GUAM gets stimulus funds for port, environmental cleanup

PACIFIC DAILY NEWS • NEWS@GUAMPDN.COM • APRIL 9, 2009

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded the Port Authority of Guam with $1.2 million for port security improvements.

The $1,223,644 is part of the $43.2 million the island has received so far as part of President (wear's zories) Obama's multibillion-dollar economic stimulus plan. The grant will help the port improve its current infrastructure to meet port security requirements associated with its increased utilization during the military buildup, according to Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo's office.

Additionally, the Government of Guam received $138,000 today for the assessment and potential clean up of underground storage tanks on Guam, Bordallo's office announced.

Under the stimulus plan Guam is eligible for more than $140 million in formula grants, in addition to $60 million in tax credits from the U.S. Treasury.

OINK,OINK,OINK. Anyone who follows guampdn knows that GovGuam is a bunch of retards and they NEED the Feds to take care of their buisness for them. They're to stupid to think their selves out of a wet paper bag. And then when the feds give them money with strings attached, they complain how "The man Is Keeping Them Down" as if they're being opressed.Sheesh.

Hey, You 2 are being weird. Guam has so many "purposes" in this region. Maybe you all didn't hear about the missile being shot out of North Korea?! Possibly 200 hundred miles shy of Guam. Maybe you're not as much as a priority for the "zorie wearing" President! So sad:(

While I am very concerned about North Korea's missle and nuke programs, it is still one thing to make a missle that has a range to make it to Guam. It is an entireley different thing to actually be able to hit a target the size of Guam over that distance.

We should have blown the damn thing out of the sky. Oh, wait, Our president in all his wisdom will cancel the missle defense program...

Yeah seems like the N. Koreans would have learned their lesson with what W. did the last time they missile launched.
Oh wait, he didn't do anything either.

As usual Joanna I have no idea what you're talking about. The post was about the Feds giving Guam a bunch of money that will be stolen by GovGuam. What does North Korea have to do with it? I was talking about GovGuam is so inept and corrupt that the feds had to come in and take over the landfill.Yea Guams important. As a strategic location for the US military. Why do you think they keep her as a possesion? You think the US gives a shit about Guam other than that? Hell no. And what does my spell check have to do with anything? Boy you sure are being petty. Are we going back to this again? Can't spell so must be stupid. I read the PDN every day religiously. I bet I read it more than you.I have family on Guam. My brothers buried on Guam. How dare you act as if I don't have a right to have an opinion about what goes on there. GovGuam IS corrupt.Always has been and always will be. Now I know your thinking, "Well so is the Fed". Yea so two wrongs don't make a right.Unless your saying the Chamorros are too stupid to have an original thought and they have no control over who they vote for. Whatever, I have a headache now. I can't believe I'm even responding to this.
