i still have scars from the coral! i also remember when julia's brother ben bast, came thru the circle,
heading home all red and stung because a wave of

When I was taking this picture a group of 5 young locals with boogie boards came though.

After this we went to the Sharatin Hotel (was Palace hotel that sits a the top of the trail to Ricks Reef) to watch a bit of a surf contest.

Nice picture Paul:) That's all...

Actually that wave was almost the best time for jumping, did anyone ever freeze climbing over the edge...I did, they talked me thru it and then I jumped or if the water looked too shallow,I'd jump off the left side into a swell.I love that little cave,I need to go down, plenty fish when I went snorkeling the last time:)

Oh home sweet home! The times spent at the Rock. I remember when hardly any locals went down there only a few fisherman and occasional strays. I think Alice and I spent most of Junior H.S. down there during the weekdays.

By the way Paul these pictures are great that you keep posting, reminds me that there are better people and places in the world.

I was too chicken to even try to jump! But my sisters loved it. I would swim in the intake channel instead.

I just want to jump in and soak it all up. No other piece of Guam is so embedded into my memory, as that rock. If ever we do all return to Guam, lets go during the time of year when Pago Bay is on the Leeward side of the island, so we can scour the cliffs and reunite on top of the rock. Thanks Paul, very well done.

But it looks so small from here.

Did you take a jump Paul? You know, for old times sake.

not today, but maybe some time soon. My son want's to try surfing and I can't think of a better way to get in tune with the waves and the sharp parts then lolling around the rock.

The rock, wow. Remember stretching over to the rock just to climb on. then the jump (ether side). Thank you.
The only local I knew, I cant remember his name, but when the man-of-war jelly fish came threw, he warned us about them. He picked one up and smashed it in his hand. So I tried, I must have done it wrong....IT HURT!!!

Paul, I just looked back at the pic. What is the fence?

Thats the best pic of the rock on the blog yet. I was there in 2/88' didn,t go jump. The surf was too high to get over there, then again that never stopped us back then.
It looks smaller to me now.
Thanks Paul, keep them coming.

The fence to keep vagrants like us away from the pumps :-)

Did it slowly rock back and forth in big surf, either I was so scared or it really did shift slowly?

Well that right there is my most favorite rock in the whole wide world. And yes, we jumped. Plenty. And it did sway in big swells.
Excellent shot Paul.

Thanks Doug,it was pure fear but, I do remember it rockin with big swells.Man, we are lucky to be alive...that was our backyard hangout. Not many kids would make the struggle at times. Sam and Mat were totally wiped off,Sam that is, while trying to fish.Mat saved his life,he remembers in detail.Talks about it a lot. I hope he logs on...come on Sam!!!

I think most of us had at least one close scrape down at Pago. Not the place to be for weak swimmers.

So true Doug.

Juliet, that's where you gals were hiding,in that little cave. Reminder for me.I was too small to skip school and follow you two. My Mom insisted for me to get to school.Relentless...

Paul, thanks again for the rock and circle Video. It is so cool that I can share my neighborhood and childhood hangouts with my kids. I tell the stories, but to see it, and show them is too cool.
My daughter cant believe our parents used to let us "play" down there. I told her I wouldn't let my kids play there, too many close calls.
Rock on!

Paul i agree thanks for your time we all seam to be enjoying a trip back in time with your pictures.
The Rock there are so many good memorys. Lets come clean who were the original skinny dipers. No names but i do rember girls from 12 to 16 those that would sneak to the store to smoke kools and some that don't even have computers. The guys i was one of the older ones who enjoyed talking the younger ones into skinny jumping while they jumped with a hand full of ---- i would throw there trunks on the other side of the rock to see which would hit water first still lol about that one come on guys some of you fell for it.
