Fiesta Food in Vegas Baby!

It has been suggested and mentioned that there is one one VIP Private Suite at the Tropicana that has a full kitchen available for cooking our fiesta. Over all, I believe this would serve many purposes for our DC Reunion since it will be large enough for gathering up to 20+ people:

1) Give us a place to cook authentic Guamanian dishes we all love and miss in the air conditioning.

2) Common meet and greet area for receiving t-shirts upon arrival at Vegas.

3) Central location for planning, hanging out and socializing.

4) A refrigerator for food and beverages (saving money on eating out and buying drinks)

5) A place to escape if your roommate or goats get tired of you.

This will cost approximately $500 extra, but in the long run cheaper than a meeting room plus the expense of a dinner out for all or a catered meal. I can offer to take it and loose any privacy that would go along with everyone meeting there, coming and going etc. WDYT???

juls, that sounds like what we have been wanting. If the gang goes for it, I can contact the people I set up the block and get it set up for us.

Juls, I think this is the best idea yet and would be willing to chip in to help pay for this room.

Sounds like a good location for a toga party. So...what are we talking here? I mean, apiece. Any idea? By the by how's the JoAnna thing coming along? Okay I'll stop with the ???

Hey juls, we have the "help" fund to get people to the. Lets get one going for this.

Doug, I have $300 dollars for the "help joanna fund", now known as the "help" as in help whoever we can fund. Sounds like Joanna will make it regardless. When I find out who needs it, we will know. I know Amy and Desi could use help too. Now the "Suite" fund is on.

JULS, you got my vote on this!

Help fund I think is for anyone that needs help financially to come to Vegas. This would be a new fund for those commited to being there. Well worth the money that would end up being spent else where with far less benifits for us all.

Sounds good to me, as long as Matt can still light a fire somewhere.

Matt, do you have any INDOOR ideas for a fire, like the the George Forman INDOOR Grill (that I have seen at my local Wally World?) (Walmart for those that are not cheap challanged?) Could THAT Work??????????

Hi all,
back for a couple of days...man it takes research to keep up with the BLOGS I miss when I don't check in.

Off to Oregon and Washington next week...

BTW, I will help pay for the party room. P.s. girlfriend can cook, I am famous for my chicken kelaguen...we have barbeques every month at my house so I know how to put it all together.

sorry, I think I didn't respond to some room-mate requests..apologies..

not sure if my husband is coming or not so will pass on taking on a room mate until I figure that part out.
most likely coming on my own, unless I can get my sister to come.

DRL if you want to contact me at kelley.meno@sephora.com
this would be great and you can tell me what you need. I'm clearly not a fantastic personal email communicator.

looking forward to seeing everyone..cheers! kelley

one more thing...if we get this party room, does it have a place on balcony to barbeque? and do one of you white boys know how to barbeque?

I need someone to barbeque chicken for me if I'm going to make kelaguen!

So, I will volunteer to menu plan and cook for this shindig...will need able bodied sous chefs...and shoppers and choppers...
me again,
Kelley

I'm all for it. I think it's a great idea to have a community party place and Juls what a sacrifice you will be making for us all...to stay in the suite during off hours. I'll be more than happy to chip in...where do I send my check?

rac said...

Excellent idea. Does it come with a hot tub?

I'm worried that after hearing all the stories about what these boys were doing in the days in Dean's Circle (brandings, explosions, etc) some of them are still so interested in making sure that we have a FIRE someplace.

Should the attire be "island wear" for the party?

A suite is ok, I don't know if it
has a patio. I have every kind of portable cooking appliance known to man.Kelly, not only can I barbecue,I can also make a mean potato salad and shrimp kelaguen.
I even have a coconut grater so I can sit down and grate away. We are famous in our neiborhood for july 4th parties.I will call DRL
and the hotel and see what we can get done.

Joanna said...

Cindy, why not? Coconut shells and grass skirts;)They'd really trip out on us island folk.Doug and Dave, you both are so funny, everyone that is:)It will be a cook out to remember for many more moons...

We should drink Schlitz in honor of the good old days. Remember when you could get Schlitz in the can for $.25. Oh wait that's right I wasn't old enough to drink.
Not to be a buzzkill or anything but where are we supposed to find all this stuff in Vegas? And who's bringing the pickled papaya?

mat said...

Doug and anyone else,
Once everyone decides what we should have on the menu I will buy the stuff here. We have plenty oriental and mexican stores and theree is no shortage of island ingrediants. Schlitz? I don't know,
Bud is the official beer of Guam.
My dad drank Oly. Equally repulsive
but I had no problem smuggling a six pack out once in a while.Start posting what we want to eat and I will work on where to cook.

DRL said...

Matt, Call me, I emailed you my numbers.

Doug said...

Oh i agree that you could drink Bud and just about piss Schlitz but it was by far the beer of choice of the UOG "students" that would wile away the hours outside Cruz store. That store may or may not be there anymore but I'd bet there's a sizable aluminum depository out there in the boonies.
I honestly don't even know if they make Schlitz anymore.

DRL said...

Paul, for POTW, Cruz store. The juke box, oh yea.

Paul said...

drl, Its not there anymore and I haven't figured out quite where it was. Maybe I'll have to close my eyes and count the steps from the circle or something.

Ric Larson said...

Bring only the good beer, such as schlitz, Bud, Oly, or Hamms, but do not bring the bad stuff such as...(foreign or domestic brews) like Becks or Sam Adams. ;) I know, I know Sean, your going to tell me that I will be drinking alone again! (Inside joke that i'll tell later).

I will eat any Guam food, even bat brains or wings (do they still eat that stuff in Guam)?

Just lets have a place that Mat can have a bonfire to make the food. Something about man and fire (we love it)! It's the 'man, meat & fire syndrome' that we whom drag our knuckles when we walk, suffer... love!

Joanna said...

Mat and Benita, let me know what I could bring especially if you can't find it there.Like achote or something from Guam? As long as they'll let it thru customs,I can bring it:)

Rod said...

If there is going to be fire, I'm in..Can we also import a few coconut trees, to climb, and a rock to jump off?
Maybe just 1 Oly' for toasting, my taste pallet only get the best now.
Good beer, good booze, and ANYTHING GUAMAINIAN!! (SP?)I'l kick in for the suite, there or not.. But its looking good!

Ric Larson said...

OK Rod'man, sounds like Mat, you and me will be doing the '12 oz. curls' ;)

Joanna said...

No you guys are going to burn the marinated meat and slam beers...like Mat said:)
