True story (as it still may be true to this day): When I was living in Alaska in the early 1990’s, some people (like in Barrow, Alaska) used refrigerators to keep their food from freezing in the sub below winter and sometimes summer temperatures. Where they kept the fridges, I don’t know, but probably out side?
