Remembering Emi

Yesterday was the 5th anniversary of my sister Emi's death from malignant breast cancer. She was almost 40 when she died. She was co-valedictorian at GWSHS Class of 1981, greaduated from Mount Holyoke College, and was a MacArthur Fellow at the University of Edinburg (Scotland). She did post-doctoral work at the Mayo Clinic and at Scripps Institute (San Diego, CA). She was an amazing woman...and would have enjoyed getting reacquainted with all of you.

Sarah, I am so sorry. It is hard to loose a sibling. I know. I was in the class of 1981, as are many on the DC blog. I graduated early so I didn't go to comencment or the prom.
Back to your sister. I am so sorry for your loss, and this is even the more reason that you need to leave the great state of Alaska to come see us in July.

Oh, I still have one of your dad's books at home.

Emi certainly didn't waste her time while she was with us. It sounds as though she lived a very full and exciting life. I think I would have enjoyed getting reacquainted with her as well.

Sarah, I played with Emi. I liked Emi a lot. She was a very sweet girl. I remember your family well too. I didn't know she had passed away and I am so sorry for your loss. Give my love you yourself and family.

Sarah, that was beautifull of you to post her picture! She's still alive in a lot of our memories, Emi will be missed.

Emma was really amazing she seems to have done more in her short life than most people could ever do. Sara what was her field of study? I remember playing in the jungle clearing behind your house when we were all little girls, intensively practicing our homemaker skills, there must have been more going on in her mind than the leaf stew we were cooking up.

I remember the HUGE Barbie doll house your family had!! Oh how I envied you girls. When my own girls were old enough, I made them a big Barbie doll house for them. I am almost sure I played with it more than they did, all because of the one you Eldredge girls had!

I remember Emi as just another little kid back then...who turned out to be far better educated and more brilliant than I'll ever be.

Sarah, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I remember your sister--she had beautiful hair and beautiful freckles. The hospital I work for may become a place for clinical trials for a possible exciting cancer treatment developed by a Sanibel Island man using nanoparticles and radio waves. Here is an article.
