White House causes terror scare

An Air Force One lookalike, the backup plane for the one regularly used by the president, flew low over parts of New York and New Jersey on Monday morning, accompanied by two F-16 fighters, so Air Force photographers could take pictures high above the New York harbor. Continue...

DOD photo op featuring Air Force 1 and low flying shots featuring Statue Of Liberty & other New York points of interest. Scared many people to near shitlessness.
Thing is the DOD guy at the White House informed the FAA of their low level flight plan and the FAA says ok but don't tell anyone else. So they didn't. Whatever & however it happened it really solidifies the thoughts of some that our government is heavily populated with insensitive, jaded morons incapable of effective real world decision making.

What was the White House thinking? What a better way to attempt to put fear in your own people? Just a thought folks!

Wasn't technically the White House. Department Of Defense actually. If you are implying that there's some sort of sinister conspiracy at play here I think you are giving someone way too much credit.

Gosh darn it Doug, all the media is playing the White House was behind it!

ACTUALLY, the Mayor's office WAS notified, just never passed the word. No one realized the plane would fly at 1,000 feet and scare the crap out of people. No one thought it through (typical of government) and why in hell do you need a marketing shot of Air Force One - who are you marketing to? Total cost - $335,000. What a waste. The photo op scheduled for next month over D.C. has been cancelled. Can't you photoshop this shit anyway?

I was just going to use the Photoshop line myself Becki. Great minds really do think alike.

I sleep during the day and missed this one totally.

Yea, I agree with all of you. I like (and didn't think of it myself) the photo shop idea. It may have been a while since 9/11, but it is still fresh in the minds of New Yorker's.

I don't agree that it was a plot of the White House. I doubt President Obama even knew about it.

Hey, I only had one word misspelled on this one, yip yip yahoooo

Ya well, everyone would complain the picture was photoshop'd and then there would probably be all sorts of trust and false advertising issues. Besides, I wonder what the defense industries "photoshopping" contractor bill would be for the picture. Probably cheaper to do the real flight.hahaha

Juliet you are right, I hadn't thought of that. "Why do we need to photo shop a picture of air-force one?" would by the outcry. "Looks so cheap." Even though it cost more than the fuel.

I guess it just would have been good to let the populous know, and they would have been happy to take there own pictures.

Oh well, what's that about hindsight and 20/20?

I think we should lease the plane for our next re-union Sweeet. Fly around and party all day. Hell aren't we tax payers? Don't we own it? Air Force one should be like a time share. I want on the list.

Dave get on it!!! You still have connections don't you.

Hey, wait a minute. On Dave's final flight he flew over Nevada. I bet that scared a bunch of them (what did you call them old ladies in Florida?) q-tips, I call them "loose skin people" gambling and drinking. "Did California slip into the ocean and Nevada is a coastal state?" Bunch of drunk old folk running in the streets, ha ha.

An apology is not what it needed, and when I get my next issue of the VFW I will look at his column. I seem to be wrong with you every time I post something, don't you think she was wrong, that is all I was asking?
