross, Wisconsin! I have a picture of myself hugging the worlds biggest six pack of beer, (taken in 1980 or 81 after my TDY duty at Fort McCoy during the Cuban Refugee Riots).
I remember mom and dad as being church goers when I was little happy memories on Christmas eve, before we went to grandmas. moved to guam and new story. We still said Grace, (for a while) and I always said my prayers at night. They were the best of parents, supporting me in everything yet loving me when I screwed up.
Good discusions everyone. Nothing said here will change any minds, but good talks.
Cindy, you as everyone on here are adults, and can do what you want. That was not the point. See President Obama said he wants to find the "common ground" on abortion, but will only listen or do the liberal part. He will not lean to the center at all. That is all. I too will defend the life of the unborn child as long as I have breath. That's all. If we don't get out our ideas and beliefs, then where will information come from?
Much of what was said was taken as insults, when not meant to be on ether side. I said what I saw and thought, but until abortion is made illegal, it is going to be done on a regular basis.
Oh, and my wife knows about my life. I have not tried to hide anything from her. You can guess, but she knows who. But it was not about anyone but me, remember that.
RAC, you go.
Ric and Mat, this is what is called "pissing alcohol on the camp fire".
Oh and yes, pissing on an electric fence hurts bad, but makes your muscles convulse so the stream stops, all is good now.
Pat, yes the Truth hurts. Jesus said, "I am the truth, way and the light". And when you see the truth, it hurts.
Ric, I will look for some Hams if you come this way. You know uncle Mitch got me drunk on Hams when we lived on Abbott street in Moscow.
Mat, you mentioned the bear in the river. Ever heard of Bear Whiz Beer?
Same kinda concept, just don't drink the water. he he
Parent views: I think there was a different standard for boys and girls in our house.
Ric, you say you are a "true gentleman" but in a previous post you were bragging about being rude to a well known person whose views you do not agree with.
Cindy, I know you didn't refer this to me. Yes Ric is not Perfect. Only Christ is perfect. So he did exaggerate to make a point. We have all done that. "good parents" etc...
I do know him well, and he is a gentleman, but just not perfect. Although, in his defence, it is better to walk away from someone, sometimes. Do you agree?
We have always taught our children to think for themselves and to question authority.
My eldest daughter voted for McCain and recently attended the local tea party.
Where did we go wrong?
You did fine Doug!
We must lock down our offspring!!! Heck,my daughter will hate me in a couple of years because if she wants to go on a date,I'll be there,in the back seat. Her Daddy might have a fake shotgun, but it's to scare 'the you know what' out of them! I don't think our president is out to get our children,it is we as parents that guide them and it is ultimately up to us.
