Caraway's Piercing Parlor

When Becki came to visit me last fall we were out shopping and she was looking at some earrings and reminded me that my dad was the one who had pierced her ears...in our kitchen with an ice cube, sewing needle, and a potato. I remembered that he became very skilled at it as he ended up piercing the ears of several other girls in the neighborhood.

Cindy, you girls had guts because when my ears were pierced, it was like a little gun with gold that went in so quick. To this day I can't wear ear rings without my earlobes puffing up...genetics I guess,my Mom has the same problem:) You were brave though.Did Alice's get pierced like that also?

It's a good thing Dad isn't in business now. With the parts girls are getting pierced today, Mom would have been pissed.

I remember the needle and potato days. My father would never allow me to pierce my ears until I was eighteen and then when I was I didn't care about it. In those days you could still get clip-ons. I never did pierce them and rarely wear earings.

man i sure couldnt do it but i think my sisters did. also when nancys in-laws visited from guam they tried the ice trick and peircing my daughters ears barely managed to get one it was way too much for me lol she was just a baby thats how they did it on guam though that way you can tell if it was a girl or boy baby or just plain tradition . we waited until she 10 after that and in a shop.

I remember Mom piercing mine, but with a wine cork and a needle. I felt so pretty with my little gold post earrings.
I've never Not worn earrings since that day. I can't wear posts anymore though. have to be hoops and I'd feel naked without them.
Cindy makes really pretty jewlery with beads.

Pat you did wear your earings well. The long dangle earing of the 70's were great and some nice leather necklaces with a peace sign. Very cool. How about making Tie-dye shirts back in the day. Anyone remember how?

This almost looks like a chick blog sight. But about 20 years ago while I was still in college, I went to visit my brother Sean while he was working in New York City. I wanted an ear ring. I drank alot of something, enough to allow my brother to place a potato behind my left ear with an ice cube. With in minutes I had an ear ring. I had it in my ear until just about a few years ago, until mustaches and ear-rings went out of style for guys.

Soon after I got that pierced earring, I had to attend the U.S. Army Infantry Officers Basic Course (IOBC). I was able to conceal the pierced earring hole in my ear. Never got caught wearing it off duty for years while on active duty as an Officer.
