Cindy, have you listened to this one yet?

No, I haven't, but you're a good man Ric....keeping the wife happy. I brought my Chamoru Dreams Cd to work today. We always listen to music on the weekends and I work with ladies from other islands, Jamaica and the Philipines, thought they would enjoy it too, but someone had broken the Cd player. ;- ( I said I'm going to invest in another player before our next weekend on cause the music is what keeps us happy. Let me know how the other CD is.

Cindy, It's nice to know that we have our own 'Don Ho' (johnny) from Guam. He's from our generation! Maybe he is the guy appointed to keep the Spirit of the islands in us all...from above?

Hi Ric, ironically I did get to play with Don Ho several years ago, at the Hilton Dome. In the years after that gig, I maintained close ties with all of Don's musicians. No doubt the late 70's and early 80's in Hawaii was a very precious time for many.

Hey Johhny! You got to play music with a real legend! If any of Don Ho's musician's have close ties to his family, could you ask how his Niece 'Sarah Ho' is doing these days? She went to Keyser High School in Hawaii Kai in 1976 until graduation. Lost touch with her many years ago.

Hey Ric,

I just emailed Don Ho's drummer & recording engineer, Wendell Ching @ Studio One in Halawa, about Sarah Ho. We'll find out soon if he knows her and we'll go from there.

I truly wish for each and every one of our friends, here in the Dean's Circle Blog, that the "spirit of the islands" is in you always & forever.

For me, the islands are the "escape" from the "busy-ness of life" and oftentimes, I find that the "busy-ness of life" may often detract us from life itself.

I immerse myself in the thoughts and dreams of the island life, as it helps me to stay focused on the truly important things: Life & Living. These facets incorporate the many values which we all hold dear to our hearts. Our lives on Guam was a key to this inner spirit that we now all possess.

I use to play in so many concerts and nightclubs throughout the globe and played anything from Jazz to Fusion to Top 40 music. I have now come back to my real identity -- I now only play Island Music - because it makes me happy, inside & out.

Johnny, I appreciate all of this very much! Thanks for contacting the Drummer from Don Ho's band. I went to High School in Hawaii for a year (1976-77), at Keyser High School, Hawaii Kai. Sarah Ho and I were both in Drama Club and H.S. Chior together. We were very close friends at the time (even though I had a mad crush on her, though I never revealed it to her).

Thanks you also for your music! Love your Chamoru Dreams CD! My wife wants to listen to it every time we are driving in the car together. I told her that your music is...Island music, and brings me back to some of the best memories of my life! She loves your vioce and music. The song that you sing, "rhythm of the rain" reminds her of... 'me an her' meeting for the first time in Alaska, on a rainy night Kenai Alaska. It was raining that evening.

Can't wait to recieve your 'Tahitian Dreams' CD.

I am by no means Chamoru, but feel like I have the islander stuff in me!

Johnny, it was Kaiser High School, not Keyser High School. Darn public school system! I still can't spell!

I talked to Becki (Kalb) a little while ago. She just came back from spending a week in Hawaii and while there had dinner with some old friends of her parents and did a lot of reminising. She said it had been 18 years since she had been around any island culture and had forgotten how much it really was a part of who she is even though she doesn't live that lifestyle anymore.

Cindi, oh how I envy Becki! Hawaii and Guam are both my old stomping grounds. My next adventure in life is to go back to Guam and Hawaii and check out where I spent the most memorable times of my life. I would also like to go back to Germany and check out where I was stationed back in the 1980's (but that's another life).

My wife keeps telling me that our next big vacation will be the islands. Teresa wants to go to Guam and Hawaii. I am constantly telling her stories about the islands. So now she has to see them first hand for herself where I grew up!

And the music that I am now reunited with (such as Johnny's) I think Teresa is appreciating this more for my behalf (if that makes any sense)? But now she has become addicted to the island musical sound!

Ric, I think you are lucky to be with someone who "gets" you and wants to know who you really are including where you've been in the past. She sounds pretty wonderful.
