Back to the Future with Secretary Gates

On Monday, April 6, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates announced his long-awaited plans to reshape the U.S. military. He had foreshadowed many of his specific plans in an article in Foreign Affairs in which he argued that more attention - and money - needed to be directed towards the current fight against global terrorism, less money devoted to improving the military's conventional warfighting capability and the acquisition system reformed. Anyone on the right care to comment? Is this a move you approve of or just another blunder by the new administration?

It's a blunder in the name of progress. I'm sure gates is only doing as directed. A downgraded, unimproved missile defense program is a huge mistake. The F-35 is considered—the slug of the skies. It doesn't even compare with an old 80s version of the F16. Scrubbing the F22 project is a huge blunder, being that it is the most advanced, most dangerous, and most agile fighting machine ever to take flight. The town where I live is Top-Gun. All the fighter jocks talk about is how big a piece of crap the F35 is. You can bet your last dollar that the BHO administration is in the process of disarming our military and the country. Take the blinders off lefties, start sharpening your sticks, that's all we'll have to fight with when Hussein gets done with us.

By asking if it's another blunder by the new administration I assume you're being sarcastic.I will say this in all honesty. I was not aware of this issue because I have been busy but I read the artical that you posted. As a lay person I think that anything we can do to give us an advantage in wartime is worth it. Even with the economy and everything else, we shouldn't cut defense spending. From a technical stand point I will have to defer to Dave on this. I don't think anyone on the blog would have more of an "insiders" view or knowlege on the subject.

I thought Hussein was dead.
Won't we still have 100 or so F-22's?
That is one bad assed ride.
As far as the shift in focus in military spending I can see it to a point. We are fighting a different kind of enemy. It's not like they are cutting spending. The FY 2010 Pentagon budget is 21 Billion more than the previous year.

I like the increased dollars for intelligence and troops. It's hard to prevent an attack if you don't know it's coming.

Dave said...

The trouble is, we do know it's coming. What will we do to stop it?

Glad you asked Dave. First I would make a nice sturdy tin foil hat so the feds won't be able to infiltrate your thoughts. Next you might want to switch to well or spring water so you aren't being dumbed down by the fluorine. Stay away from vaccinations too. I would also close your bank accounts and pay for everything with cash, gold or chickens - no sense leaving a paper trail. Hope this helps. If you need more info try here. ;)

I've already taken care of all these things rac, and have gone several steps further. You'll be the one exposed and left out in the wilderness when your world crumbles around you. So go ahead and laugh now, because there will be plenty of crying later.

Honestly Dave, you really do sound more than a little irrational and paranoid. And even if you're right, you will have spent your whole life living in misery and fear. Then what will you have gained?

Just trying to warn you brother... just trying to warn you.
