If it truely was her space than I think it was wrong for anyone to take down her flag and make an issue about it. If I shared an office with two coworkers I think I would ask first before I hung up something that was large and going to be in their space also.

I notice this happened in Mansfield, Texas. Mansfield is about as hard core cowboy as any place I've ever lived. Now you see what happens when a state's governor openly puts down the country and even threatens secession - the residents decide the greatest symbol of our country is now offensive. What's next - bald eagle BBQ?

juliet said...

What a trip America is really a mixed bag of nuts these days.

juliet said...

Where is the worlds greatest American on this one.

Sean said...

Only RAC could come to that conclusion...

The "offended" was an African immigrant, not a native Texan. The governor has not "put down the country", but rather rejects the naked federal power grab by the Democrats and this administration. But, not to worry RAC, soon we will no longer be America.

DRL said...

I am here.
I don't care what any person from a foreign country thinks of our flag. If it offends them, move back where they came from.
The thing I think is missed here in the article is the flag was put on the ground. Next to burning the flag, letting it touch the ground is abhorrent. If they would have taken it down and folded it up in a closet, it may have been different.

Well, now my commentary: try and throw my flag on the ground. I know that rac will probably do it now just to provoke me.

juliet said...

I liked the one guys comment if you don't like it here take the North exit to Canada or the South exit to Mexico. I wonder if that the supervisor has had death threats yet.

juliet said...

On the other hand there is probably some background to this situation...maybe she has some personality issues that make it unbearable to work with her and the flag was just a bad choice for the super to stand her ground.

Cindy said...

There are always 2 sides to every story...and then there is the truth.

Sean said...

The real issue here is that we've let our country fall to the point where we actually give serious credence to the notion of someone being offended by our flag.

rac said...

It was the hospital administration that ordered her to pull down the flag. Therefor they must have also concluded it was offensive. A judge usually won't send you to death row unless she concludes that what you did warrants such punishment... at least that's how they use to do it in Texas.

Sean said...

Don't be so naive - the hospital administration concluded that it was easier to deal with telling her to take the flag down than with the inevitable legal bullying that would have come from the ACLU.

rac said...

Why is it that every argument that comes from your family starts with a personal attack? Don't be such an asshole Sean (how's that - does that make you feel more at home). Yours is an assumption just as much as mine is.

Sean said...

Well, I for one have certainly never called anyone on this blog an asshole.

Sean said...

I have never called anyone stupid, either. Where did you see that?

Sean said...

Just a small sampling of the "personal attacks" over the last couple days:
Joanna - referring to DRL as "little people"
Juliet - "trolly car Bait'n buddies" - I'm not sure what that even means
Pat - to David "do you have an original thought"
Joanna - to DRL "take your meds" See a psychiatrist
Juliet - to DRL "accept your gayness"
Joanna - to DRL "you are ignorant"
Cindy - to DRL "did you take your meds this morning"
Pat - about DRL "Meds woun't help him, Cindy"
Joanna - to Dave "your (sic) racist. He's (Obama) much smarter than you are so accept it"

rac said...

Sean, you have called me naive (among other things) on several occasions so in my book that makes you an asshole. It really isn't necessary to include insults when you state your opinion. If you believe your argument strongly enough it should be able to stand on its own merits. Personal attacks do nothing to further your case. This is a habit I really wish we would all get away from.

Sean said...

RAC, wasn't it you that jumped up and down (virtually) because I had "fallen into your trap" a few months ago?

But, in any case, I didn't say you are naive, I said don't be naive. I subtle difference, perhaps, but still not quite the same.

I really do make an effort not to make this all personal. If I've not succeeded, shame on me.

rac said...

Fair enough. And to reiterate, I said it "is a habit I really wish we would all get away from."

Sean said...

Yes, let the politicians and reporters sling the mud and call the names. We're all friends here.

We can agree to disagree and not loose any face in the process.

rac said...

Well said Sean. My hat goes off to you.

juliet said...

Trolley car refers to your bonding adventure ride at NY NY in Vegas with Matt. He mentioned it as a catalyst for "college dorm" like nick names (ster)in a long and rather dramatic, heart felt narration of the bonding amongst some men on the conservative side of the blog. This solidarity and his uneducated, mis-guided belief that he would have been a member of the German side of things in WWII (because of his ancestral background) as a rational for accepting the slanderous, unacceptable things said about me and my family, by guess who, oh ya the Larson- Perdu boys. I think in the last few days I have weathered the names like "Shameful Child Murderer" and accusations of being less American and less patriotic...etc rather well. I mean asshole would be a step up from child murderer.

Bait'n well you could have a hobby of fishing or wanking take your pick.

Cindy said...

Sean, I for one , only sank to DRL's level when I got tired of his insults, generalizations, and name calling.....it seemed at the time the only way to deal with him...yes, childish, I know but he shows no respect for any one who doesn't think the way he does and I'm sure he has no intention of trying to behave differently.

Doug said...

Hey I was on that "bonding adventure ride" too.
I kind of remember it as a fun roller coaster.
Good times.

rac said...

I, for one, am keeping my fingers crossed Cindy... but you're probably right.

mat said...

You know what Juliet I just read what you said and Fuck you.I didn't even understand the shit you were talking about. When I posted that it was in response to you saying that we were all a bunch of third culture kids trying to bond with each other(or rather the lower two cultures trying to bond with the superior upper culture)I take real offense to that because we really ALL did get along. And your constant psycoanalyzing of what you percieve to be "our sides" thoughts and inner beliefs are, getting really annoying. I refrained from commenting on your response about DRLs Baitn buddies because I know what you meant.I do try to be nice but I don't think there's a person on this blog who can't honestly go back and read all the earlier posts and not agree that when one of the supposed rednecks here said something out of line it was only in response to an out of line and down right nasty comment by on of "you guys". So sad I guess after all these years some of you are still twelve years old on the block. My grandsons are staying with us this weekend and Sunday we're going up to Green Mountain Falls and fish and barbecue for my grandson Marcels ninth birthday. We're driving the Monte Carlo.Yep, I'll be hangin out with my "Baitin buddies".Oh yea Doug was on the "roller coaster ride"as a matter of fact him and I rode in the same car.We had a blast. You shoulda been there.Better to experience it than to "Theorize" don't you think?

rac said...

You know mat, I'm going to stay out of this fight between you and Juliet. However, I will take exception to your comment that your side only got nasty in response to something nasty our side said (paraphrased). You know as well as I that we've all been guilty of stirring up the pot. I will refrain from providing specific examples because I believe you know what I mean. If we ever want to clean this up then we all have to be honest with ourselves and accept some responsibility. The first step in recovery is to admit we have a problem. ;)

Becki said...

I was on that ride also. I kind of enjoyed it and saw it as nothing more than a pretty good time.

juliet said...

Matt you wrote:"Wah,Wah,Wah. Hahahhaha.I'm half German(Kalb,Veal) and I could care less.As a matter of fact I'm half Danish as well and had I been alive in WwII I would probably have been a Nazi.Their bad people and this is true and the agony that they inflicted upon the world is sad.But what is really sad is how all of a sudden you can't say the word.Nazi. Whatever. It's time to get over it already. It's like calling someone a Mother F****R. It doesn't mean anyhing.Grow up already sheesh."

And: "Juliet,Just to be fair and correct you. It's "Dougster" and "Racmeister". its not Mat anything except Mat. And for what it's worth I was the one that asked Doug to be the blog sheriff or "Elder". It didn't mean anything other than I thought the blog was getting nasty and when you threatened DRL with charges and shutting it down. I thought Doug would speak out if he thought things were getting out of hand. It doesn't mean anything of course we just goof around here and I thought it was kind of cool and funny. If you were in Vegas with us you would have understood. Also for what it's worth I was the first one that met up with Doug in Vegas and about 20 minutes later Juls showed up and then it was ON.diet Coke and Jack baby. Three third culture kids from three different cliques and you would have thought that we had been best friends all our lives. I'm truly sorry that you weren't there but I'm telling you this just to set everything straight. We all called Joanna from the room.We all took turns talking to her. She was supposed to stay with my wife and I.You don't know how much trouble I got in with my wife for not asking her first. Or you might. You're a wife. I even paid for her upfront for the upgraded room. Every body there picked on and teased DRL when they met him about"spellcheck" including himself. We drank copious(there goes that ten dollar word) amounts of liquor and ate like starved boonie dogs. And never, ever did anyone bring up who used to kick whose ass or whatever. We did but it was all in good fun and truthfully if someone brought something like that up no one cared or remembered. We were all one big happy family. We were like a bunch of drunk frat boys and sorority girls traipsing around the strip liquored up riding the roller coaster at New York New York and I'm sure annoying people along the way. Again this post doesn't mean anything other than what you choose to read into it. Yea I'm a third culture, level two clique, white trash, red neck, whatever fill in the blank and you know what? I'm damn proud to be. Peace Out."

juliet said...

Matt you wrote "You shoulda been there.Better to experience it than to "Theorize" don't you think?" When you wrote that Trolley car vegas tribute post I was reading it as I prepared for my trip to Guam and Korea. I travel often and visit with friends when I can. Third Culture kids are kids raised outside of their home country. As for the FU...If you are in a standing position can you see the parts to do the job, then give it the old college try Matt'ster.

Joanna said...

Mat, You are really one to post profanity here on the blog.Let your family read what you just said to Juliet. You Ass!!! You are so low in the whole spectrum of human beings.Juliet is a very kind, loving person but,you had to spit out what you think of her.I think you should join Bonita and meditate...Karma!
Sean ,ignorant is not knowing,do you defend that about drl?As to meds,he's already stated that fact.

Doug said...

This thread is kind of like a roller coaster ride.

juliet said...

I agree Doug and this ride is definitely not worth a second round. Jo thanks for the kind words, don't worry about anything Matt has to say about me, besides he has gone...fishing.

rac said...

It's a ride alright... and I've got an E-Ticket (any remember what that means?)

Pat said...

Rac, E tickets went first. The best rides back in the day....damn, I'm getting old. remember going with mom and dad and setting up a meeting place after we all went our own ways? They were great. giving us free reign in Disney World with E tickets!

rac said...

Weren't the rides also rated by letter type? Like the best rides only accepted E-tickets and lesser rides might be a C or a D ticket. I think they also had different ticket packages. The more you paid the more E-Tickets you got. Not sure what the cable car was but I do remember it was a great place to "smoke".

Sean said...

just curious - would anyone reading this ever be offended by the Amaerican flag?

Doug said...

Well no not really.
I have in the past however wondered at the Wal Mart up the street that has a like 50' x 80' American flag out front while they are the worlds largest purveyor of cheap chinese shit.
But offended, nope.

Doug said...

Speaking of places to "smoke" at Dizzy World it had to be the Eastern Airlines pavilion.
Back there in the back where Space Mountain is now.

rac said...

Just the opposite Sean. Ol' Glory has even been known to bring a tear to my eye every now and again. Hell, I don't think I would even be offended by the "Amaerican" flag... whatever that is. ;)

rac said...

Yep. Growing up in in Florida meant a trip to the Magic Kingdom every time some yankee relative came to visit. After awhile you kind of had the place wired.

Sean said...

So, if none of us can imagine being offended by Ole Glory, then why did this thread degenerate so? Would it not have been an option for a resounding chorus of one voice proclaiming that the American flag shouldn't offend anyone and if it does, well, that's just too bad.

Why must we echo the bickering of our party lines on every little thing - even when we all agree?

juliet said...

Because u called rac naive

Doug said...

It is how we are genetically wired. We honor the flag and everything it represents by exchanging viewpoints and agreeing to disagree.

Pat said...

Yes Doug. From the time we were 5 yrs old and taught to recite the Pledge of allegiance in kindergarten. It's in our DNA. none of us are either more or less patriotic than the next guy or gal.

Joanna said...

I love the American Flag!I believe that people who burn it or drag it around should get the heck out of the U.S. of A. No respect and full of hate, move to China then. Your family may disappear during the night or they may charge you for the bullet that killed your loved one,but if you hate the American Flag ,then by all means, leave the country ASAP.

Anonymous said...

I will never recommend this blog to anyone.

Pat said...

Juls...just curious, why not?

Anonymous said...

The name calling mostly. People seem to make some personal attacks. A while back I invited old Guam friends to visit the blog and got some feedback that it was pretty disappointing. I was embarrassed.

Ric Larson said...

JULS, this was one awesome posting! You know, I have been off the blog for maybe a week and a half or so. I just decided to “check in to see what condition the blogs conditions was in”. It’s disgraceful. I too would not recommend anyone to this sight. Name-calling? Now, didn’t we all grow up about 30 or 40 years ago? Guess some of us still haven’t?

Pat said...

It's not a personal attack unless you take it "personal". I think any kid who ever lived in Deans Circle should join in here. It's good for the soul. Most of us, (especially us ole timers) would welcome them with open arms.

Cindy said...

I personally enjoy Jezebel.com but still always come back here because it feels like "home".

juliet said...

Juls I think you made the same comment before. I thought this was a DC blog for former DC kids. Really there are thousands and thousands of alternatives. My "Lucy's 5 cents worth" is, if you don't like something and it is unlikely to change based on past experience, stay away from it.

Pat said...

Exactly Juliet. If ya can't stand the heat............

Joanna said...

I agree. There are all kinds of Guam sites to visit... if you aren't from Dean's Circle and you feel hurt or mamalao, then use your brain and never log back on because you're sooooo embarassed of this blog that came from 2 DC people. Yes,it's harsh as times but, if you can't take it ,then log off and don't beam back up:)

Anonymous said...

Ladies, I am well aware of other Guam sites. I just thought there for a while I would enjoy the company of old friends. As for the heat, thanks for the boot. I leave you to it.

juliet said...

Well I hope I see you around sometime in or out of the kitchen'

Pat said...

No Boot given. just suggestions. Sorry you're ashamed to be a part of us DC rats. We don't always agree, but we were all transplanted kids..(third world if you will) and I think there is love and empathy for each other that is for life.

mat said...

HahaahA,Wait for it!SUCKERS!

juliet said...

Does that last comment make sense to anyone. Are you on the right thread Mat or just hanging by one.

Pat said...

Matt, Who are you calling a sucker??
