Get Ready Folks for the Dean's Circle Logo Selection

Our resident graphic artist Mark Jaquette is preparing three Dean Circle Logos for our gang to vote on for selection to represent our gang! Watch here for the introduction and voting process for this selection. After a selection is made, I (Juls) will be ordering T-shirts for all who want to darn themselves with DC Pride when we go to our reunion in Vegas Baby along with future events! Can't wait to see what they will look like? Then watch here, coming soon. . . . . .

VEGAS BABY, July 25,26,27 IT IS!!!

We still have some time, but it looks to me to be the Tropicana, July 25, 26 and 27 (2 nights).

Now I need to know if we will need 10 or more rooms. As this comes closer together, what extracaricular activities (RAC, make your own arrangments for the goats) we plan on. If we go to Hoover Dam, Primm, Lake Powell, or anything that requires transport. I will be driving down there, as so will others. Like juls said, we can walk or take trams between many of the Casino-Hotels. Fremont Street may be the exception.

My email address in with my profile, write any question you may have. Others, as you have seen, have been there as well. Find one of us for questions.

The Only Thing That Goes Up My Nose These Days

For any of you with sinus or allergy problems:
I have annoying allergies and every winter end up with at least one major sinus infection that has to be cleared up with antibiotics and steroids. This winter I’ve been using a neti pot and realized today that except for one cold, have stayed well for several months. My daughter calls it my nose watering can…using warm salt water you flush out your nasal passages with it (remember how easy it was to breath after spending the day in the ocean?) It’s an ancient Ayurvedic technique known as Jala neti, which literally means nasal cleansing in Sanskrit. It’s a little weird to use at first and sounds kind of gross but it really works.

VOTE FOR VEGAS

In an effort to solidify plans for the Vegas reunion, I propose the below listed dates. This is the last (and hottest) weekend in July. Please submit your vote in the comments section of this post.

Las Vegas Reunion
July 25, 26 and 27

Vegas Baby prices?

Okay, boys and girls. I have some early prices. I am a cheap skate, and am happy sleeping under the stars. But am willing to go along with the crowd on this. The most popular Hotel was the Mandalay Bay. I agree it is the most Island like, However the second is the Tropicana. There is a reservation service when 10 rooms or more are being used. I don't know if (with spouses (RAC's goats and midgets)) we will need that many. I also checked on the price of the Water O Show.

Price is per person w/4 people a room (max allowed), for both nights, two to a bed. This does not included tax or other possible charges. Double the price if you want the bed to your self. RAC, you quad the price if you are paying for the goats.

Mandalay Bay
Week days $95.00 + tax
Fri and Sat $147.00 + tax

Tropicana
Week days $40.00
July 25-26 $95.00
August 1-2 $67.00

Water O Show
Depending on seats $190.00 to $350.00 (ouch)
RAC, No goats allowed.

Let us thank Dave for his service to our Country!

Dave, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Many of us are veterans, and many more have family who have served or are serving. I am proud of my service, but I only served 5 years, you have dedicated the majority of your life to service. As a member of both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign wars I would like to welcome you (prematurly) to civilian life. Your service will not ever be forgoten.

Vegas Baby for sure!

Okay, I have heard from some of you, and the consensus seems to be August. With chidren and school, I have heard that the first week end is the best. It too seems that Mandalay Bay is the hotel of choice (for the beach pool). RAC and the other guys, it cost extra ($$$$$) to go to the toples pool. If we go on the weekend (friday and saturday nights) it will be about twice the cost. I left the prices at work, so I will update that on monday. I tried to get suites, but the maximum number is 6 no matter how large the room. It is cheaper to get the 2 bed, 4 person rooms. We can make plans on what to do later, but lets plan for this time and this hotel. Please let me know if anything needs changed and we will work together to make it work.

Where's Johnny B.????

Been a long time Johnny! Sure enjoy listening to your two CD.'s daily. But miss hearing from you on the blog. Can you make it to Vegas?

B-2 stealth bomber crashes on Guam

HAGATNA, Guam - A B-2 stealth bomber plunged to the ground shortly after taking off from an air base in Guam on Saturday, the first time one crashed, but both pilots ejected safely, Air Force officials said. full story

They call it snow, Ric

Hey Ric, glad to see you guys are finally getting some of this white stuff. I know it's been awhile for you New Yorkers so there are a couple of things to remember. First, don't eat the yellow snow. Second, don't eat the yellow snow. Enjoy!

Back to the circle

Here's an experimental thing. Blog spot breaks it if I try to upload it so I have to give you a link instead.

Yes We Can Video

Okay, I admit that I am an Obama fan, but even if you're not, you have to admit that this is a cool video.

Who is this?

Smoking Pot

One of the greatest gifts I received on Guam was being able to see people for who they are as opposed to the color of their skin. Unfortunately I wasn't given the same respect in junior high. Even still, the earlier lessons of racial harmony are what stuck and carried me thru life. That is until I moved to Utah.

According to the 2000 US census there are exactly 7 black people in the entire state of Utah; to date I have seen 4 of the 7. The problem is they haven't seen me. Unlike any other place I have lived, the blacks in Utah refuse to look me in the eye. My guess is they assume that since I'm a white guy with closely cropped hair I must be a neo-nazi-skin-head member of the Ku Klux Klan - a title I am completely uncomfortable with.

The irony is that culturally I am probably more "black" than all 7 of them combined. After living in a number of culturally diverse neighborhoods and having a large number of black friends and co-workers, I grew to accept much of the culture as my own. If you were to ask my red-headed 17 year old son what color his skin is he would probably tell you he was black.

And just what is the point of this post? I'm not really sure. I mostly liked the title and was looking for a way to put it into the blog. And what does smoking pot have to do with racial diversity? Well, instead of the melting pot I have become accustomed to living in, I now find myself in the middle of a smoking pot. Each individual ingredient remains just that, an individual. There is no melding of culture and ideas. Separateness seems to be the word of the day.

Maybe what this place needs is a big old bag of weed. I bet that would mend a few fences.

VIRUS ALERT

No, this isn't about the nasty little bug DRL is going to pick up in Vegas. This is about the Florida Super Flu Doug warned us about earlier. It seems this virus has found its way into Utah and I suspect it is being transmitted thru this blog. Therefore, I recommend all blog users wear gloves and use liberal amounts of disinfecting hand gel while working online.

If you are unfortunate enough to become infected you should know there is a sure fired cure available. The only problem is it must first be decoded. The cure I speak of is the old tried and true "starve a cold, feed a fever." Now I have no idea what that means but I'm convinced it is the secret remedy to any number of ailments - including bed head, foot fungus and tooth decay. Maybe one of our many health field experts can further elaborate of this medical miracle.

So there you are. Don't say you haven't been warned.

Lunar Eclipse

Sorry Paul, I don't have your technology yet. Sure wish I could send pictures of this! But a lunar eclipse is now happening (at least on the East Coast of the US of A). What a sight it is, if you are a science freak like me! Got to go back out side and what the elcipse!

Guam's, Little Waikiki

From Joanna, from the heart...in the living years.

Take care of and look out for your families, tell them you love them now, while you still have time.

First impressions...

Every time I disembarked here I felt like a wet mop. The new one is air conditioned all the way to the planes.

More for memory lane...

All right hot shots, where's this one?

Things to know abut Vegas Baby

Yes, it will be hot in August, but unless you want to "Walk the Strip" or go lay at the pool, 90% of the time we will be indoors (accept for DRL who will be riding his hog, sorry DLR). Many of the Casino's (Bally, Paris, Flamino, etc) are connected with a tram that commutes between them making a car unnecessary and an extra expense. Those that fly in can take a hotel shuttle or taxi to the hotel and save money that way.

I have rented a stretch limo before for 8 people for a three hour strip tour for less than $140 which was split between us making a night out on the town fun, first class but not expensive (you get VIP door service to clubs and shows with a limo, no cover charges or lines to wait in).

Although shows can be pricy, they do offer off season ticket prices (August is off season).

Sharing the expense of larger suite rooms comes out cheaper too, if you don't mind sharing a room with someone.

Vegas Baby!!!

Okay, get ready all you bikini clad ladies, and pot bellied old men. I will list in the coments the best hotels for our rendezvous (thats rondevue, for those who cant read). Some are expensive, so we need to choose by what we want and (I am not into expensive hotels) how much they cost.

What they don't tell you

For anyone thinking of visiting Utah you might want to check out this site first. It's an index of air quality throughout the nation. A quick glance will tell you the Salt Lake area currently has the worst air in the country… and it ain't lying. The smog here is so think you can't see the mountains, let alone breath. Might be a good time to visit Guam instead.

El Politico

While we're on the subject of politics, does anyone else see the irony of John McCain as the Republican presidential candidate? I believe it was only 4 short years ago that he seriously entertained the idea of running as John Kerry's VP on the Democratic ticket.

See what happens when you take too many of the blue pills? The world can turn upside-down in the blink of an eye.

Russel

Hey where is Russell Clayshult???

Hi Pat

Pat, I hope all is good. Say Hi.

Clip of the day...

Remember how the B-52's used to fly over on the way back to Anderson even after they said they weren't flying to Vietnam and Cambodia anymore?

Now we have new planes in the skies. The other day I was down at the beach when three of these flew over. They are amazing to watch, like out of a science fiction movie or something.

Boys Dont get in trouble!

Valentines Day! Warning...Warning...Warning!

OK guys, it's the 'V' day eve. Get it done! Flowers, teddy bears...what ever it takes! Sleeping on the couch sucks!

anyone remember?

We had the album, Nielson smeilson or something like that. For some reason, that song has always been my brain worm, stuck in my head, weather Im happy or sad. I think it's just called coconut. "put the lime in the coconut, drink it all up..put the lime in the coconut, call the doctor, wake him up, say doctor!, i got such a belly ache..i say Doctor, to remove this belly ache...you get it right?

Base 18

Who remembers 'Base 18'? Those of you that rode off road motor cycles might remember this place.

Anyone remember Dracula's Bathroom?

At the end of the circle down the path towords the open field just past the Eldridges house #1 was a water pump house, does anyone remember playing there??

PICKLED PAPAYA RECIPE

*******************************************************************
MmmMMmmm good! This was a
favorite in our family and it was so easy, the kids (my sister & i)
could make it too! We put good use to the green papaya
population i our back yard. It depends how much pickled
papaya you want to make but...you start with:

- 1,2 or 3 big green (not ripe yet inside) PAPAYA.
- lots of VINEGAR (to fill, maybe half, a gallon jar,
a glass one works best!).
- 6-10 'boonie' peppers....or if you're in the states,
jalepenos work ok, but it's not going to be primo!

Slice the papaya in half, scoop out the seeds,
throw the seeds in the boonies so you can have
more papaya trees; come back in the kitchen, slice
the papaya into very thin slices, put them into your
glass gallon jar of vinegar and sliced boonie peppers
(don't rub your eyes after all this, you'll get 'pink-eye' dude),
put the lid on the jar and shake & mix; let it sit for 3-5 'adai's'.
After you think it's done - open the jar and eat it!

Be sure to share gachong! Enjoy!
And also be sure to tell them
Senator Mark Jaquette
from Alupang Island
recommends this!

Pic of the week

Just got back on the blog i see i have alot to catch up on Paul would like to add my thanks for the pic of the week seams none of us can get enough of pic of guam old and new. I have a few to add to pic of week

Just how old are you?

If you happened to wake up this morning feeling older than your driver's license says you are they may be a reason for it. Check out the Life Expectancy Calculator to see which unhealthy lifestyle might be dragging you down. I'm sure there's not a lot of validity to this thing but it is fun the run thru its paces.

Caraway's Piercing Parlor

When Becki came to visit me last fall we were out shopping and she was looking at some earrings and reminded me that my dad was the one who had pierced her ears...in our kitchen with an ice cube, sewing needle, and a potato. I remembered that he became very skilled at it as he ended up piercing the ears of several other girls in the neighborhood.

Island Nostalgia....

Democratic Primary Race

THIS IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT!

I have been watching the Democratic primary race tonight. The Democractic Delegate count is getting very tight. I am not a Democrat, but I do know whom I do not want to win the Democratic Primary. This is almost better to watch than a good football game!

Las Vegas..Possible dates?

Those that have great ambitions to attend a Dean's Circle reunion in Vegas for the Fall of '08, I think we should start with throwing around possible dates.

The Dean's Circle Gang...Bound for Vegas...

Notice DRL on his Harley, headed for Las Vegas.

What the hell is this thing?

Vegas Baby

There's been an awful lot of empty talk about reunions and such on this blog and I for one am tired of it. I say it's time we get off our asses and start putting this thing together. Of course the first order of business is to find a suitable location. After serious contemplation I came up with the following: Vegas Baby! IMO Las Vegas makes perfect sense because:

  1. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas

  2. It's within driving distance... for me! lol

  3. There's something for everyone

  4. Hookers and gambling

  5. Plenty of hotels

  6. Airfare specials galore

  7. It's half way between Guam and Cairo (the long way around)

  8. They don't call it Sin City for nothing

There you have it. If someone has a better idea then toss it out here. I would suggest we schedule it for the fall in order to give everyone plenty of time to plan ahead. What do you guys think? Can we make this happen?

This one's for you Doug

And now a message from the History Channel

Guam time?

Not that being on tie has ever meant much on Guam but did anyone notice that the clock on the bottom of the page is an hour early?

I can't decide if the blog page should be a half hour late or if I should feel at home because I'm only an hour late.

Anybody here watch "LOST"?

I guess I don't read books because I watch too much TV, but Lost is my fav show. Anyone watching with me?

Survivor: Micronesia - Fans vs. Favorites

I'm surfing the channels tonight looking for something to numb my mind and what do I find? A brand new episode of Survivor. Wait, it gets better. As I scan the description, I see this season is taking place in none other than Palau, Micronesia. Damn, it's my lucky day.

Guitar Man (1972) Cruz Store

A bottle of Pepsi for a quarter, a losers game of pool, some pinball and a hot dog followed by a Kool.

This one's for you Amy....

I know Doug, I suck.

Happy New Year

This site is going to get me into trouble at work. . .

Ever since I was invited to visit the Dean Circle Blog, I have been surfing it at work all day. I even set up my laptop next to my desktop with the screen facing away from the door so I can have the site handy but safely out of the view of my co-workers. It has been so exciting having everyone jog my memory of days so long ago! I love you all, thanks for this place!

Name that Tropical Disease

Stop, Drop and Roll

Remember the Hiroshima drills we were forced to endure as kids? You know, the ones where they made us get under our desk and put our head between our knees. Supposedly this was going to protect us in the event of a nuclear blast. Yeah right. All it really did was create a generation of kids living in fear. I grew up just knowing the World was going to end tomorrow. I wonder if that's what made us so adventurous and carefree? What's the point in being good when you're about to die anyway?

So the question is do the kids today feel the same way we did back then? Or have we inundated them with so much horror that they've become immune to it? Be interesting to find out. Maybe I should ask my own kids.

Love Thy Teacher

At some point I'm sure we all had a youthful crush on one of our teachers. For me it was 5th grade Mangilao Elementary's Mrs. Cruz (I think that was her name). She was young, beautiful and just about the coolest teacher ever. Our lessons ranged from studying music lyrics to creating silk screen T-shirts. She probably at one point considered making pot cultivation part of the curriculum too. For field trips she would take the whole class camping. Too bad it wasn't yet en vogue for female teachers to seduce their students. That would have been sweet!

Who was you're secret forbidden love? Come on, you can tell us. Your secret's safe here.

Marriage: It's Only Going to Get Worse

There's a new study out showing couples find each other more irritating and demanding the longer they're together. What's funny is those stupid scientist could have saved themselves a whole bunch of time and money. All they had to do was ask and I would have been more than happy to hand over my own research into this subject. I'm pretty sure my 2.5 sets of divorce papers would have told them all they needed to know.

What Happened to Global Warming?

As I sit here buried under snow for the third month in a row, a noticeable absence of global warming talk permeates the air. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about the environment and man's negative impact on it. I just believe there are those who, for reasons unknown, want to fill us with fear about things we cannot control. Remember bird flu, terrorism and WMD? As for hyping global warming during the worst winter in ages... good luck with that.
