Survivor: Micronesia - Fans vs. Favorites

I'm surfing the channels tonight looking for something to numb my mind and what do I find? A brand new episode of Survivor. Wait, it gets better. As I scan the description, I see this season is taking place in none other than Palau, Micronesia. Damn, it's my lucky day.

My brother Dave and I spent a week on Palau at Air Micronesias expense. the plane that was to take us back to Guam broke down and the replacement they sent could only take my mom who had to get back to work.
That was one of the best weeks of my life. I remember that there was a store in town called the Kool store. It sold nothing but Kool cigarettes, by the pack, carton or case. The rock islands are one of the most beautiful places on earth.

During our days in Dededo we had a Trust Territory student named Pelican George live with us while he was going to UOG. I'm pretty sure he was from Palau; correct me if I'm wrong sisters. He was one cool cat for sure. I think he eventually became President of Micronesia or some such thing.

I have had to pick and choose my reality shows, and limit them to just a couple this year. Survivor will be one to keep on the schedule. I always watch, and think to myself, "those stupid statesiders don't know what they are doing" all us from the Dean Circle gang can kick your butt...

Really, starve in Palau, I don't think so I would leave that show fatter than I am. I had a great time there too, breadfruit, nuts, fruit, fish and crabs.

RAC, You're right about Pelican George. That guy could climb a coconut tree so fast. We went to a few great parties that he and his friends had..that's when I first tried breadfruit. When we took him to the states for a vacation with us, Mom had a heck of a time finding shoes to fit him..he had never worn any in his life and his feet were super wide. There's some slides of him with us in the States but my boss borrowed my slide scanner or I'd post a pic.

Wow, I so don't remember Pelican going to the States with us; I must have really been young. The people in Hayward Wisconson are probably still talking about the time a "black" man came into town.

I had some great visits to Palau while stationed in Hawaii. Beautiful scenery and diving, friendly people as long as you don't make them mad. Great rock throwers, with deadly accuracy. I have a half dozen story boards that were carved by Palauans, 3 of them from prisoners at the county jail.

I have great memories of Pelican George. he was nothing but sweet and generous to all of us. I think he broke up alot of kiddie fights..lol. I know he helped mom out alot with us. Not that she needed it or anything. ha ha. Yea Robert, we were pretty young when we took him to hayward, but I remember our uncles treating him really cool. Hey, they had beer in common.

It's nice to read about interpersonal relations with the outer Micronesians. Sometimes I bump into prejudice here but, I was raised by Hermana Ramrui when I was a baby and Lincoln Orrukem later on around 7 or 8. We have a pic somewhere of Link in front of the Larson's with the aligned pine trees:)Ric,Dave,Steve,Desi,Sean...

Pat, I remember that the uncles took Pelican out to a local tavern on night and he got hit on by a gay guy. That really freaked him out because he had never experienced that before. I remember the family trying to calm him down about it...lol
