Speaking as a DC righty

I am appalled by RAC's statements to Dave about his retirement and salary benefits.

So...you are the spokesperson for "the DC Righties"? Was there a selection process or are you just of the opinion that the others are incapable of expressing themselves?

Is that better, Doug?

Or was your comment only intended to change the subject?

Why? Am I supposed to be a defender of CNN? I just cant deal with all these responsibilities.

Doug - I think you might have crossed up your posts. This one is about RAC's remarks to Dave concerning his salary, retirement and benefits as a member of the Coast Guard.

Rather than respond to my post, you actually deflected the discussion by questions whether or not should speak on behalf or righties. Now that I changed my wording, we can get back to the actual subject - RAC's remarks.

How are my remarks appalling? I was simply stating publicly available facts and figures (you can google it yourself). Dave asked me a question to which I gave a reply. My point is that Dave has benefited quite nicely from his government service. Sure he and his family have made sacrifices but it he has been amply rewarded for them. I challenge you to find an equivalent civilian occupation with similar compensation. Also Sean, the retirement rates which Dave falls under do not apply to anyone who joined after 1985... Congress thought they were too excessive.

I would also point out that members of our military reserve units do not receive the same benefits (even though many have served years on active duty). They are only eligible to collect their retirement benefits when they reach 67 years of age.

Ok I'll jump in for what it's worth. Sean and rac are both right. Let me explain. Everything rac said is true but to everybody on the blog who may not realize it, being in the military is not the same as working for the Federal Government. I know it sounds crazy but it's not the same as say being the maintenance guy at the Whitehouse and retiring after 30 years. The DOD is funded by the Fed but is a separate entity. They even have their own judicial branch and separate set of laws. The UCMJ. rac knows this but was either trying to make a point to Dave or trying to pull the wool over some eyes. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume the former is true. Sean is also right in as much as thats pretty low for rac to even bring up something like that. Daves your bro rac. Since way back. Couldn't you find a better example? And Doug I really hate this "Righty" thing and don't know who started it. And since you asked, yea Sean is the spokesperson. We voted and he was elected by a landslide. We just didn't let you "Lefties" know. Remember we operate on a "Need to know" basis. Keep up Doug.He can explain a lot of the points better than most of us and is able to research and post things that we wish we could. I hope I cleared that up. I now return you to your regularly scheduled blog.

And I forgot to mention rac that you're wrong about the reserves. If you serve ONLY part time for your whole career then yea you must wait until age 67 to collect benefits. However if you serve on full time status say as a recruiter or clerk for US readiness command or someother such shit, for ten years consecutively prior to retirement, then you get the whole enchilada upon retirement. Again, You would never try to pull the wool over anyones eyes. Just an honest mistake. Hehehe

And since I'm now a multi-millionaire, thanks to rac's assessment of my financial state, I will never have to worry about anything ever again... except maybe outrageous taxes, which is basically what I've been bitching about all along. It's hard to believe I'm so filthy rich. I only hope I'll live long enough to spend it all. Thanks Uncle Sam, you are my friend after all.
