Joe Jindal Versus the Volcano

ANCHORAGE (CAP) - Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, who raised eyebrows when he criticized funding for "volcano monitoring" while delivering the rebuttal to President Barack Obama's address to the nation last month, was incinerated by lava this morning while touring the area surrounding Alaska's Mount Redoubt with Gov. Sarah Palin. Read the full story here

rac, very funny, where do you find this stuff. It's like SNL. Keep it coming.

I was living in Nikiski, Alaska, way back in 1992. I was down at beach on the Kenai Inlet with a few friends enjoying a bon-fire when Mt. Spurr erupted, a crossed the Inlet from us (about 25 miles as the crow flies). Witnessed it first hand! We could see the plume blow ski high, about eight miles straight up into the air! Big mushroom cloud! We immediately drove up the hill to the nearest phone booth and called the local radio station (pre-cell phone days). The DJ at the radio station thought we were nuts and hung up on us. But 20 minutes later, the DJ came back on the radio and said, “the NWA just confirmed that Mt. Spurr erupted”. For days we were breathing volcanic dust! It was so gray and stunk like sulfur.

Cool story Ric. Was anyone living in the North West when Mount St. Helens erupted? I heard that was some wild times.

I shit you not RAC. I was stationed at Fort Carson Colorado (1/12th Infantry, 4th Inf. Div.) when Mt. St. Helen blew her cork in 1980. A few days after she erupted, even Colorado was covered with clouded skies that even blocked out the sun for days, and even received some of her ashes as well as the stench of sulfur!

OK. I seem to be at all the right places at the wrong time. I was also living in Idaho Falls in 1988 when Yellowstone National Park was on fire. The winds must have been moving from East to West, and Idaho Falls was covered with Yellowstone’s smoke and ashes. It was hard to breath and difficult see through the smoke. It lasted for at least a week. My brother DRL may also elaborate on this one. As he was there too!

RAC,Some very good friends of mine were attending college in Washington. After that Bob proposed to Lynn and were married shortly after. It was life altering for them. They're back there but,I've lost contact.I met them here and they're story was very scary. Here there is an island north of us that blows once in awhile. We're covered in that volcanic debris quite often.I believe it is Maug, but not exactly sure.
